A renowned, Old Family known throughout the Regalian Empire, House Howlester found its origins under its Old Ceardian name 'Kohen' and expanded their notoriety through their successful mining and forging business 'The Howling Forges' which are dotted across the archipelago, Gallovia, Daenshore and the Regalian Colonies. The family has existed for nearly three centuries, heralding its power from Old Ceardia as a warring clan before transitioning into the archipelago and Gallovia in the last 200 years and assuming control of the Gallovian Principality as the country's Royal Family. The House is no stranger to the power plays of the Regalian Peerage having participated alongside the likes of Typhonus, Kade, Fong and Anahera but with a firm Pro-Conservative/Jingoistic ideology, but have recently taken a more lax, Pro-Judicial Standard political stance. The family prides itself on its patriarchal structure and military background which has been apparent from the House's participation in all major wars in the last century and a half. The Howlester family is currently headed by Rodderick Howlester, the eldest son of William Howlester from the current mainline branch of Howlesters.
Despite the House ruling lands far in the Highlands, the family holds significant sway in the Crown Isle itself. Its influence can be seen within previous organisations in which members have held significant positions, such as the Regalian Guard, the Regalian Judiciary, the Regalian Military as well within the Emperor's inner circle. Despite this, the family holds no qualms with consorting with the common folk, much akin to most Dunbrae Highland Ceardian families. Many of the Prince's immediate family, such as his distant cousin Genevieve and sister Lyall Howlester are known for working with Alms Charities and the Violet Order from time to time, respectively -- and Genevieve, his deceased wife Katriane and Aunt Roselyne are well known for hosting events aimed toward all citizens of the Crown Isle, not just the peerage.
The Howlesters pride themselves on their centuries old roots and Dunbrae Highland Ceardian culture. As a result, most, if not all of the Howlester women tend to dress either in lax Imperial fashion or true to form Highland Ceardian garb. Much of the family's wardrobes consist of expensive silks, tailored Kiltach and Vielts as well as lavish dresses of Ravenstad and Ithanian origin. Greens and browns are encouraged for the family to wear as per Gallovian traditions, but most of the family opt to wear highly expensive purple and black clothing to propel the House colours proudly. Jewelry is commonplace as well and isn't exclusive to Howlester women. Both the male and female members of the House sport regal gemstones, gold bands and earrings on their bodies -- all Howling Steel forged of course, if not Southern (Vixhall and Vultarin primarily) in origin, with Torlds and circlets being very abundantly shown off amidst the various social soirees the family is invited to.
Like most Older Noble families, House Howlester has a vast array of wealth that has been built up over the generations. While owed largely in part to feudal taxation on the Highlands that the family rules, the significant majority of the Howlester family wealth has accrued from their mining and metallurgy business as well as their monopoly on Gunpowder and Artillery that the Regalian Military utilises.
A typical keep in the rural areas of Galloway
From noble roots in the heart of Old Ceardia, the first mention of the Howlester surname outside of the family's fabled 'Compendium' was around 156AC when the family rose from it's humble smithing and mining operations to owners of a small fiefdom of land in the Northern reaches of Ceardia. The Howlester family reigned over this land for seventy years before branching out their influence abroad to Ithania and the archipelago before the collapse of the mainland; spreading their business practices further afield as well as their ideals.
Before that however, the House of Howlester began as simple smiths and carpenters that made a proportionate reputation for the family by serving upper class families across the Northern reaches of Ceardia. While formerly Old God's at this time; as most were in Ceardia, the family became rather hardline military and traditional from the strict barbarian like culture they grew up around. The patriarchs of that time were very hardline in the writings of the Howlester Compendium; the book in which the House Howlester are told to follow to preserve unity and sanctity amongst their ranks. The family adopted Unionist beliefs to succeed the heretical teachings of the Old God's after converting under the patriarch Aelred Howlester in 97AC with the rising influence of Unionism beginning to wipe out the Old God's Worship across the Realm. After the death of a prominent Baron in an area north of the Ceardian mainland, the Howlester family seized control of the area by force and named themselves the new legal owners by right of an honor duel with another claimant. The Howlester was victorious and thus ruled the Barony for a good eighty or so years until their interests brought them to the Highlands of the Regalian Empire.
