Founded in the year of 305AC following the devastating Battle of Altaqq, the Broken Standard is a controversial Sellsword Company founded by an up-jump Songaskian Sellsword working under the name Amahl of Rivellia. Having risen as a victor of a Freisoldner Tournament, Amahl made use of his earned Captaincy and deep pockets to unite and the survivors of the Trollstigel Blackmarks under a new banner, following their crushing defeat at the aforementioned battle. Symbolic of the Company's formation, the banner features a fractured and reassembled Trollstigel Blackmark shield on a blood-red field. The Company's words also follow this theme of resurgence, stated as such:
Though the majority of the Standard's members are comprised of Blackmarks drafted from the fallen Trollstigel Blackmarks, the atmosphere of the Standard is far removed from how the Trollstigel functioned. Led now by a Songaskian, the Standard encouraged the application of all combat styles, be they reliant on combat schools or racial background training, pushing for a more well rounded Company. Collared Mages and Alchemists of all kinds are also able to find employ under the Standard's tattered cloth, though this rule applies mainly to Light Mages.
Furthermore, the Standard considered prospects based on potential, skill, and ingenuity as opposed to simply race or background. As such, the Standard's roster aims to be a diverse one - with many of its members holding history as criminal offenders, due to how blind the application process is to such details. Such ethic has left some strong rumour surrounding the Standard, typically attributed to shady Sewer and Slum dealings, to whispers of even piracy and privateering, given the Standard's ominous sailing vessel - The Dawn's Envy. The latter rumours are only given more weight due to the public friendliness that the Standard's Captain and the Regalian Kaperflotten Inspector propagate.
What differentiates the Broken Standard from most Sellsword Companies is the group's willingness to 'adventure into the beyond', as claimed by the Standard's Captain. As the Company is run by a known adventurer and sailor, a sizeable sum of the proceeds are invested into the Standard's explorational activities and treasure hunts, typically in the form of grave robberies, ruin excursions, and trailblazing across rarely charted lands in search of wealth. Though not all efforts of the Standard are deemed successful in this respect, the Company is compressed of those ready to fight for coin and die for adventure's sake.
Be it battle or banquet, the Broken Standard is not without their spirit and sense of sought glory, recruiting all from the ranks of seasoned veteran to sly scoundrels - the Company's Captain deeming each member valuable in their place under his drunken and melodic wing.
- Gain money - We need it for adventures and kegs.
- Gain weapons - We need them to survive adventures.
- Gain armour - Same as weapons, equally important but pricier.
- Gain alcohol - Need it to celebrate our survivals and survive our funerals.
- Gain fame - Helps with that initial money issue.
- Gain infamy - Helps us stand out a smidge, focus more on fame though,
- Establish ourselves as a competent and formidable force - Helps get jobs, for money, for the rest.
- Establish a more permanent and fortified base for our group - Helps store the money, weapons, armour, kegs, and so on.
- Massive's rules are to be upheld.
- No god-roleplaying/powergaming or metagaming, etc.
- Treat people the way you would want them to treat you.
- Use common sense.
- Any OOC drama arises, contact @TheBioverse .
- Avoid toxicity.
- Have fun, but maintain a degree of professionalism.
Joining the Broken Standard is far from a fluid process, as it requires a potential member to seek out an official member, indicated by the signature red and black armband or headband. As many of the Company's members are regular tavern patrons, they can be found at most bars. The Standard's Captain, Amahl of Rivellia, is most frequently found either serenading others at the Golden Willow Tavern or relaxing at the Hidden Dragon.
Much like the Trollstigel Blackmark's functionality, decisions are often made as a group, though more experienced or wizened warriors naturally hold more weight. Of course, not all members are pushed to speak their say on every decision, and often times the Captain handles small decision-making for simplicity sake.
If you are interested in joining us, read the OOC rules clearly and leave a comment using the application format below.
If you are interested in hiring us, please send a PM or Forum Conversation to @TheBioverse. Specify on what your request is in IC Letter format. Expect an IC reply or even offer for an IC meeting with other Company members.
