Etymology: The name 'Fristadvlom' consists of two words. 'Fristad' meaning 'sanctuary'. The other is 'vlom', which is actually supposed to be 'blom', meaning 'flower'.
Family Crest: An 8-petalled white and red flower with a deep purple feather and a Valsgärde sword behind it with an unraveling ribbon. Four petals on the crest signifies the 4 towers of the original Fristadvlom Fortress, while the 4 red petals signify the loss of those close to the family founder. The feather would be representative of the deep purple feather obtained by Carin Fristadvlom, which signifies destiny and birthright. The sword is the family heirloom. The unraveling wrapping is supposed to represent the family's duality in war and peace.
Family Heirlooms: The Bound Griffin Blade and the Cloak of Sanctuary
Motto: "Protect What Lies Beneath."
The interpretation of this quote could mean to say to protect the weak, to protect those below one's station, or to protect the land one is standing upon. Either way, various members of the family hold to different meanings of it.

House Fristadvlom began in the time of the near end of the Skagger Wars in 163 AC, when the family's founder, Carin Grysdotter av Fristadvlom reclaimed the fortress from traitors, who had ousted the clan and taken it for themselves. With Carin as head, they returned order within the settlement. In gratitude for their aid, the leader allowed Regalian soldiers to take up base in the fortress when needed. This willingness to work with them resulted to the Fristadvlom family's induction as a part of the Höglander culture once the Skagger War ended.
With ease, the family converted themselves to Unionism and began to adopt traditions and practices closer to the residents of Regalia. This was possible with the influence from the various Regalians, who had stayed during the war. The rough and yet tight-knit family refined themselves, wishing to assimilate into the empire. As no threats rose, the family concentrated on falconry and soon, forging and supplying weaponry from the resources of the mountains. However, the main source of their wealth would be in importing and exporting goods all over Aloria. Infatuated by the exotic goods overseas, the family invested in , establishing the Havsvind Trade Company. As a result of this concentration on businesses, the fortress part of the home estate was no longer needed. The four towers still stand, but the walls have crumbled and interlaced with plant life, giving the main manor an odd sense of mysticism. Nevertheless, they would find themselves in another battlefield. With the death of the Revain of Rikeland in 186 AC, the family joined the conflict to obtain the title and the position once held by him. The battle would be of espionage, lies, and the threat of death that would find the family. At times, even actual battle would emerge, Fristadvlom struggling to keep hold of its lands. Their jurisdiction then extended into the Griprede Mountains and the Elfenbensvit or 'Ivory Forest'. Originally, they simply wished to go about their business, but soon joined this war for control when other families sought to strike them down under the idea that House Fristadvlom was a threat. Over those years, the family would spend honing their skills in underhanded tactics and battles of wit, while also maintaining a strength in battle. Furthermore, the family gained better access to the East and its goods when Dagr Markusson av Fristadvlom married Ragna von Oosthoben, the heiress of a Calderligan merchant family. While House Fristadvlom flourished in their ventures, such peace could not so easily last.
During 305 AC, the Burning of the North occurred. While the region was largely left alone as it was not a part of Drixagh, House Fristadvlom had remained at a struggle to keep its lands and dignity. Yet, they could not rise any further from this time, they themselves becoming victim to the paranoia the Burning of the North could come for them one day.
To the luck of all, this period of civil strife would calm as two factions were created in 307 AC. House Fristadvlom decided to side with the Kerwolf Baronlands. With this calming time, they would be able to do as they did back in the Skagger Wars, supporting the empire during the war time through sending their own family members and aiding in the supply of weaponry.
Prior to recent years, the family had been a strong contender in the war for supremacy in Rikeland's aristocratic world and also, into one day gaining entry in Regalia's noble circles. However, this dwindled when the heir of the family, Elofarn Dagrsson av Fristadvlom, fell into obscurity and silence. The man was once a prospect to many, gaining the eyes of suitors when he first appeared in Regalia. To add, he had skills in persuading, having had experience haggling and bargaining with suppliers as well as fighting fiercely with fellow Höglanders.
While none of the other families know of what made Elofarn stricken with no drive or determination, this selfish action resulted to the decline of the family into obscurity.
