--==oo00OO Staff & Student applications are now open! OO00oo==--

Seraphim Academy is now accepting applications for the following positions!

~ Professors of the magic types listed below (must be an expert in magic field you are applying for)
~ Guards
~ Doctors and Nurses
~ Gardeners
~ Servants/Butlers/Maids
~ Chefs
~ Secretary

Seraphim Academy is also now accepting enrollment applications! Students of all ages are welcome! We also accept non-magic users under the age of 16!

Note: As of now we only have a lightning mage professor & an ice mage professor. We are still accepting applications for magic types outside of those two, and we are working hard to fill other staff positions.

General Overview:

The College of Magic would be high standards college; only accepting the most promising, hard working, and trustworthy of mages. The college would offer a safe environment that would allow students to continue their development in magic, with the help of fellow peers, and professors.
It would be a safe place for students and staff to talk about their practice, and the wonders of magic. The college will be secluded, nestled in the snowy winter scape of Jorrihild.

Goal for the College:

The goal for the college is to develop a large and active community of mages, students, and really anyone interested in general lore of magic. In order to attract this type of group we want to create a safe and complete environment for them, allowing them to thrive.

How it will be Run:

The college would be run essentially as your normal college would be, with a few tweaks here and there.

  • Applications - All staff and students wishing to participate in the college must apply on the forums in order to participate. Applications will include an IC letter to the head principle of the college, And a link to their staff certified character applying for a spot in the college, a short OOC letter, and an IC reference or an OOC reference will be required. The OOC letter would include a brief overview about them as a player, and their character. As part of the application, we may ask to do an IC interview to ask the player some questions.

  • Staff - The college would be run by a small group of select few people worthy of taking on the job of assisting the college to get to its goal. We plan on having cooks, guards, nurses, secretary, and servants. All of which would have to apply here on the forums, and have a staff certifies role play character. If we are interested we may ask to interview them IC.

  • Dorms - Everyone involved with the college will be offered living facilities. Students and servants will be expected to share rooms (2-4 per room). Professors, cooks, guards, nurses, and secretary will all be offered personal rooms. Offering staff and students living quarters in the college will not only allow convenient item storage, it also offers interesting role play.
  • Classes - Students that are accepted to the college will be forced to enroll in classes of their magical form. Set times will be determined for public lectures, that will be kept as convenient as possible for everyone. We plan on holding 2-3 classes per week for each magic form, with enrolled students. We also hope to offer individual/private lessons available whenever your professor is free; tutoring in other words. The lectures will be kept short (to keep RPers from getting bored), and a lot of practical learning. For example your professor would watch you try out a spell, and correct your mistakes.
  • Rules - The college would have strict, strongly enforced IC rules, along with OOC rules. Although it depends on the severity of the rule being broken, it would most likely result in expulsion from the college.

Here it is! Took a long time to complete, but I think it turned out half decent :P. Pls leave feel free to leave any constructive criticism on the build! It helps a lot!

If you have any comments about this idea please don't be afraid to comment it! Constructive criticism on the idea/system will help a lot! I just really want this to be a successful role play spot outside of Regalia!

I'd be interested in this.

Assuming this will be strict lore compliant, the main concern that comes to mind is what the lore behind such a place would be; things like what their relationship with the Regalian Empire would be, what kinds of magic they'd allow/disallow.

While I have no interest in a college of magic for my own roleplay purposes, I will answer your questions.

1. Yes. College's are great for role-play, and I can imagine many people would relish an opportunity to live out their Hogwarts fetishes :3

2. My biggest concerns would be quality control. You would need to work with lore-staff to make sure this is completely in accordance with the server lore, and perhaps request that lore staff help you oversee it. This is a good idea, however things like this are attempted often, and you run the risk of gaining a reputation for God-RP and low quality role-play. Not saying that you personally would implement these flaws, but things like this are effectively, for God-RPers, what lanterns at night are for bugs.

3. All of the basic, mainstream types. I would recommend against teaching secret magics, or those that are not considered to be widely available. Many of the magics in the lore are rare or restricted, and thus it is unlikely that a college would exist to teach them. If I were you, I would teach elemental magic and celestial magic, and nothing else.

4. This is really your preference as the creator. If it's your own faction, then you need to have ties to strong roleplay factions, to provide members with other facets for roleplay as well as OOC amenities (such as darkrooms, farms, and availability to mine). Or you can build these things for your college yourself, as OOC perks.

