I feel that a huge amount of the player base is waiting on 1.13/1.14 server. We all want to play with the latest features of minecraft and if we keep waiting to update we will attract less and less new players.

While I personally am not waiting on a server update, I do agree that the longer the server stays out of date the less relevant the server will become. For example, if I was still an avid MC player like I was 2-3 years ago, I'd be thoroughly annoyed by having to switch back and forth between versions to play on Massive- which was something that I did have to do for a while- after playing on an updated server.

I understand it'd be taxing on the tech department and is more than likely already underway, but after seeing the drop in playerbase in the past few months, regardless of the usual end of summer drop and the dissuasion from roleplaying due to the change of Regalias, this is becoming an increasingly needed change.

Also I'm pretty sure this is the first time I've responded to a thread in months. Welp

But in all seriousness, I would personally prefer sharding/new development over 1.13/14. I don't really think they add a ton that would affect massive, especially without new worlds, and think less lag and new content relating to factions would be more beneficial at the moment.

I mean i want to say that its always been planned but mojaven, its gonna happen some point so i don think there is reason to rush it

1.12 until forge is updated

pretty sure badlion client doesent have a 1.13 version. Lots of pvpers use it so massive would just kill its community even further if we updated lmao

It doesn't have to be immediately.

From what I have heard, Sharding is taking priority, so by the time Sharding is good to go, most of the Mods, Clients, Etc will already be at 1.13 at the least. Once we get over the 1.13 hurdle with plugin updates, then moving from 1.13 to 1.14 will be easier.

I wouldn't be shocked if we went straight from 1.12.2 to 1.14 to be honest.

The only thing I've got to add: We would need a plugin to nerf Crossbows so you can't leave them in your hotbar pre-loaded.

Not trying to be a dick, but I think you severely overestimate how many factions players are PvPers

Hurdle?

According to the home page, there are over "30 custom plugins" that have been created for Massive. That's 30 plugins that need their code updated and need to be tested to make sure that they don't break the server. That's a lot of Tech work. Furthermore, I see little evidence to suggest that updating to 1.13/14 will increase the player count or retention by the amount that people think it will. In my opinion, Tech time is far better spent on implementations that players want to the existing server, like dungeons, events, or Empires.

As much work as it is, we are going to update. We always do. Even when those updates have been so controversial they split minecraft in half, Massive tends to stay as up to date as possible. Its not an IF its a WHEN.

As interesting 1.13 and 1.14 are, they are hugely technical updates and the server still has to take the leap back towards sharding. Once that is done, a focus of efforts would most likely be on 1.13 and 1.14 but I personally would prefer to see more work done on gameplay elements, *cough* Faction Empires *cough*, and see if some of the features of the plugin could be implemented. I believe staff should focus on continuing their player retention (which has improved :D) and then improving the gameplay overall, rather than taking the jump to new versions.

You can apply the phrase you need to learn to walk, before you can run. MassiveCraft needs to get gameplay on older versions working and then upgrade.

I'm not saying that it'll never happen, I'm saying that there are simply more important things for Tech to do than updating.

True. Sharding is nearing completion from what I have heard though, Dungeons will mostly involve in game sets and MassiveMobs presumably, and Empires has to be built from scratch so building it in the newest version vs building it in an old version and having to update it instantly is better anyway. I doubt it will be later than February before we are in 1.13 or 1.14.