In the recent times, the only daughter of Elofarn, spawned from a lover he had in his travels, emerged. Novellia Raesdotter av Fristadvlom accepted her claim to lead the family and became Acting Matriarch of House Fristadvlom. However, with hard work and presence, House Fristadvlom was elevated to the status of nobility by Imperial decree. Now, the family starts to work towards developing their homeland and ensuring both its protection and growth.
During the Winter of 307 AC, the Northern Rebellion rooted and grew in Drixagh. House Fristadvlom's efforts to keep out of the military conflict would bear ill fruit. With no way to fight back and military efforts against the rebellion failing, House Fristadvlom was requested by Northern peace terms to be ousted from the North. At the behest of the Lord Chancellor and with no other option, House Fristadvlom forfeited their lands and were relocated to former Anahera holdings acquired during the war between Vultaro and Anahera in the Southern Rebellion. For a time, staying in the province of Libertade.
Yet, in 308 AC, Fristadvlom and Reinard's merger during the Clicker Crisis would take place, resulting to another relocation to the Breizh land of Keval.
This is often a subject of much controversy, considering the Fristadvlom's leniency towards marriage with other cultures and races. However, those of 'purest blood' some call will have fair skin, blond hair and the sea blue eyes known as 'Gry's Gift', Gry being the mother to Carin, founder of the family. The reason it is called a 'gift' is simply for its shine similar to a crystalline sea. It is also of Gry's wish that flowers would bloom within the fortress, making her responsible for the naming of the family's homestead, Fristadvlom Fortress.
Considering the intermixing of races in the family, the child has a chance at either gaining both, one, or none of the Fristadvlom's appearance traits. To add, skin color has also varied, depending on parents.

❁ Holdings ❁
❂ Fristadvlom Fortress - The ancestral home to all family members. Located in Rikeland, it houses most of the family members known. It has history as being a place where Regalian soldiers would come for sanctuary and recuperation during the Skagger Wars. However, this is a disputed fact as the fortress, while being near the border of Upplanda and Calemberg, records have not been verified as to this claim.
❂ The Town of Åskanorr - While not owned by the Fristadvloms, it is noted to be under the care of the family. Many inhabitants of the town can trace their lineage back to the 'Falkhom', the Skagger clan of which the Fristadvloms became the leaders of. Notably, despite turmoil and hardship over the years, there maintains to be a strong bond between the family and the townspeople as both groups have continuously supported one another. With their technical clan leaders no longer residing in the fortress, some families have left to join them, while others have stayed to watch over the ancestral home for the day of they return, whether just to settle in once more or for other reasons.
❂ Frostvald Smithing - With materials from their mining company, the family have created a rather expansive smithing operation. However, these operations predate the mining business, as it originally was the fortress forge during the time the family first settled.
❂ Falkenhem Courier Service - With the family's skill in falconry, they've trained their birds to deliver parcels long distance by stopping at little intermediary holdings along the way. For special prices, they'll sell falcons, however, this is difficult as the birds will have to be accustomed to their new masters.
❂ Havsvind Merchant Company - As a result of Dagr and Ragna's bond and their previously mentioned businesses, the family were able to establish a merchant business. With connections to Calderligans, they've been able to benefit from Eastern trade.
❂ Castillo de Los Ramos - House Fristadvlom's former Libertade Residence. House Fristadvlom moved into the land to oversee the new state of Libertade. Since they no longer can truly return to their ancestral home with ease, the whole family, members young and old, moved into a new home in the region. The Castillo is a coastal castle that rests on raised land overlooking the sea. Beside it, there's a beach and the capital of the new state. After the merger, the family moved once more to a home in Keval- some even returning to the ancestral lands.
❂ Queenwall Townhouse Residence - In Regalia, the family has obtained a home for visiting members of the family. While sizable, inviting, and the location of the lodgings and offices for the family, it does not hold the grandeur of ordinary estates. Though, the decision to keep it was done to cut down expenses and maximize savings. It is currently home to some of the staff.
❂ Kadois Estate - The joint home of House Reinard and House Fristadvlom, it is located near the city and is noted for its architecture with the domes and the oval pond in the garden area. Most of the family members are housed here. Its wings are divided by family and in a way serve as a reflection to the union of the families.