5. Dorms would be cool, it is again up to you as the creator.

6. You could teach "scholarly" subjects such as older languages and the history of Alorian cultures and great powers. Nothing that resembles common core, such as mathematics, I'd presume.

7. Yes, yes you should most definitely require a thorough application on the forums, followed by an In-character interview to gain admission to the college. By doing this, you set the bar high for this roleplay, and you can prevent God-RPers from joining.

8. Depending on the continent, and culture that the college is based in, I would recommend following certain cultural prejudices. Just because someone is a mage doesn't make them immune to the racial discrimination that is ingrained in medieval society.

9. OOC, it should be free, but IC you should charge a hefty price for somebody seeking to attend a college.

10. Attendants, chefs, guards (a local militia for the college), teachers, servants/slaves, would all be helpful.

Stuff like this has been attempted but never followed through with, even in Regalia something similar to this existed. But none of the teachers ever showed up, so.

Yes I'm going to keep this as lore complaint as it can be, I will be sure to keep you on a list, and let you know when The college is open. It will take some time to create a lore for the college and its history, but I will be sure to let you know when it's complete!

The Azure Order or nobles could pay for someone's school fees if they find them promising.
Although, like @5devildragon said this might not be followed through with, and cooperation would be hard to find

I am hesitant this would succeed if it was in any way related to the Azure Order or Regalia. They aren't fond of magic running free.

Honestly, it seems to me that the best way for this college to succeed is if it tried to fly under Regalia's radar in a different continent, and try to attract as little attention from them as possible. If the Regalian Empire and/or the Azure Order found out about it, they would likely try to control it or eliminate it.

Thank you very much @Barsi_ ! I will definetly consider everything you siad! Quick question.
OOC, it should be free, but IC you should charge a hefty price for somebody seeking to attend a college.
By this do you mean to charge people to attend clases but allow people to stay for free?

I don't doubt you, but cooperation is hard to find :P
Yes, hopefully by putting a lot of hard work into making things very classy, more people will want to participate. It will also keep me wanting to follow through with it if I put a lot of work into it. Thanks for sounding your concerns! =P

Like @Barsi_ said, they most likely would be against this college, or want to control it. Although, it wouldn't be out of the question for the school to offer scholarships for people of interest/promising mages/scholars.

That is very true, and definetly a possibility. Thats one problem applications to get into the college could elimenate to an extent, but you never know! If they were to hire someone outside of the Azure Order there wouldn't be a good way to figure it out.

I meant that in character, you should 'pretend' as if one character is paying another.

But OOC, you should just let the players roleplay it regardless. And if it's a faction, you can tax them either way.

Do you think people would want to role play here in the first place?
Yes, absolutely! I, personally, would thoroughly enjoy roleplaying at a college!
What are your biggest concerns?
As mentioned above, these large projects take a lot of work, time, and patience. Unless whoever is running it is 100% dedicated to seeing the college be successful, I feel that it would struggle to retain itself.
What magic types would you like to see being taught there?
The most common and accepted forms of magic, nothing more. (I'll elaborate if needed)
Should the college be it's own individual faction, or ask a faction owner with a large faction to build it there?
I feel that a college should be it's own individual faction, as long as it has powerful allies to protect it.
Should there be dorms?
I feel that dorms would be a neat addition, however, I feel that this is an 'added bonus,' and that the core essentials of the college (teachers, classes, etc.) should be dealt with first.
Should stuff other than magic be taught there? Like additional languages like Elven?
No. I feel that this would be extremely overwhelming towards the staff of the college.
What would be an ideal location for this college?
Personally, I think that it should be isolated in the snowy mountains of Jorrhild... Skyrim, anyone?
Should it be private? As in require an application on the forums to join?
YES! I think that an application is a necessity, as to prevent both the staff of the college from being overwhelmed by random pedestrians hoping to get a look, but also to prevent God-RP.
What would you not want to see at the college? Certain races, magic types, really anything you can think of.
The only thing I would not like to see is controversial magic being taught. I feel that this would create debate and uproar regarding the college, and potentially cause it's downfall.
Should the college be free? (What I want to do)
Out of character, I feel that an extremely small fee (10-40r) should suffice, as running a college would take loads of time and patience, something I think the staff of the college should be rewarded for. In character, I think that college should cost around 5,000-10,000r, depending on the form and duration of the course(s).
What are some positions/jobs that could be useful in the college?
Professors, assistants, cooks, and guards.

All in all, although this would be tough to start up and even tougher to run, if successful, this would be utterly amazing!

This seems very interesting. I have an antimage character who would be interested in this...

