Starting on the 1st of March and ending on the 7th, the first week of March is a time of immense significance to the Daendroque community throughout Aloria, including Daen-kind who reside within the Crown City. Throughout this week, we celebrate Semana de Libertad (Week of Freedom), a week which signifies our struggle and emancipation from slavery. It demarcates a period in which Daen-kind threw off the chains of slavery and set about their complete liberation from the Allorn Empire.
It cannot be stressed more that this Semana de Libertad is perhaps one of the most pivotal in recent history. Despite proclamations from the Nelfin Foreign Affairs Minister, whose words did nothing but mislead the public, the threat of slavery and the annexation of Daenshore by this re-born Allorn Empire is ever real. The Second Allorn Empire lays claim to all of its ancient lands, which, under all circumstances, would include Daenshore.
If the Allorn Empire possessed no interest in annexing Daenshore, it begs the question why the Nelfin in the position of Reeve would openly support the Allorn Empire's claim on Daenshore. In the Noble Assembly no less. The Reeve's own words in the Noble Assembly contradict the dictum from the Foreign Affairs Ministry, which only confirms that we, as Daen-kind, must be vigilant of those claiming to preach us the truth.
While we can of course be jovial and celebrate this Semana de Libertad, we as Daen-kind must stay sharp and recognise the threat that is posed against our people and our motherland. Naturally, it is a time to party, but it must also be a time for reflection. We must reflect on the efforts of our ancestors, who toiled for the freedom we have today. We must reflect on our brothers and sisters in Daenshore, whose freedom is now being openly challenged by the Nelfin. Should we sit by and watch our people be enslaved wholesale, the graves of our ancestors will be toiling unendingly.
Recent days have been a wake-up call for not only me, but many other residents in the Daendroque District. Anti-Daen sentiment is rife, clearly evident in a hate-crime committed against the El Gustazo today, a Daendroque-owned small business. I do not believe it was any coincidence that this attempted arson and vandalism occurred on the first day of Semana de Libertard. However, it would be wrong of us to close the restaurant in fear of more racially-motivated attacks on our people during this significant period. Instead, we intend on repairing the damage of the attempted arson and serve free alcoholic beverages this week to all those who come by.
I wish everyone a safe and happy Semana de Libertad, Week of Freedom.
In Solidarity,
