DUKE ALASTAIR MAC CONALL: THE REGALIAN NATIONAL COALITION'S POPULAR CHOICE

The Mac Conall family is one recently ennobled, but they've made a name for themself with their devotion and dedication to the Empire. With the election upcoming, Duke Alastair Mac Conall took time from his schedule to answer a few of our questions.
WHY DON'T YOU START BY TELLING ME A LITTLE ABOUT YOURSELF? THE PEOPLE DESERVE TO KNOW WHO'S LEADING THEM IN TIMES OF WAR.
I was born twenty five years ago in my family's then modest estate of Dundarne. I was the son of a General and an Anglian Aristocrat, I was brought up in the Highlander culture and Unionist-Ceardian Faith.
At the age of six I set out as the squire to a Bloodcast knight and former cavalry commander of the Regalian Army. We went all over the Archipelago and even spent time in Ithania. I than came to this city to study at the School of Marshalry. At this time I also received an education in Diplomacy, Economics and Administration.
My family ascended to the Regalian Aristocracy and I became a student of William Howlester and many other brilliant Tutors courtesy of the Regalian University. On the outbreak of the Sendrass war my father stepped down from the position he achieved as a Duke of the Empire and Patriarch of our family. Leaving me to take his place as he fought the war.
And now here I am. Bloodcast Knight, Military Strategist, Economist and Duke of Dundarne, with enough titles to retire on to be honest.
EXCEPT NOW YOU'VE SET YOUR EYE ON THE CHANCELLERY. WHY?
Currently we stand on the cliff edge. We need a strong decisive leader to keep the empire not only surviving but thriving. I originally didn't want to run for Chancellor however I was convinced by a not insignificant amount of my peers to run.
While inexperienced I intend to surround myself with competence and experience. To be honest, I'm running because Regalia needs strong leadership and I can provide that.
WHAT MAKES YOU STRONG, DUKE? STRONG ENOUGH TO BEAR ALL THAT WEIGHT ON YOUR SHOULDERS.
My supporters and my willpower are what make me strong. I'm no stranger to hard decisions but I will make them. I have people I can rely on who are competent and most importantly.
I have the vigor of youth and the willpower to continue on. If worst comes to worst, I will do what is needed.
WHAT ARE THE BIGGEST PROBLEMS YOU SEE FACING THE REGALIAN PEOPLE?
[T]here are two, the biggest internal problem is how fractured and disunited the empire is. This has been caused by successive chancelleries only focusing on the city of regalia and the archipelago.
While seeming to forget the subject states, and other parts of the empire. Why the colonies in New Ceardia are still a mess after the bone horror crisis.
The biggest exterior threat to the empire is the current war in Sendrass and the re-emergence of the Allorn Empire. We have to be prepared to stand against these threats.
ARE YOU A DIPLOMATIC MAN, OR WILL YOU RESORT TO WAR LIKE YOUR FOREFATHERS BEFORE YOU? THERE ARE A NUMBER OF LOGISTICAL AND SOCIAL PROBLEMS THAT MUST BE OVERCOME, BUT THEY WON'T RECEIVE ATTENTION SHOULD THE EMPIRE RETURN TO THE WARFRONT AGAIN.
One of my first goals will be ending the current war in Hadar. However we must be prepared for when war comes to our shores. I will not be actively declaring war on the allorn empire as many say I will. I do not want war.
But the truth of the matter is I do see it as a when not an If. And I want to be ready for when they do come to our shores.
At the end of the day, the best offence is a good defense, and we must defend our subject states and our empire. Lest we face ruin and despair.
HOW DO YOU PLAN TO ASSIST STATES LIKE ITHANIA AND THE BREIZH? THE FORMER ARE DEALING WITH UPRISING ALTALAR, AND THE LATTER INSTABILITY AS THEIR PEOPLE ARE CONSTANTLY DRAFTED INTO WAR.
Sadly it isn't a chancellors prerogative to be directly involved with such. As chancellor you can only guide, you cannot get directly involved as it would be a gross misuse of power. The type not seen Andriue Anahera.
However for the Breizh I would speak with the Dukes on how they and their people feel and provide funding for economic investment in the region. As for Ithania, offering them support will require me to get a more in-depth view of the situation, and for that I would need access to the information the Chancellor is privy to.
DO YOU PLAN TO CONTINUE FUNDING INITIATIVES HERE IN REGALIA? THE ALMS MINISTRY IS A PERMANENT FIXTURE, BUT MAYBE YOU SEE OTHER OPPORTUNITIES FOR ADVANCEMENT.
There are numerous opportunities for advancement not only in the city but in the empire as a whole. City wise I intend to bring in an Alchemy Regulation body to look into the law and make the city a safer place overall.
Education is another big issue of mine, I want to work closely with the Regalian university which has just entered its second term. I want to help them and other educational bodies expand, and I want to help businesses in the city to expand and bring overall prosperity.
How feasible all of this is I do not yet know. Again I'm not privy to all the information I need to be in order to truly realize what I can do. But this is what I hope to do and I intend to make ministries and legislation to make it so.
FLORENCE AMAYA: REPRESENTATIVE OF THE DAEN PEOPLE

