I stumbled upon a list of somewhat funny writing prompts recently (on Pinterest) that are supposed to annoy or anger your character. Seeing how much people enjoy character studies and the like I figured I would share a few of these for a different sort of character exercise. These are only supposed to be short, maybe a paragraph or two but certainly nothing ridiculously time-consuming. Simply writing how your character would respond/react to the following situations is plenty. Here's three;
  • 1st: Someone interrupting them repeatedly.
  • 2nd: Someone defacing their property of some sort.
  • 3rd: Someone eating food off of their plate without asking.

Vaellsyn Elenajil

1st: Vaellsyn being a person who loves to talk would grow immensely irritated with someone continuing to speak over him. This Altalar loves being the center of attention and if that were to be taken from him, his normal amiable nature would shift likely to annoyance at first before he found himself angry with the person. However, being one who normally likes to avoid physical conflict would likely attack them with clever insults and slights to cause the rest of the crowd to dislike said person. On the off chance, he doesn't succeed he would probably remove himself from the situation and seek out a new group in which he could speak ill of the person who interrupted him.

2nd: Being a merchant by trade, defacing Vael's property would bring out a nasty side not many experience. As protective as he is over his personal items, including his stock, defacing his property may send him over the edge and bring him to violence, though likely using others to do his work for him and only stepping in once he held the advantage. This would stick with the Elf for a long while and become a long lasting grudge.

3rd: As Vaellsyn is quite amiable but also greedy he would likely snap at someone attempting to steal his food, but go no further. He would attempt to shoo them away and assuming they don't would once again try to outwit them with his silver tongue or get someone else to rid the crook of his presence. This would merely tick him off but now ruin his day.

Darcie Miramonte:
1.)
A look of irritation would appear upon her features and she would glare down the person before firmly asking them to please, please be quiet. Most likely with a few added insults in one of her native tongues.
2.) Cold anger would seep through her veins as she stared at her ruined property. Darcie would certainly hunt down whomever did this and make them pay, whether it be monetarily or being firmly shaken by herself or her bodyguard.
3.) Depending upon who it is, Darcie would most likely threaten them with a fork. Unless it was her sister, then she would earn a firm stomp upon her foot beneath the table and a look of irritation.

Azeglio Valetta
1st: Being a bard, if someone interrupted Azelgio a bunch, he would easily get pissed. Music is something you listen to, not interrupt with cynical comments. Being a pretty good poet himself, he would most likely thrash out at the person interrupting him by making a small ballad about them being an A**hole or something of the sort. Whether they are noble or not.

2nd: It matters on the property, as he owns two. if someone defaced his personal home, he wouldnt care, it is so close to the slums it is his fault. But if someone defaces his H.Q. in the Ithanian district, oh boy will he be pissed. He will send every one of his slum mates after this man or woman until they find the person and torture them for hours until they die. Quite cruel to be honest.

3rd: If someone tried to steal his food, he would just like 1st, make some cynical or rude ballad about them until they are red in the face. He is greedy, and he would NOT LET YOU steal from him. Not at all...

1. Ayda, being a naturally crabby person, would at first either interrupt them right back in a snappy manner or talk over them in a louder voice. If it continues, then she will go full grouch and start insulting them and generally being grumpy. If the problem persists, then she will start yelling and tell them to bug off to some horrible place (Usually a dark cave or the void.)

2. Ayda would be pretty pissed off if someone vandalised her things. She sees her property as her territory and anything in it, especially the stuff from the hordelands, as valuable. They are all things she worked hard to get, so any unwanted grafiti or damage will be met with anger from the Avant. She sees any of the above as an invasion of her territory and a declaration of war, so to speak. Ayda will go on a mini war path, but at most she will be extremely grumpy for a few days and maybe beat up the perpetrator if she figures out who it is.

3. Ayda would not take kindly to someone trying to snatch her food. She will poke at the offending limb with whatever utensil she has in hand, or smack it away if no utensil is present. If it continues, she will try to cover her food with her body to ward off any future attempts. The Avant will also grumpily tell the person to knock it off and bug off.

1. At first, Theo would just let them talk over her. Once they were done, she would ask them to apologize and not do it again. If they do in fact continue, then she will get up and move away either on her own or with whoever agrees to go with her, along as they are not the interruptor. If the person follows her, then Theo will demand in an irritated manner that they leave her alone, or at least stop speaking over her.