Note: It is not actually a necessity at all to pick any of these family members listed. If you feel as if you wish to make your own, feel free to create a draft of your family member and sent it over to my discord.

❁ Carin Grysdotter av Fristadvlom
The Family Founder. Carin was the daughter of Acke and Gry, as well as the first head of House Fristadvlom. Some call Carin a traitor to the Skagger ways, while others praise Carin for having the strength and tact to side with the Regalian Empire and think of the welfare of the people under her watch. Though it is unknown who Carin would create the family with, their children Linnea, Karls, and Ake would continue the family, with Ake's being the main family line.
❁ Dagr Markusson av Fristadvlom
Former Patriarch. A Lord of Study and Battle. Dagr is old, but wise. He loves his family and in his retirement has been able to shed his tough skin and show love to all of his family members. He is a bear of a man, often a lover of books and debate. He's intimidating at first, but is known to appreciate jokes. He spends most of his time in the family study back in Fristadvlom Fortress, where it's filled to the brim with book and papers of his own studying. On rare occasion, he can be seen riding on horseback with his lance.
❁ Ragna von Oosthoben
Former Matriarch. Ragna is a notably strict woman, noted for once causing quite the blaze back in both Rikeland and Regalian social circles. Her fierce taunts and retorts paired well with Dagr's threatening and intimidating demeanor. She seems hard to please, but she is at ease when with her grandchildren. She is often to apologize to them for being harsh, saying she is still getting used to a life of peace. Also, contrary to popular belief, Ragna is actually Calderligan. It is because of this, the Fristadvloms have become successful in Eastern trade.
❁ Caj Markusson av Fristadvlom
Traitorous Spear. Caj was Dagr's older brother, who had been denied of his right to become the Head, when he had relations with an Isldar woman. He shared in Dagr's skills of both being a scholar and an able fighter, but despite these traits, he was still denied. This sparked the need for vengeance, resulting in him ruining Elofarn's escape from Dexai with his future wife. When his treachery was revealed, Dagr banished him from the family. Some say he was killed by a bear, some say he is still out there plotting his vengeance against the family that didn't treat him with the same leniency as the proceeding generations.
Parent Line
❁ Magnus Dagrsson av Fristadvlom (48) [Must Get Approval from Staff for Reverend Status]
The Just Holy Man. The first child of the family, Magnus swore himself to Unionism, entering the School of Sancella. Recently, he's been given the status of Reverend. While devout, he's never made it clear to the rest of his family members on his views on the half-Ailor. Despite this, he's rather warm to everyone, tending to be the one to stop most familial disputes. He's also a friend of Reverend Pawel Howede in Regalia.
❁ Cara Bushhalter (48)
Bookkeeper Saint. Cara is Magnus' Calderligan wife and often helps out with the finances of the family. She and Magnus married right after he finished his schooling. She is often contented, but does get stressed from time to time. She worries whether Magnus is spending too much time with work, but she herself is also a workaholic. It is because of this nature that she hasn't tried to lead her children to certain jobs or occupations, allowing them to make their choices.
❁ Elofarn Dagrsson av Fristadvlom (47)
The Dishonored Patriarch. The second child of the family, Elofarn seems to be a rather laid back character, often playful and nice. However, his family members know he is capable of playing the same game most Höglanders play against one another- a game of words, tricks, and espionage. He is rather tall and broad shouldered. Despite his kind outer actions, he is actually rather fearsome, being skilled at using spears and swords. In the current time, he's going about, ensuring affairs are eased and cleaned for the sake of his daughter's rise in the future.
❁ Rae-Ksai Feng Sai De (Pastoria) (46)
The Fallen Songstress. Elofarn's wife and the only woman he ever loved, Rae-Ksai was the daughter of a Sihai family of Imperial Administrators in Dexai. As the result of a scheme by Caj, uncle and adviser to Elofarn, the pair were tricked into going into two different boats when they escaped. Unfortunately, before they could ever reunite, Rae-Ksai was killed by unknown assailants at the Halystria Estate in Ithania, where she and her daughter ended up.
