I have noticed on some days a helpop is answered almost instantly, while others, 8 + hours goes by and I log, to find "offline" as a resolution. I doubt I am the only one who uses /modlist to see 4 mods online, and wonders if the helpop will be responded to shortly.

While I'm sure the Trusted members enjoy helping, after so many xyz helpop's they probably just want to sit back at their favorite tavern and drink the day away.

I'm not sure if there is a good solution, however in my experience with other mmo \ online rpg games, moderators have access to other servers where they are not allowed to help \ reveal themselves as a mod. While this is true for Minecraft, Massivecraft is unmatched so far as I can tell by other servers.

So my suggestion would be to allow our moderators a venue to play MassiveCraft in a manner where they can be themselves, and not on duty. Perhaps a command similar to the faction admin override but when used it removes their title, or it masks their name entirely with a nick, and changes their permissions to that of a normal player.

I've seen several moderators leave or otherwise be removed from the server, they seemed to be good people, however they become burnt out of the game because of their position ( granted if one wishes to advance within the game they should be prepared for it )

Disclaimer: This thread is intended to introduce an idea and possibly help the mod team out with separating their time between being able to play, and being refreshed to handle /helpop requests. There are always going to be ways that a system can be abused if the person using it has a malicious intent. If the suggestion is accepted that would be a good time to discuss the mechanics etc.

I'm not sure this is a usefull implementation, some of the staff is on duty with helops, but then refuses to deal with pm's, which people automatically assume they can deal with when they are on duty.

Actually I like this idea. Very much so. As a moderator I love to help people; however, I also love to play Minecraft as a game. I currently command a collection of factions and love to raid and fight with many players on the server. However when I try to fight with people I get PM's calling for my aid and wanting me to remove deadbolts. This gets tedious when attempting to play the game and have fun. Also getting those I'm raiding call me 'abusive' or saying that I'm abusing my power is very annoying when I'm playing fairly.

Being a Moderator on MassiveCraft is not all about running to everyone's aid or generally being just a sign remover. It doesn't mean that I should be disallowed to play the game on the server I love.

Note: You could say that I could simply buy and alternate account and use that. My response is simply, I do not have the money to buy this account, nor the time to train my skills in game, get items for myself and essentially start again.

Vanish removes players from all lists. I reckon it would just be enough to remove moderators from /modlist and the tab list. As long as the mod didn't talk in global or anything, they could enjoy some peace and quiet.

But when we raid? They claim abuse. It's stupid. Removing all colour and changing the nickname is a great idea.

I salute you sir.

To even see a player suggesting this for us, not simply complaining that we"ignore them" when we want to play a little is amazing! (Y)
It's so lovely to see a player caring for the team in this way, thank you! (hug)

I suggested this when I was a moderator. My solution was to get an alt.

Even if this was reversed, Moderators in game use their screen name to play, and then use a command /moderate the game or something ... to switch to a generic name perhaps a "Deity" if lore was to be written who exclusively work help-op's, and run in game events. This way as time progresses Moderators are not known directly, but a Deity or mystical entity resolves non rp issues.

It would then fit the RP theme of the server, without breaking the boundaries, it would allow moderators to decide how often they want to moderate, and how often they want to play the game, it would even stop the n00bs from saying someone is abusing their power in a raid, because after time passes no one would know who the puppet masters are, and it would segregate mod powers from players when they want to play.

With that said, without Moderators, Massivecraft would not function, yes they get premium, but they also get spam tells for help I'm sure, as well as very little gratitude. Why should they have to pay an extra $20 to have an alt account ?

Also I do not like seeing good members of the staff go, or become burnt out because they want to play, but are hounded to help.

While the ultimate decision of this would be left up to Cayorion, I think it is only fair that the people who help his server run have a little more freedom in game to play if they wish.

We need one moderator (trusted, keeper, or elder) on post ready for helpops at ALL TIMES! So, if some moderators want to play Minecraft, they can. There will always be someone ready and others can play :) At that: we need a command that will remove color and prefixes (I'd like this for Premiums as well, It sucks when people run away because they see our green name |-() Probably
Code:
/hide
or
/show (to undo it)
If you have a better command, please tell me :)

There are lots of existing mods that would provide this functionality, and now that the server tps is stable and working very well, adding a mod that would cause virtually no strain on the server only seems fair.

It seems that out of 100 + views, and 10 + comments no negative statements have occurred regarding the OP, when might we see some response on this matter ?

I've left many games in the past because of getting burned out on moderating duties and not getting to play the game. So I would have to agree with this idea for the sake of the mods we have now.

In all fairness I spoke of this after reading this thread.

I think this is a great idea. It must be a pain to be for staff members who want to spend a couple hours maybe even days as just a player but have to get spammed with helpops and private messages. Also it would be cool is premiums can hide their color as well. We always have people we want to kill run away because they see the GREEN. Maybe that could be like another premium feature
