"Considered to be one of the cultural hearths of the Ailor, Etosil is a vibrant island chain full of rich history. Etosil is located to the South of the the Regalian Archipelago, as part of the Ridge Isles along with Kilarallis, Arvost, and the Sun Isles. The islands have a colorful history, as it is home to both the Etosian culture, known for its arts and debauchery, and Etosian Unionism, the second largest sect of the religion. The islands are rugged and the people even more so; a fact that is evident in the rolling pastures of the countryside. The grueling conditions have done nothing to ease the burden of the locals. Yet in the city centers, where the arts bloom like a delicate flower between the jagged rocks. Here: theatre troops, painters, and sculptors ply their crafts, creating some of the most famous pieces of art across the Empire. Etosil is also home to vast supplies of lapis lazuli, with the mines of Etosil supplying a large portion of the Azure Order's supply. This gift, however, has not come without cost, as the island is also home to one of the largest populations of undead in all the Imperial provinces. Despite all efforts made to try and curb the undead, the residents of Etosil have not been able to purify their home." -Massivecraft Wiki on Etosil

Hello! I'm Indyfan98! I haven't been on the server, or Minecraft in general for a while. However, I have returned! And I bring with me good news! I have created a map of the island of Etosil!

Etosil is, as far as I understand, based off of real world Greece. As such, I have gone with a very Mediterranean vibe for the map. Etosil has many fields of flowers and plenty of lapis lazuli, making the island a dye-makers best friend!

As some of you may remember, I once tried to make a Farah'deen map. That didn't go down too well, as my computer isn't powerful enough to handle a map that large. Etosil is significantly smaller than a full continent (approximately 6000x2500 blocks).

As the title of the thread states, I'm looking for people to playtest the map and give me feedback. That's where you guys come in. I have the map up for download on Mediafire, and you are all more than welcome to give me pointers, criticism, what you'd like to see, take screenshots, etc.

Keep in mind, there is no guarantee that this map will be added to Massivecraft. In fact, it is highly unlikely that it'll ever be added. It is, however, an exercise in my World Painter skills. Hopefully, I will become good enough to become a World Staff member, and may even get to work on an official Etosil map. However, who knows. Maybe it'll become good enough to become a roleplay/quest world, or even a faction world (unlikely due to the small-ish size).

So far, this map is currently the result of a week and a half of almost non-stop work (though about a quarter of that time was spent exporting the map from World Painter to Minecraft). Many a long night was spent at my computer screen.

Special thanks to YouTuber Lord Dakr. Without his tutorials, I'd never have made this map to the quality it is. It may not be Massivecraft quality, but I think it's a darn shot better than my Farah'deen map.

So, enough blabbing. You probably want the download link, so here she is:

Large, flat areas are done on purpose, as those are where cities would go.

Enjoy, and remember to post you feedback in the thread here. Be sure to include coordinates of any problems you find that I may have missed.

Always nice to hear someone take so much time and effort to produce a piece of Massivecraft lore. Though I feel this map could use some improvements, a few aspects of the map don't look very convincing. For me, the most prominent aspects are the mountains and the flowers.

For the mountains, the image of the map looked more like land with a few lines painted on rather than an actual mountainous island. I suggest making the mountains thicker and a more dominating aspect of the land, expanding them to the coast or to fit the contours of the island. The mountains in the northwest looks better than the rest, I would suggest applying that same thickness to the rest of the mountains. Use references, look up images of island topography, or even the dynmaps for our very own worlds. Notice how mountains tend to be very dominating features of an island, especially for volcanic islands since it is the rise of a volcano that forms and shapes an island. Try not to think of it as an island with some mountains here and there, but instead think of it as some very large mountains that formed an island.

The other aspect are the flowers. They feel unconvincing since you have them everywhere in a homogenous mixture. The same plants tend to grow together in groups. Not to say that you can't mix them, but it would feel more organic if there were smaller patches of particular flowers here and there rather than being so evenly mixed. The abundance of them also felt unnatural and oversaturated, especially in image of the forest. Again, rather than covering the entire land, it might feel more natural to have various large and small patches here and there where populations grow. A forest should be more devoid of flowers, as if the trees were blocking the sunlight from reaching the forest floor. For a more believable forest, I would suggest having a thicker coverage of trees, and putting flowers only where the canopy opens up to the sky and the sun shines down onto the forest floor.

Thank you for the tips and links! I'll start work on this right away!