❁ Runa Ragnasdotter av Fristadvlom (45)
Lady of the Blade. Runa is the third child. Her branch of the family goes for soldier and mercenary work. She is no fan of the court and chose to leave it immediately when she found a suitable partner. She has dedicated her life to the military, spending some years in the army. However, she's now at the head of a mercenary group, while also trying to aid others. She's cool-headed and blunt.
❁ Wulf Alfsund (48)
The Bookman of the North. Wulf is husband to Runa and he was chosen by her during her time at an aristocratic gathering. While seemingly quiet and unmoved, he is often found studying and reading on battle tactics and medicine. He knows how to fight and this surprising trait of his is what attracted Runa to the Velheimer. He does show some affection, though only a little and only to those in his family unit.
❁ Lars Dagrsson av Fristadvlom (43)
Man of Reaching Beyond. Lars is the fourth child. His eyes look to the Regalian Court, seeking to have at least his branch of the family gain contact into it. He is not as easy going as the rest of his brothers. He also shows disgust at his family's leniency with half-races. He's cunning, but at the same time, will not refrain from blunt insults if seen necessary.
❁ Mariote Castelleane (40)
Beloved Night Flower. Mariote is Lars' wife and a woman, who shines brightest, despite circumstance. She is loving and yet is incredibly secretive. She is often noted for her peculiarities of hiding certain items around the house and as well as staring out the window. Either way, she is often found well-dressed and walking about where flowers are. Yet one thing is for certain, she is rather proficient in sciences and knowledge on flora and fauna. She also acts as the family medic at Fristadvlom Fortress with a small apothecary of her own.
❁ Folke Dagrsson av Fristadvlom (42)
Unfortunate Casualty. Folke is the fifth child, who was a master at falconry. He used to travel with Elofarn on merchant trips and this is how Folke met his foreign wife. After years of peace together, Folke met his end at the hands of someone, but as to who it is unknown. Though, speculation says it may have been one of the various high class families of Rikeland.
❁ Fu'ie Kun'ha-Fe (45)
Lady of the Falcons. Folke's Sihai wife, who he met on the wildest of journeys, Fu'ie made him smitten with her as they journeyed together to find treasures for a historical society of which she was a part of. She is often strong and an incredible go-getter. She is notably great with falcons, having taught Folke and the rest of the family the techniques, increasing the family's skill further. Even with her strength, she has doubts at times, especially when it comes to her husband's death. She blames herself for the tragedy, despite the words of those who care for her.
❁ Holden Leo Soliseum (90) [Cadet Family Member] {@MrHasagi}
Lasting Guardian. Holden is the sixth 'child'. Dagr found him fighting at a coliseum and decided to adopt him into the family. While he is Altalar, he is still considered an integral part of the family. Often, he would go on merchant trips with Elofarn, who picked him out and told Dagr to make him his brother. Holden is often intimidating. He doesn't carry the family's last name, since customs ban him from such. He is often treated as part of the family. Because of his descent, he is not an official named member of the family, but will carry the banner in times of war and of good acts for the Regalian Empire.
❁ Nea Dagrsson av Fristadvlom (26)
Disinterested Swordsmith. Nea is the seventh child. He has no interest in gaining Elofarn's position. Rather, he's more interested in maintaining the weaponry business of the family. He tends to be a rather tired individual. He lights up at the mention of weapons or making particularly unique ones. Another note is- He's adopted, being the only brother with dark hair and being of such a young age.

After finding out about her in the empire, he gifted her with the family birthright. The problem is she is conflicted and unsure of her position. The beginnings of the house date back to the time during the Skagger Wars. As various clans and tribes arose, one called 'Falkhom' would be created with what is known to be around 20 families, according to the old accounts of the oldest recorded Fristadvlom ancestor- a young boy by the name of 'Acke', who was actually an orphan in the area. He notably was given his name when he was found by Berit. However, it is noted that it is his child, who is claimed to be the 'true first Fristadvlom'. The clan was created by a woman by the name of Berit, who was expelled from another clan. She gained her own family by accepting whoever needed a family unit to come to. This included Acke. After this, more families would join and amount to the number in the account. Yet, despite the strength they had. They would find it troublesome growing their forces, sustaining, and commanding them with how large the group became. Though, Berit would utilize battle tactics that involved the use of what is speculated to be a Ceardian Long Talon, whistling, and yells to send attack orders- This would become tiresome. Already, this family didn't quite follow the Skagger ways, creating doubt within the group. The previous 20 would dwindle into 16 as the group stagnated with Berit's neglect to satisfy the craving for battle, the need for more power in the group, and other reasons.