Florence Amaya is a man known to the people because of his convictions and connections to both his extended family and certain elements in the city. Not a day goes by where he doesn't attempt to further his goals in whatever ways he's capable of, no matter how minor. That said, he had more than a few words to share with us.
WHO ARE YOU?
I am a free man, above all else. My freedom, and my parent's freedom, is the reason that I can refer to myself according to a name of my choosing: Florence Amaya. A luxury that was not afforded to my enslaved ancestors. And yes, I did choose that name.
WHY ARE YOU RUNNING FOR THE CHANCELLERY? IT HAS BEEN, FOR A LONG TIME NOW, A POSITION HELD ALMOST EXCLUSIVELY NOBILITY.
Do you remember when I said I chose my name? That was an important detail. You see, my mother was Apollonia Tzavaras, and I was born a bastard child of Atilio Amaya. Both my father and mother were nobility, with the Amayas in Girobalda and the Tzavaras in Hellatia. I am running, though, as a commoner, because despite my lineage, I hold no titles. I believe this makes me a perfect mediator between the nobility and the common masses.
DO YOU SEEK TO REPRESENT ONLY THE DAEN, OR COMMONERS AS WHOLE? YOU HAVE A REPUTATION FOR BEING SINGULARLY FOCUSED ON YOUR HERITAGE.
The current Lord Chancellor already created the /start/ of a good system for governor representation. I won't be representing any particular culture or social class, but as the Chancellor, my duty will be to represent the Empire as a whole.
Yes, I do have a unique perspective due to my Knighthood and pedigree, but I believe that the Daen struggle for freedom is something that all Ailor can sympathize with. You see, for every enslaved Ailor in the Allorn Empire, there was one family somewhere else that lost a father, a mother, a sibling, or a child. Including the Regalian Archipelago. Many Regalians were enslaved and taken to Daen against their will, where they became the Daendroque over time.
WHAT OF THE SLAVES ON DAENDROQUE PLANTATIONS? ARE THEY NOT CITIZENS IN THEIR OWN RIGHT, DESERVING OF THAT SAME FREEDOM AND OPPORTUNITY NOW AFFORDED TO YOU?
I realize that there is a lot of confusion regarding my stance on slavery. Many are quick to call the Daendroque hypocrites for idealizing freedom and keeping slaves on their plantations. The truth is, those slaves as a regrettable economic necessity of Daenshore, which is going through an economic depression. When many slaves were released by Emperor Alexander's Humanum legislation, the economy collapsed.
So, as Chancellor, I will be working to emancipate the Daenshore slaves following a transitionary period that will see Daenshore no longer require the use of slave labor. For every slave working on a field, there is one unemployed Daendroque man who has no wage with which to buy bread for his family.
REGALIA IS ENTERING A PERIOD OF DEFICIT DUE TO THE WAR AND THE CREATION OF SEVERAL MINISTRIES AND INITIATIVES. WHAT WILL YOU DO, IF ANYTHING, TO RIGHT OUR ECONOMIC PATH?
Consider me a libertarian. As a proud Daendroque man, I value freedom. Instead of increasing taxes, more political power will be delegated to local lords and governors for them to freely address their own issues with their own budgets.
Redundant ministries will have their sizes decreased or stripped entirely, and we will transition towards the creation of ad-hoc offices on a need-basis. Similar offices will be combined into one. Of course, the central government will still exist to enforce federal statutes and provide financial aid to the lords and governors that need it to address their own local issues.
THE EMPIRE IS ON THE EDGE OF CONFLICT WITH THE NEWLY REFORMED ALLORN EMPIRE. THE ITHANIAN IS DEALING WITH DISSENTING NELFIN. ON THE OTHER HAND, THE BREIZH, WHO SUPPLY A NOT INSIGNIFICANT PORTION OF OUR MILITARY, ARE SUFFERING PROBLEMS AS THEY'RE PULLED TO THE WARFRONT. HOW DO YOU PLAN TO TACKLE ISSUES LIKE THESE?
I once proposed that non first civil status citizens be allowed the opportunity to buy higher ranks of citizenship. I believe this will raise funds. However, the same program can be extended to people who sign up for the war effort.
I said that the Daen city-states are too weak to fight on their own, so I plan to work closely with the Regalian military. I am already working on various intelligence missions, but it would be unwise for me to discuss war strategy with you. If it is made public, the Second Allorn Empire could read my plans and prepare for them. We'd lose the element of surprise. But be reassured: I will defend my people of Daen.