Here are some of the issues fixed:

As you can see, a lot of work still needs to be done, but I at least hope it's an improvement.

Holy moly I could have never imagined this! Good job on it, sure looks like. Do you imagine you will be making some of the settlements on the island? I already see one building there, and I know the wiki and some progression events have mentioned others.

Well, I would like to add at least one settlement. I guess it depends on
1: If it'll be added to the server (a bit unlikely)
2: Whether it'd be a roleplay, quest, or faction world

A faction world only really has one settlement; the main hub town. The rest is up to the players. A roleplay or quest world could see several settlements. I'm thinking that in the off chance it is added to the server, it'd be a roleplay/ questing world. So, I think I may add a couple of cities along the lines of this design:

wsma1.jpg

If it were indeed added for either a factions world or a open-world RP world (which I would very much prefer but i'm incredibly biased), or quest world, but either way i'd certainly love to see a settlement like that. One reason I bring it up is because it mentions an Undead Necropolis somewhere on Etosil, as well with a huge ancient spire thing. But tons of little settlements would be cool as well, especially in that style. I just put a bit of what it said about the notable structures below for anyone else who wished to see. Anyhow, i've got class, so good luck in whatever you end up doing!

"Ouranopoli
One of the oldest structures on the island, Ouranopoli is an ancient Seraph tower jutting out of the plains near Lapitona. The ancient structure towers over the surrounding countryside, giving a view of nearly all of Etosil on a clear day. It is said that this was the place where Emperor Henri the Third blessed the tower and proclaimed Etosil to be united with the Empire after the War of Reclamation. It is a famous pilgrimage site for Etosian and Sancellist Unionists alike, attracting tourists from across the Empire.

Kyrios
The Ancient City of Etosil. Kyrios is the oldest Ailor city in Etosil, settled on the northern shore of Korinos. It is home to some of the oldest institutions of learning in the Empire, such as the Instituto Nikodemos Erodios, one of the most prestigious academies in the world on the field of battle tactics, the Heron Gregorious Academy, which teaches the ancient arts of Etosil such as sculpting and theater, and lastly the Skinis tou Elpida, a beautiful tabernacle which boasts the largest collection of Heron relics in Etosil. Kyrios is considered a sacred city to the Etosians, and is praised as being the cradle from which all Etosians came from.

Undercity
This has become increasingly evident in the rise of Undead, who have begun to come together to form a nation under Etosil, which they dub the Necropolis of Thanasil. While few outside nations even recognize the Necropolis as a country, the Exalted Patriarch has become content to let them dwell beneath the ground as long as they do not cause problems."

Assuming this got added as a Roleplay/ quest world, how would a main quest line revolving around this sound:

"The undead of Etosil once had a leader called Vagrand Poplonnis. He created a fair and just undead society in the mountains, mostly consisting of undead miners and pirates who had died around the islands. But as time went by, his mind slipped away and his body decayed, allowing him to succumb to insanity. He is now the Bone King in Etosil, a name whispered when the undead come to abduct Etosians to initiate them into their ranks." Massivecraft Wiki on Undead

"The Bone King has been relatively silent in his actions for a few years now, not attracting too much attention from the locals. Some fear he is preparing for war." Massivecraft Wiki on Vagrand Poplonnis

Hey, guys, just so you know, I'm attempting to remake the map from scratch so as to better make it look like a volcanic island. I feel like this would be easier than editing the existing map. Etosil 2.0 should be up for download in a couple of days. Please still give me feedback, as I can still use it when making the new map!

@Enkiduu How does this map look? Better? My line of reasoning was that if there were multiple volcanos, they would have originally formed a separate islands that fused together, so I put the volcanos as a pseudo ring around the main island. The other, smaller, islands I imagined were formed by a single volcano, and that one day, they, too, would likely fuse to the main island. Here is a map:

Ye, I like the train of thought you put into this. The map looks much improved.

Fully updated to Etosil 2.0! Expect an Etosil 3.0 coming sometime in the future, larger and better than this iteration! Please give me feedback on what you'd like to see added, changed, and/ or kept the same!

OMG I'm so happy someone is making Etosil, I myself am planning on making the shadow isles or a recreation Rie in its prime so its nice to see people making there own versions of the massivecraft world.

I would love to recreate Ellador! Maybe once I get my new gaming PC.

How do you plan on making the Shadow Isles' black trees? Just curious. Is there any way I could help?