I'm currently pretty inactive on Massive, but I have an approved light magic expert that I could see as a teacher. Who knows..

That would be great! The only this is that I'm going to need very active teachers if I'm going to do this. Hopefully I can find people that can get on several times a week

I have an approved expert water mage that would be extremely interested in becoming a professor, so give me a holler if you need staff. :)

I'm starting to look at some possible locations for the college. I want to build it in Jorrihld, so if you guys know of any nice scenic, and semi flat spots let me know! I also think it would add to rp to have some ruins nearby, but I think it's most important to have a good location!

Although none of my characters would really be interested in this, and I've been rather busy, it might be fun to help out with this! Let me know if there's anything I can do, and I'll see if I can get to it.

One quick thing I'd recommend: As you're looking for a location, start talking with the Lore staff. To make this work, you're going to need to coordinate with staff, so you should start building a good platform early on.

Despite the fact that I'd personally love the opportunity to use Evergrowth, I do wish to point out that canonically Evergrowth would be a pretty rare school of magic and probably wouldn't be taught in such a facility.

Yeah I was thinking about that, I agree with you. Maybe it's something Isn't planed on holding at the college, but if someone comes along sufficient for teaching that magic style, maybe a possibility? But its a hard desicion since it is a hidden magic...

I'd recommend against it. If for no other reason than maintaining significant adherence to the lore and the legitimacy that grants you, I'd stick to the most basic of magics.

Added pictures of the college (incomplete). I'm just gonna tag you guys to show this thing is in progress.

I have contacted @Catcat1305 to see if he knew of anyone in the rp department or lore department that would be willing to check in with the college every so often to comfirm everything is strictly complaint with the lore.

Nice work! You've got a great start to this! Keep it up!

I'm an avid builder with an extensive supply of smooth stone, so I'd be happy to assist in construction. I'd definitely suggest asking Lore staff about how the academy could fit in with the lore. For example perhaps all attendees must already have limited magic knowledge, and thus have already been processed by the Azure order. It's unlikely, that with Regalia's general attitude towards Magic, they'd promote an academy that teaches it brand new. Unless the academy handles both the teaching of control and progression to current mages, and teaches less frowned upon magics such as Light, Sight etc to complete newbies, with the eventual goal of conscripting that mage into jobs provided by the Regalian government bodies. Such as working as a Seer for the Azure.

As a thought, often when building large constructions like this you find yourself creating unnecessary rooms that can be left blank and unfilled. To eliminate this could I definitely suggest dormitories, as you might find in a boarding school. Often when rping in the past, my characters had to go back to an imaginary room where I have to pretend I'm not standing there right in front of the person I'm rping with, as such have been the limitations of games. There'll have to be a great many rooms though, since I think it could really be popular with the Lore staffs backing. On top of this please please create a quarter of the academy as being abandoned or disused, so that when not in lesson there's something for them to explore etc with the risk of punishment.

Thanks, the materials would be greatly appreciated. I hope for the college to teach mages with limited magical abilities due to their lack of training. So in general we would be teaching mages who are at least at the novice level or student level.

Yes I definitely want to include dorms. whether or not they are even in the same building (preferably in the same building). I do plan to create secret tunnels/buildings underneath the college that could be explored. I would also love to have ruins built nearby the college possibly. But my number one goal is to keep it complaint with lore; just waiting on a response from catcat... Maybe I should try contacting someone in game if I don't hear something from him in a week or so.

(Maybe a secret society? who knows, but my first priority is keeping it complaint with lore)

I would be interested in teaching light magic potentially, or at the very least attending. I have one character that could potentially mentor and one character idea I'd use as a student. The Mentor is mage level but is old enough to ascend higher if and when necessary.

Mentor approved character app: https://forums.massivecraft.com/threads/dax-d-aeterno.33848/
Possibly, I definitely want this form of magic to be taught here, due to the fact that light magic is one of the easiest magics to be approved by the Azure Order. But I think I want barrier light to be taught. Also unless your character is at the expert level then unfortunately your character wouldn't be able to teach. But if you have any other characters interested, make sure you apply when the college is open. :D

Hang on! Secret group! Hidden magic group operating beneath the college??

Do you have a location in mind? We probably can't have this in Regalia, but I'm suggesting the thing should be built on one of the more 'cultured' and Regalia-affected continents, like Ithania or Fendarfell.

I like the idea of building on a mountain in Jorrihld, but my second choice would be Teled because of the large elven ruins. But Ithania and Fendarfell are possibilities, but aren't they dying worlds?
