Amen to that. I agree mostly, though there are some forms of 'duel wielding' which are kinda easy. As has been state before, most duel wielding is really just using one blade to strike, and one to deflect/block/catch. In this style, its really easy (I should say relatively easy) because you are really focusing on one blade at a time, either striking or blocking, and switching to the other when needed. Fighters of this style can switching almost instantly, as they also have variable fighting patterns learned so they can make it even easier for them by using muscle memory to shift focus. In most instances, fighters who are shifting focus rather than trying to focus on both generally do better (in my SCA experience), so in addition to being easier to pull off it seems to be more effective. That's just my two cents on the matter, so feel free to disagree.
@LordSylveon that is the case because of our human limitations. If we could have more coordination over our bodies, we could pull off amazing things with dual wielding. But elves can probably pull it off both at the same time. So fantasy is interesting.

I suppose but you'd probably have a better time just taking the bit off and using the stick as a staff since you would have to remount the blade anyway. Scythes were designed to cut grasses, so they're not really substantial enough to get through thick clothing, let alone armor.

@Mycin_Alchemist

Just a note on previous comment, I'm fairly sure that it was a legal requirement in the late medieval period in England that every man between a certain age had to own weapons like swords or bows and stuff. I have to look up the specifics again, but yeah.
@Xskill bows. Every healthy man had to own a bow. It was cultural, not exactly by law.
Also going through armour? Forget about it starting from mail. Maybe you can attack a few exposed parts, which the guy is aware of and is covering them at all costs. But generally, blunt for armour. Except maybe gambeson, the best way to pierce gambeson is javelins/spears/polearms. Stabby stabby, not cutting, unless you have a sword that's so sharp, it's not practical. Like razor sharp. (which is all sorts of awkward for a sword, and will be lost after a few hits) As for mail, a lance on horseback will do the job if you really want to pierce it. You won't we able to pierce plate, but you can dent it with blunt weapons. Or break bones underneath with them.

@DoopsiPooP Gamer this thread is nearly six years old and the guy that you are replying to hasn't been on in fourteen weeks.
@Spookmas wasn't exactly pointed towards the person, general cleansing of possible misinformation.
I'm sure they're a great person, but swords are sharp. (except rapiers)
Not just sharp, but also thin. A katana is like 4mm thick, and is considered a very thick blade.
A longsword starts from around 4mm at the bottom, and goes down to about 2mm thin towards the tip. It's actually hard to see the blade when the edge is facing you.

I wasn't disagreeing with what you said I just said that the thread is very old and this is considered necroing a thread, if you want to talk about blades to people on the forums then make a new fresh thread about it or something

¯\_(ツ)_/¯
