House Reinard was founded generations ago when a Minister, Wilhelm Reinard, was given Baurith, a small parcel of land in Heartbury, Dragenthal, for his wise service to Witful Emperor Allemaria. It was from this service that the family gained it's name, and any prominence whatsoever. It is also said to be the origin of its sigil, a fox to symbolize the councilor's cleverness. Of course, it could merely be a reference to the many foxes that live near the Reinard estate - so many, in fact, that Baurith is named after the many fox burrows that can be found nearby. Most likely, it is a bit of both.
Reinard, while not destitute, was never as wealthy as many. An estate of loggers and subsistence farmers isn't, as one might guess, particularly lucrative. After Wilhelm, the house held no position of prominence, with no politically successful members to speak of. In fact, for the last century and a half Reinard has simply remained, quiet and comfortable, in the estate-house of Tusendule. Even during the Drachenwald crisis, Reinard remained quiet, out of the way, silently forbearing the slaughter of their kinsmen.
Its only real distinguishing mark was the fact that its members tended to be better educated, and in a wider range of subjects, than many similar houses. Learning has always been heavily emphasized in the upbringing of a Reinard child, as it is their primary asset in life. Wilhelm's legacy remains strong. For this reason the family has spawned numerous scholars, writers, and artists.
Yet foxes can only remain in their holes for so long. House Reinard has become known through the actions of its current patriarch, Augustin Reinard. Having journeyed to Regalia in search of new academic opportunities, he soon found himself unwittingly caught up in the whirlwind of politics. Though the unfamiliar territory and expectations can be overwhelming for a scholarly country landowner, a Reinard should not give up easily. When the opportunity presented itself Augustin obtained the position "Minister of Scholars", as his ancestor did nearly two centuries ago, and climbed to a Ducal title. After some time in this capacity, however, Augustin abandoned both titles to travel, studying what he perceived to be emerging powers that were intertwined with the very fabric of Aloria.
After a year gone, however, Augustin returned. He had heard news of new opportunities for his study, and found himself missing the opportunities that he had once only reluctantly accepted. Now, having re-attained its nobility, House Reinard stands reinvigorated and forward-facing, ready to meet what comes.
Values: Intelligence, Justice, Integrity
The Reinards cultivate a morality that one might call "paternalism" in regards to common folk. They hold that each being has his or her place, and will be happiest in that place. Some people are meant to lead, and others meant to follow, each to a varying degree. Masters and their servants, they posit, should have a familial relationship, wherein the master and patriarch guides the servants justly, organizing their lives where they lack the capacity to do so, and in return the servants afford their master loyal service.
Focuses: Scholarship, Artistry, Governance, Intelligence Gathering. Military Reinards exist, but are relatively uncommon.
Culture: Primarily Heartland Ceardian and Burdigala, with Alt-Regalian ancestry and some Archipelago Ithanian influence.
Physical Traits: Hair ranges from dark brown to a dirty blond, and eyes from brown to blue. Reinards tend to be of middling height, with men from 5'7 to 5'11, and women from 5'1 to 5'6.

Melisende Florentia Reinard, née d'Esclat - @Miss_Confined, 229 AC - The current patriarch's grandmother. Born to a Ravenstad banner family, she is a charismatic, poised, proud, and eloquent woman. Constantly pushing her family to greatness, and seeking it herself, she has nevertheless lived the relatively normal life of a mid-aristocratic matron. But nearing the end of her life, she has finally seen one of her greatest dreams realized: Her family has attained nobility.

Leander Reinard - Deceased, 253 - 300 AC - The former patriarch. Died of what is presumed to be a sudden illness. He was a soft-spoken, responsible, and caring man, interested in intellectual pursuits.
Domitille Reinard, née de Villeneuve - Open, 255 AC - Leander's widow. A passionate and strong-willed Burdigala/Ithanian woman, she is easily able to reach a person's heart through words. Her emotions, however, can get in the way of her reason.

Augustin Villeneuve Reinard - @Eronoc, 278 AC - The current patriarch of House Reinard. He was the first Reinard to spend significant time in the capital in a long while. Very much like his father, he is principled and academic, and has discovered a knack for endearing people to him. However, he often struggles in social situations.
Blanche Villeneuve Reinard - Closed, 283 AC - Augustin's sister. Taking after her mother, she is stubborn and strong-willed, and talented in all things artistic. She fled home shortly after Leander's death to go out and see the cultural capitals of Aloria. She has contacted her mother many times, but has not spoken with Augustin since the incident.

Lothair Isengrim Reinard - Closed, 255 AC - Leander's younger brother, and current heir to the Reinard estate. Calculating, militaristic, and pragmatic, he is proud of his heritage and sees the family's current state as inadequate. He has refrained from going to the capital out of duty to his family, but would leap at any opportunity to do so.

Aldrick Telesphore Reinard - @NoRezForYou, 280 AC - Gotfrid's son. A jack-of-all-trades, Aldrick is an eccentric and creative tinkerer. Feeling somewhat neglected by his father, he has a tendency to seek out attention through charm and wit.

Gregore Reinard - Open, 263 AC - The youngest of Leander's brothers. A poetic and charismatic but irresponsible and debauched man, Gregore received his inheritance early and set out to make his own way in the world, womanizing and drinking across Aloria. He has no doubt left a trail of bastards and broken hearts in his wake. Gregore is easily tempted by all manner of worldly pleasures, and suffers from manic highs and depressive lows. Largely a functioning alcoholic.