2. It really depends on what they vandalise. If it is something easily replaceable or not that improtaint to her, then Theo will try to repair or replace it. If it is something more valuable though, then Theo will be pissed off. She will not suck it up and deal with it like she would with easily replaceable things, but instead the normally reserved Altalar will make her displeasure very well known. She may even go out of her way and try to hunt down the perpetrator. If she finds them, then she will doll out her own from of Juello worshiper justice and weakly smack them across the face.

3. Theo would simply move her food away from the grabber. She will also tell them to knock it off, but if they keep going at it she will get up and move away. If the person is persistent, then Theo will resort to drastic measures by smacking the perpetrators hand and demand that the person stop. If that doesn't stop them, then she will simply leave whatever place the thieving occurred with her food.

Maxence Peirgarten

1st:
Max is a genuinely nice guy, and is always friendly to others. However if they is a nuisance continuously trying to get on his nerves, he will loose his cool. He gets highly irritable and begins to fidget where he is, fiddling with his hands or looking around the room. Trying to find something to distract him from it. However if that doesn't work, he's rather forward and either shouts in annoyance or walks off having given up.

2nd: Someone defacing their property of some sort. If it something of value, like books from his study or paperwork of his, he would loose his calm nature immediately, having a short fuse when it comes to mess or ruin to his hard work, often throwing things around and angrily shouting until he manages to fix and repair whatever was defaced. If he found out who did it, he'd give them the cold shoulder for at least a day or two, wanting them to know " he's not angry, just disappointed."

3rd: Max is always happy to share with friends and family, if someone expressed interest in something he was eating, he'd offer the whole thing to them. However if it's a complete stranger he would display a very confused expression, followed by several in-audible words trying to figure out, who, why and what?

1st: Ruza tends to get annoyed rather easily, so someone repeatedly interrupting her would probably get called out. It wouldn't be immediate throwing hands, but she would ask them to stop. If they didn't she would probably part herself from the situation rather than sticking around to continue to get talked over.

2nd: Ruza is a hoarder, she keeps small trinkets and things she finds over the years. To most people they look like junk, but to her thye have meaning. She would probably be very angry if someone defaced her property since it probably had some minuscule meaning to her, especially if it was something that was old. She wouldn't go harm them, but would probably have someone else do it for her.

3rd: As said before, Ruza gets annoyed easily. Depending on the person she would probably snap if they stole her food. If it was someone she knew she probably wouldn't care and would joke and steal from their plate as well. If it was a random stranger it would probably result in her yelling at them.

1st: Amelina is more of a passive person, if someone is interrupting her she would probably sit back and let them until they finished. If they continued and didn't let up then she would finally speak up and call them out on it.

2nd: Having had her property and home defaced, Amelina isn't one who freaks out over things like that. Items and homes can be replaced. The only time she would care is if it something that holds a lot of meaning to her.

3rd: Amelina is much like Ruza in this sense that it would depend. If it was someone she knew it wouldn't bother her, but if it was some random stranger she would end up yelling at them or throwing the whole plate away and get a new one.

Might as well for Ryu, even if I haven't actually updated him from a Tigran to a Varran so he hasn't been used since the Varran update... whoops:

The 1st: Ryu would just aggressively glare at the the interrupter with growing impatience every time he became interrupted until he was finally noticed by the prepetrator, in which case he'd say to them in the most passive aggressive manner he can muster: "Oh, sorry there Lad/Lass, didn't realize this was practice for the 'I'm-an-intteruptin-twat' play, must have missed out on that. Please, continue practicing for your leading role." Then, proceed to let them wallow in their shame.
If he knew them personally, he'd most likely just smack them behind the head, Lady or Man.

The 2nd: Frankly he actually probably wouldn't even care that much. If it was some severe damage or quite offensive, he'd most likely suffice to yell at them to get off his lawn, and then attempt to either clean it up or cover it up somehow. Otherwise, just leave'em be.
If he knew them personally, he'd probably smack them behind the head, Lady or Man.

The 3rd: Take their glass of whatever drink they have and aggressively chug it without asking, and for any male he knew he'd smack them behind the head. Most ladies would likely suffer the same fate as well. You don't mess with his food.

Hank Delmonte

For reference: 1/10 ragehanks = an eyeball twitch and a passive aggressive sneeze.

5/10 ragehanks = pouting and crossed arms.

