From its humble beginnings as a ragtag collection of mercenaries and sellswords under allegiance to Niven Typhonus, the Grey Company has always been a pillar of the House Typhonus' rule, having a heavy hand in the family's rise to power.

The Grey Company was formed by Niven Alarick Typhonus in the year 198 AC in the midst of the succession crisis in Calemberg begat by the fall of the House Cadar. With Lady Melissandre Cadar having no direct legitimate heirs, the once-unified Archduchy exploded into internal turmoil after her untimely death, with each patrician and local minor house vying for control of their respective regions. Niven, being a prominent sellsword and son of a relatively wealthy local governor (who was rumored to have very close relations with the Lady Cadar), rallied numerous fellow sellswords, as well as a few mercenary companies, to his banner with the intention of seizing the City of Calemberg, the capital of the Archduchy. While the union was loose, unorganized and somewhat small (numbering from anywhere 600 to 1,130 men per estimation), Niven and his small mercenary army managed to storm the city gates and occupy the capital with very little resistance. Petitioning Emperor Handorien himself, Niven was granted formal control over the City of Calemberg and the surrounding province, as well as the title "Count of Calemberg," officially entering the House Typhonus into the ranks of the aristocracy. As a reward for their loyalty, Niven formalized the position of the Grey Company in Calemberg law, authorizing them as the personal retinue army of the lord of Calemberg, additionally granting the members steady payment and barracks along the massive bastion walls of the city.

While the membership and importance of the Grey Company have waxed and waned with each individual patriarch after Niven, it is generally understood that the Grey Company acts as a private fighting force for the House Typhonus in their capacity as the rulers of Calemberg. While not to be confused with the Bergwacht (which is the nominal garrison force that defends castles, estates, and other properties owned by the House Typhonus in Calemberg), members of the Grey Company are often seen acting as personal bodyguards to members of the Typhonus family, as well as wartime retinues who serve them on the field of battle.​

Rank Structure & Hierarchy

Grand Commander: The rank of Grand Commander is the highest rank in the Grey Company. The Grand Commander has sole control and authority over the Company and its members, and is always held by the acting patriarch of the House Typhonus with no exceptions. The current Grand Commander of the Grey Company is Elros Typhonus.

Captain: Captains in the Grey Company are charged with overseeing the rank and file members of the company, ensuring both the quality and loyalty of those beneath them in rank. While their duties as bodyguards may not differ too much from the Grey Eagles, captains may be called upon to lead during specialty assignments or in situations where they must command their subordinates to ensure the safety of the House Typhonus and its members. Captains may also discipline lower ranking members for instances of incompetence and insubordination, and may terminate lower ranking members with the consent and counsel of the Grand Commander. There is only one Captain in Regalia. The current Captain of the Grey Company is Kathrynn Brevedent (@NZ_Phoenix).

Grey Eagles: The Grey Eagles make up the rank and file membership of the Grey Company. Grey Eagles are charged with ensuring the protection of the House Typhonus and its interests, as well as protecting and serving the Typhonus family on the battlefield as skilled retinues/bodyguards to Typhonus soldiers and generals. Grey Eagles are expected to be entirely loyal to the House Typhonus and Calemberg, and ready to abide by any commands given with no hesitation.

Yes, she does have Parlour magic. But she will never use it while on duty or on work, she won't tell others she has it either unless need be. She is signing up for this knowing full well magic isn't allowed in House Guard groups. But she does it anyway. But do note in her letter she classifies she does, in fact, have abilities. Question is, what kind of abilities in her letter does she speak of? Perhaps something for your char to icly ask about.

I had quit for the simple fact that the manathar there have so many sticks up their asses that it makes em' entitled as fuck. I have worked for a house guard once before. I already know how shit works. There wasn't so many entitled folk in the house guard I was part of.

I did not show you a false permit. I was given that permit before I was hired in as a Freelance mercenary. I did not show you a forged permit. I just did not know that there was a second permit required to be a mercenary inside Grey Gate Keep. I was hired by the other Ailor to train his lad. I apologize for the confusion, but I did not attempt to break any basic Regalian Laws. I have utmost respect for the city and wish to do my part.