After a month, Berit would leave her tent with an ultimatum to the remaining families: To come with her and find a permanent home or to continue to follow their Skagger traditions. Argument would rise between the families and soon enough, all would agree, some begrudgingly. They would journey for months until they came across what would be first Fristadvlom Fortress, which Berit had named after her daughter Gry's wish to have a flower garden within the walls, despite the climate.
Over the years, the clan built their home out of remnants of a Wirtemcaller fortress, protecting it and soon, rebuilding it. Yet of the portions to rebuild, the four towers were not of them, having in some way stayed mostly intact. Whatever history lies with the fortress is unknown or some say it has been found, but has been kept secret by the family. In this time, Acke would become of age and marry Gry, a young lady who still dreamed of flowers and of peace. Their friends would also marry, one such couple being Lief and Frida. Life would be normal for all of the members of the Falkhom. Berit would grow older and the Fortress would remain standing as they would fend off their fellow Horde and try to show neutrality to the Regalians that came by.
Acke and Gry would have a daughter by the name of 'Carin'. She was said to have the family's characteristic sea blue eyes, derived from Gry, and blond hair gained from Acke. The child had various friends, including the children of Lief and Frida, Fritjof and Asta. Peace prevailed over the lands until a time when Carin was 14.
Fires would be set upon the fortress one night, luring out all of the people as no one could combat the blaze. During this time, Carin had gotten lost after chasing after what she believed to be a griffin, though it is unclear if it truly was. However, Carin would gain a deep purple feather dropped by it. She returned and became a witness as everyone was outside. Before joining them, she would watch arrows fly as Frida whistled. Lief went to attack Berit, only to cut down Acke instead. Chaos would be unleashed. The families scrambled, unsure who was friend or foe. In Carin's journal, it is noted that she watched friends and family perish in the attack. In the end of it all, the fledgling members of 8 families would escape the chaos. Berit and Gry would also manage to escape. Fritjof and Asta would stand by their mother. With the bloodshed clearing, it would be revealed that Lief and Frida, along with 2 of the other families and another clan had conspired together. To make matters worse, a troop of Regalian soldiers were also in on their plan and soon enough, they aided in the capture of the fortress and the slaughter of 6 families of people, including their extended family. This did not take into account the outsiders they took in.
Without other options, the remaining of the Falkhom would run into the mountains until they were safe. In these coming times, suffering befell the innocents. Many were injured, starving, and tired. Carin was not safe from pain, grieving over the loss of her father.
Another 6 years would pass. Carin, at the age of 20, found themselves alone. She had left the clan recently and without no word in search of one thing- Their father's sword. She returned to Fristadvlom Fortress, infiltrating it. While they would find the sword, it would lead to a consequence. Carin found themselves against Fritjof and Asta. They would injure Carin as she ran, but in turn, Carin would scar Fritjof. After managing an escape, this would result to Carin finding an injured Regalian soldier. No records remain of the name of the soldier, even in Carin's journal where the ancestor writes about her fondness over the man. Carin expresses actual romantic feelings for the soldier and while feelings were returned, they would never fully be acted upon. The two would return to the Falkhom, where they would both heal. It was at this time that Carin would grow the aforementioned bond. She understood that the soldier was not evil and that not all of the Regalians were the same with those that sided with Lief and Frida. Soon enough, Carin would learn how to fight from the soldier, further growing their relations and the skills Carin had. Nevertheless, as the Falkhom had returned in number and had improved their skills, this did not guarantee their victory at Fristadvlom.
Instead, the charge would be a crushing blow. Berit, who planned the assault, was outsmarted by Fritjof, who was once her pupil. Half the force perished. Berit would fall and Carin's childhood friend, Kennet would also become a casualty. Gry was captured. Taking the reins, Carin ordered a retreat, using herself as bait to help their own. This time she'd be shot down by an arrow.