10/10 ragehanks = unconsolable screeching accompanied by plots for revenge, likely ending in painful death for the offending party.
  • 1st: Someone interrupting them repeatedly. Oh boy. Hank does not enjoy being interrupted. Though, she does enjoy interrupting. So ... 4/10 ragehanks.
  • 2nd: Someone defacing their property of some sort. Hank takes great pride in the few things she does own. Each holds a special place in her heart. 9/10 ragehanks.
  • 3rd: Someone eating food off of their plate without asking. Hank loves food and sharing. If anyone has gotten close enough to her personally to get near her food, they probably don't need to ask. 0/10 ragehanks.

1st: If someone were to continuously interrupt her, Juliette would firstly not be very annoyed- attempting perhaps a few more times than necessary to get her statement across unless they're continued. At that point, Juliette would- instead of becoming violent- invite everyone else of the group to come join her elsewhere and exclude the annoying person from their fun, not caring much if she hurt their feelings.
2nd: The young Ithanian would be quick to draw blades and serve a slice or two to the wrongdoer that ruined her property. In the case that she knew they were too skillful or larger than her to defeat, she'd send her loyal swordsmen friends after the thief.
3rd: She'd jab them in the hand with her fork, no questions asked.

1st: In the case that someone was constantly interrupting her, Merina would not become annoyed nor angry- but actually rather sad and usually would lose her voice to speak to instead fall silent.

2nd: With her usually closed in nature, it would be a shocker to discover that despite her good nature if she found someone had ruined her property, she'd hunt them down and burn them rather good so they don't mess with her things again.

3rd: Merina wouldn't care, letting take what they want.

Edmund

1st: He'd attempt to continue two or three times, after that, he would bluntly tell them to shut up.
2nd: He'd get mad. If he sees them doing it, he'd probably yell at them and chase them away, if he goes home to find a broken window, he'll grumble as he begins to clean up the glass.
3rd: The first time, he'd sigh, and move his plate away from the person, the second time, he'd jab them with his fork, the third time, he'd probably use his steak knife.

  • 1st: Someone interrupting them repeatedly.
    • Depending on the person, Dietrich would either let them talk or have them beaten senseless. Other times, he may just walk away since they are wasting air and his time. In short, if he can make them shut up, he will.
  • 2nd: Someone defacing their property of some sort.
    • More than likely he will have them beaten senseless. Or executed. You don't deface Drache property unless you want to fight a war. In the city, this becomes a bit trickier to do. But in his fief, defacing his property carries the same crime as treason, which is execution.
  • 3rd: Someone eating food off of their plate without asking.
    • To end up in this situation would be hard to do, but more than likely whichever bodyguard is nearby is going to slam the culprits face into the plate until it breaks, only to have every bit of the food forced down until they choke. Afterwords, a few good punches to the gut will make it very clear that you don't eat off another's plate.
Casein point, don't piss off Dietrich by doing something that is going to get you killed. Or worse.

1st: Alexander would try to stay calm for the first few times, before giving a sarcastic remark, hoping to make them be quiet.
2nd: He would likely be very angry, attempting to find the person and force them to either clean up what they did, pay for the damages, or perhaps just take a tooth or two if he was angry enough
3rd: It depends on who it was, if it was someone he didn't know or care for, he would probably smack at there hand and tell them off, but if it was someone he liked e would probably just laugh, taking food from them in return if they had any.

Daddy
  • 1st: Strike them repeatedly with a leather glove with little result in terms of harming them before feeding them a bowl of 'meat soup' followed by welding an iron collar to their neck and kicking them into a river to watch their legs kicking out of the water as they can't turn their head around to get air. Then finish what he was saying.
  • 2nd: Assist them in doing so. Followed by striking them repeatedly with a leather glove with little result in terms of harming them before feeding them a bowl of 'meat soup' followed by welding an iron collar to their neck and kicking them into a river to watch their legs kicking out of the water as they can't turn their head around to get air. Then finishing defacing his own property with a smile and a giggle.
  • 3rd: Strike them repeatedly with a leather glove with little result in terms of harming them before feeding them a bowl of 'meat soup' followed by welding an iron collar to their neck and kicking them into a river to watch their legs kicking out of the water as they can't turn their head around to get air. Then walking away with the plate untouched as he can physically not eat food.

Hannah Lexen
  • 1st: Blank stare, followed by silence.
  • 2nd: Blank stare, followed by silence. Gotta represent House Kade, so can't really do much unless it is within her right to act.
  • 3rd: Blank stare.
Kaya Sorenvik
  • 1st: See, that's a challenge on who can yell the loudest.
  • 2nd: Someone is getting their face defaced.
  • 3rd: Depends on who. If they're someone she knows, that's fine. Otherwise that person is getting their hand smacked. HARD.