The next two generations of Howlesters's prospered, vying what was left of their support to gain a place in Le Pays. With the support of the working class families of Val Croix and some off the books dealings with the lower noble families, the Howlesters secured the Margrave of Cannsmere, part of the Lordship of Galloway in Gallovia. Willard, like this father Algar before him, maintained this land fervently until the Gallowegian Mining Crisis of 291AC. Workers of the Howlesters mines complained about unjust treatment from their overlord, refusing to co-operate with the House Howlesters until they were treated properly. Willard responded with vague threats and caused the miners to blow up the Gallowegian iron mines in protest. Thankfully, Willard's eldest son Wilvahelm or, William in common, managed to sway his father into abdicating his position so that William could quell the turmoil. It worked effectively. Willard abdicated his position within the family under pressure of the family elders, leaving William as heir to the title Margrave complete with its own lands and honors.
William maintained the majority of his father's political views though with a more calm and cautious approach. The now heir was forced to return to the capital of the Empire to seek political support and alliances amongst the peerage. These political visits spanned months over the years between 292 and 298AC and with years of toil doing so, he managed to gain a plethora of different contacts and alliances which ultimately pushed the family further into prominence. The family endeavored for a more appropriate political position, William by then having the majority support of the Jingoist lobby behind him. He used this new found prestige and respect to gather support to become a Councilman within the State Council. William won, raising the family from a mere Margrave family to High Lords of Galloway. The Howlester's, after their decisive victory, played major roles in many of the recent wars, notably playing a crucial part against Andrieu Anahera during the Protectorate Regime. They've also been known to tighten their alliances with other High Noble Houses, such as House Wodenstaff, Harhold and Ravenstad. While the titles have fluctuated along with the times, the family remains headstrong within the capital with many holdings business wise and politically as well as backed support from many of the aristocratic and lower noble families making House Howlester a true force to be rivalled with.

House Howlester Males
The males tend not to differ too drastically in appearance. The mainline of House Howlester still retain a pure Ceardian heritage making their appearance quite gruff and almost Northern like. They tend to have semi large protruding noses that harmonise with their gaunt cheekbones and strong chins with very firm and apparent brows that assist in emphasising the blue of their irises. It has been some time since there has been a black haired Howlester boy in the mainline but it isn't uncommon amongst their bloodline. Those born in the more colonial areas of the Realm may have a tattoo or two but these are often hidden due to the taboo nature of tattoos within peerage circles. Given that the boys are often thrust into a military education of some sort, the Howlester males tend to be well built with decent muscle mass and poise. The mainline of Howlesters all have Ceardian accents and subsequently Ceardian cultured movements and habits while for example, Edmure or Randulf who were raised and lived in Merginvague for the majority of their lives might be slightly more inclined to act more elegant and Ithanian than the mainline counterparts. That said, the Howlester males are always insisted to uphold their Ceardian ancestry and so Ithanian culture in the family is usually heavily frowned upon by other members of the family.
House Howlester Females
Much akin to their male counterparts, the Howlester women also share the trait that either leaves them with dark brown hair or raven black. More often than not however their hair colour tends to be dark brown over its black alternative. Howlester women also retain their blue colours irises with differing shades and their cheekbones are gaunt like their brothers and fathers but have a smaller but still powerful nose. The Howlester women wear quite modest clothing, covering most of their skin but poise themselves properly like members of Le Pays Royale D'Ithanie yet keep their Ceardian accents and their overall cultural standing, making them far differing than your average lady in waiting. Most Howlester women become Ladies of the Court, pick up an education in scholarly pursuits or, in extreme cases manage to convince their patriarch to allow them to pursue a career in the Regalian Army. Some tend to be more muscular in appearance as many train alongside their brothers in their younger years to build more lasting bonds as the family is quite tight knit.