A soldier would find her, unconscious. Then, he would bring with him to his troop. He collected the remaining of the Falkhom to join them. This time of healing and preparation was when Carin learned what they wanted most and also, the most difficult of times. The group lived with the soldiers, being taught tactics and combat. It was a question to many why they'd invest time in this group, but it came to light. The troop of Regalian soldiers that helped Lief and Frida had defected, becoming a part of their little kingdom. The troop of Carin's soldier friend aimed to impart justice on the troops for their betrayal of the Empire and the Imperial Family. The soldiers and Falkhom combined forces. During this time as well, the sword of Acke was rebuilt and imbued with the magic of the griffin feather, soon given the name 'The Griffin Blade'. With this came an event that violated the beliefs of the Skaggers. Carin and the Falkhom swore their loyalty and strength to the Regalian Empire.
The final battle of this whole ordeal would be something of great proportions. With the use of magic and weaponry, the 4 towers of Fristadvlom fell. Panic would rise and while troops left the walls, they would find no one outside. Climbing up the wall and through the mine system underneath the fort, they would infiltrate and inflict their vengeance upon them. It is known that Lief was nowhere to be seen. Frida would perish alongside Gry, who shoved Frida and herself into the flames to protect Carin. With her soldier friend, Carin would capture both Fritjof and Asta- and soon, free Fristadvlom. Rising to the highest point left on the fortifications, Carin raised up her sword, one infused with the griffin feather, invoking their right to be the holder and heir of Fristadvlom. This is also, when it was announced that Carin would adopt the name of the fortress as their own, passing it down for generations to come.
After this battle, Fristadvlom would be rebuilt and used as both Carin and the Falkhom's home, as well as a base during the last remaining years of the Skagger Wars. It is uncertain who Carin made spawn with, but speculation singles out either Fritjof or the soldier. Yet after that, there are no remaining records of Fritjof or the soldier. The soldier and the troop he was in would all return to Regalia. It is said that as Fristadvlom was being restored, white flowers bloomed in the courtyard, thus becoming the symbol of the family for generations to come. Because Carin had finished her service to their family and to the Regalian Empire, the Griffin Blade was bound with white ribbon, of which that could only be unraveled in times the family must enact the orders of the Emperor or of anyone of high respect and standing that earned their trust and honor.

❂ Åskanorr Mining - A business born from the end of the Skagger Wars, the Fristadvloms gained mountain areas to begin mining for the various resources available in the North. Åskanorr is also the name of the hometown area where Fortress Fristadvlom is located.❂ Frostvald Smithing - With materials from their mining company, the family have created a rather expansive smithing operation.
❁ Regalia Holdings❁

❁ Holden Leo Soliseum (90) [Cadet Family Member] {@MrHasagi}

❁ Heirloom Facts
➺ Legend has it that it was built upon the site of a Wirtemcaller fortress and that the four towers were a part of the original structure.
➺ History and artifacts that would have been in the fortress from the era of the Wirtemcaller Kingdom are said to be long lost, but some believe it to be a story fabricated by the Fristadvloms to protect the treasures they found.
➺ Tales say that aside from the two already existing and known heirlooms, there is a third, one that ties in to the Wirtemcaller Kingdom. Alternatively, some say either of the two heirlooms could have been items from the era, but there is uncertainty.
➺ White flowers are said to grow in the courtyard of the fortress, even in Winter. Finding one in the snow is said to grant good fortune and strength.
➺ The Bound Griffin Blade - A Valsgärde sword that originally belonged to Acke, father to the family founder Carin Fristadvlom. Notably, no one has seen the actual blade as it remains bound in its red-brown scabbard with white ribbons ensuring no one else can open it. The story goes that only someone of higher standing at the right time is the only one who can unbound the blade. However, whoever is to do this has gained the family's pledge of service.
➺ The Cloak of Sanctuary - A cloak of unspecified material passed down through the generations. It's worn by family members as a 'statement piece' to some. To much surprise, it is actually rather durable. Stories tell that various family heads have been saved from lethal arrows or daggers to the back, because of the thickness of the material.

In-Depth Family Origin
