Dark Room Re-balancing? If And How?

Hey, I'm Mammoth and I use the dark room to make most of my own money on the server. I use it to pay for stuff, pay off others, and other things.. like all money works. Lately (After the update) Its been much harder to get a good flow of money from the dark room. Me and my friends have been doing some testing and did a small bit of math and this is what were seeing.

Our Test:
On 1.8 we did our test first to see how much we could make.
For about 30 min of just grinding we got about 100r - 120r witch seems plenty fair to me.
(This is not including Yellow/Purple mobs)

Now I know there is a bunch of stuff that needs to be re-balanced with the update in general
But the economy on the server is something that should always try and be kept running smoothly.

On 1.9 we again did our test after hearing people noting how hard it was to make money.
For about 30 min of pure grinding we were getting 50r - 60r witch is about a half cut to what we were making.

I wanted to bring this to the forums to hear ways of balancing this? Is it meant to be this way?
I do not have very much information about what was changed but for factions that really enjoy the PVE we would like to know more about changes.

Reason I believe its harder to get money:
In 1.9 the weapon damaged was changed to match the new armor scales (From what I know Massive could not change the way the armor works in 1.9) Doing this made it harder to kill mobs that at one point were easy.
Using a sharpness 5 sword (Or any weapon besides a bow) Does not 1 shot low level mobs. So it takes longer to kill mobs that were once easy to pick off making it take longer to earn money from low leveled mobs.

The Current Prices of Mob money:
  • Common 0.04 ↔ 0.06 Regals (Takes 2-3 hits! With Sharp V)
  • Enchanted 0.4 ↔ 0.6 Regals
  • Uncommon 4 ↔ 6 Regals
  • Rare 40 ↔ 60 Regals
  • Epic 400 ↔ 600 Regals

Voice your ideas, opinions, general ideas on what the staff should do.

I'll vouch for this. Even using strength 2, mobs do not go down faster.

I was all for the normal 1.9 attack speeds and such, which would probably make everything work out (I think.) But since this isn't going to happen any time soon if at all, there needs to be a better way.

I just camp and bow spam mobs now since that's the only way to get kills nowadays.


I'd also like to mention that with the lower armor protection, mobs do A LOT more damage. It doesn't seem so at first, but when you end up at 3 hearts after only 3 seconds in a mosh pit of mobs, you start to see the problem. Especially when the shield isn't helping much. I think one solution is to just have mobs yield more regals per tier. I think this is the best way, since it avoids changing the attack speeds and armor points for everything again, which is tedious.
 
Yeah, I have noticed this very much so. I think if massive just made a few tweaks to how much money they drop the problem of the mobs (At least money wise) would be balanced back out.

However A thing to also note in the way mcmmo works, damage is how skills are leveled up, Its VERY hard to level up sword/axe compared to how it was in 1.8 do to how the damage was decreased to even out pvp. And this should be noted.

Mcmmo Is not as a big of problem as the money is, but i'm fairly sure people who are trying to level up to beat higher skilled players levels are really hitting a wall right now. I do respect the fact that It will take time for Massive to update and patch there stuff, However if the player base is really starting to hit walls they need to be fixed.

And that is why I am trying to voice these problems.

Yup totally agree. I'm pretty sure the people over at MCMMO are probably going to redo their skill system for 1.9, since before it it was designed to balance swords and axes. The 1.8 system just doesn't translate perfectly.
 
This Problem really is a pain, For PVErs.
At this very moment a 50% price cut from the dark rooms makes farming mobs almost pointless other then drops.
Its 175r for 1 peace of diamond armor, if you were to purely grind just at the dark room, IT WOULD take you 1 hour 30 min (roughly) To earn enough for that chest plate.. Witch do to armor nerf is even more annoying! Dark rooms were and are A GOOD place to make money. And they need to be for the servers econ to work well.

IF you are happy with the econ of 1.8, We all need to really voice this problem.
The server needs to fix this next patch, or at least make a temp fix.
So both the econ and the players stay healthy.

This is not even mentioning how some factions have to use the dark rooms to pay off factions max tribute!
If you think you are safe from this problem you are not!
 
I honestly quit because of the update. But that's off topic... >.<

Not likely to happen. They actually halved the regal drops a few months back so it actually used to be at what you are proposing but it was causing the regal to drop in value because of how easy it was to get rich killing mobs so they halved it to it's current state.

BUT

Having said that this idea has my full support.
 
The thing is, this is no longer 1.8 and with the current drop in armor durability and the new mob A.I it's not as easy as it once was to farm for money. But massive has not changed the drop rate for money, the mobs are simply more hard to kill making it take longer to gain the amount of cash needed. I personally like the extra challenge for Pve, but with it, I would like greater rewards to come from the extra work I have to put in as a player.

With the new premium changes I hope the mobs will be edited to help the ones who rely on darkrooms to get money. I don't feel like dying every 10 minutes to mobs now knowing I lose everything in my inventory should that happen, and my xp.

Specifically if the mobs don't get easier to kill, then the rewards from them should go up.

You can't get enough money to pay for /fix and your armor gets damaged so quickly you are loosing tons of money to keep things repaired. They need to seriously change the amount of damage done by mobs or drastically increase the drops, cause right now it makes you loose money to go dark rooming. Even if I'm just using a bow from a safe location I'm having to pay to repair my infinity bow or constantly having to figure out/pay for supplies for arrows.

Plus I can't really use my levels to repair my bow or enchanted armor because naming items no longer stops them from dramatically increasing in cost with each repair.

I'm not blaming the server for any of this, I know these changes were not their fault, but many people rely on this for a means to make money and right now it's impossible.

They lowered the damage yesterday by 20% and now it's a lot easier to survive. I darkroomed all day yesterday in basic diamond armor and didn't die even once.
 
Did you actually end up making money tho? Cause the damage amount isn't the main problem. The amount of money you can make vs the damage to your weapons and armor is the problem because it costs more now to repair those things then you are able to earn while darkrooming.

I made around 1k which is just a little less than I usually do. The only loss was the regals I used to /fix my axe but that cost nowhere near what I made off the mobs alone.
 
What about the cost of repairing your armor? I'm not trying to be flamatory I just really don't see how it's possible. I repaired my god bow and that cost me 40 regales and I hadn't made nearly that much....are you only able to dr with regular weapons and armor now?
 
I know 40r is like nothing. But I wasn't in there very long since I was just testing to see if I could make money.
 
What about the cost of repairing your armor? I'm not trying to be flamatory I just really don't see how it's possible. I repaired my god bow and that cost me 40 regales and I hadn't made nearly that much....are you only able to dr with regular weapons and armor now?
I use a basic god axe and regular unenchanted diamond armor. Every time I repair my armor it takes about 1 diamond since I have maxed repair so each time I fix my full suit it takes 4 or so diamonds which cost around 4r.
 
Just killed a Dread Wraith with nothing but plain diamond armor and a god bow & sword. Kinda easy when you hide behind sniper walls.

But nonetheless, mobs are definitely easier to handle. Though I prefer bow sniping em than melee.
 
It wasn't the mob difficulty I was talking about. I can kill the mobs no problem. My concern was the money input from killing mobs vs money and /fix output that it takes to darkroom. We just need to make sure darkrooming is still profitable. Sounds like it may be fixed tho so I will give it a try.

Try using vinnila xp insted of using Massive's repair