[Y]OU'RE A MONZON, AND MONZON ARE KNOWN WELL TO DO ANYTHING FOR MONEY. F YOU ARE BY CODE MEANT TO DO ANYTHING IF COIN IS OFFERED COULD THIS NOT LEAD TO CORRUPTION IN YOUR CHANCELLERY?
I already answered this question at the common's meeting, but I'll answer it again because it seems that people insist on pushing false ideas of what it means to be a Monzon. We cannot turn down a mission if we are offered gold, but these missions extend only to official Knight-work.
Ruling as a Chancellor is not Knight-work. If ever the Assembly believes I am behaving corruptly, they may impeach me just as easily as they elected me. It's true that I still value a healthy financial situation, but I think this philosophy will only make it easier for me to make Regalia a richer place.
YOU MENTIONED SLAVERY BUT ONLY IN REGARDS TO DAENSHORE, RIGHT? WHAT OF THE SLAVES HELD BY SZABADOK HORDES AROUND THE ARCHIPELAGO OR SLAVING ENSUED BY THE VELHEIMERS?
Like I said, there will be a transitionary period in order to make sure that when slaves are emancipated, there won't be a negative economic impact as a consequence.
I will convene an Assembly on the definition of slavery so that all cultures are heard fairly. Then I will start a Commission for Emancipation. Based on the Commission's report, we may begin to transition towards total emancipation according to the Assembly's definition.
ABIGAIL TUCKER: JESTRESS AND SILVEN OF GLEE

Currently, Abigail Tucker is a serving member of the Crookback Council and Court Mage to House Reinard. This said, her name is not one that would come to mind for anyone in the political sphere—but it is one of minor fame within Daenshore and the towns and cities the Silven has touched with her presence. She's a born entertainer, putting her skills to use to quell insurrection and inspire the citizens of those provinces she's been allowed to visit.
Unfortunately, we were unable to get ahold of Council Member Tucker and arrange an interview, but we were able to correspond by mail. This is what she sent back.
POLICIES
Anti-War
The Regalian Empire should avoid war with the Allorn Empire and crush the Sendrassians quickly.
• Friendly state, not warring state.
• War is boring, having friends is better.
Pro-Ailor
Daenshore belongs to Ailor now and should remain in Ailor hands. Foreign Affairs should always be conducted with Ailor first in mind.

More festivals, more brothels, more parties, more fun.

If somebody serves the Empire well, they deserve to be compensated more for it.

Brutalizing people who serve a use or are funny because they look different isn't cool.

A melding of cultures in Regalia is good.
Against Noble Honneurs
Too restrictive. Commoners and Nobles should be separate, but Nobles should not have to be pompous all the time.[/SPOILER]
DUKE MARKUS DELMOTTE: LIKE FATHER LIKE SON

Duke Markus Delmotte carries his father's legacy and ideals as patriarch of House Delmotte. It only makes sense that he would also run for the Chancellery, and while he couldn't be reached for comment his accomplishments and service history should offer some insight into how he'd fare should he be allowed to lead.
MILITARY SERVICE RECORD
Duke Delmotte currently serves as a Field General in the Regalian Military. House Delmotte's participation in conflicts has been absolutely critical in settling them, with Duke Delmotte himself entering the front lines and rallying his troops to victory. With his family's interest in trades and commerce unexplored by the other houses, it's expected that Delmotte will have some interest in developing the Empire's military and technological capabilities.
MINISTERIAL WORK
Duke Delmotte, despite House Delmotte's close relationship to the Imperial Court and House Kade, used his position as Minister of Finance to funnel Crown regals into his own initiatives. His pay was subsequently docked by His Imperial Holiness, and the position vacated. Sums of this money can be traced back to the Crown, indicating past transgressions have been learned from and repaid.
After this, Duke Delmotte assumed the role of Arcane Minister for a term of two weeks due to Reimar von Falkenreich's (then Typhonus) position as Grand Marshal, then resigned. To date he's held no other Court or Ministerial position the Sunday Scratch is aware of.
However, House Delmotte has represented the Foreign Ministry as a dignitary, and assisted their efforts in Ithania.
DUKE AUGUSTIN REINARD: THE BARLOWE FOX

The Reinards are quiet and their policies inoffensive. Despite the family's long history there is nearly nothing of note about them, no significant scandal, and hardly any conflicts that have brought them into the public eye save one—their continued contests and squabbles with Count Hengest Harhold and his kin. It was a war against the Hound Lord that saw the Reinard's rising again, and this fight for the Chancellery is simply another in a series of battles Duke Reinard must win.
The Duke Reinard is a calculating man, and while he may not be known for his actions in the way his contemporaries might, his moral behavior and willingness to lay flat the problems presented to him is a skill most valuable. He is, if not transparent, capable and able to correct even his own family, and if he is capable of this it's unlikely corruption would be allowed to exist within his cabinet.
However, the Duke's reluctance to answer questions and claims in the moment could be considered avoidance. A clever diversionary tactic in order to buy time to think of some better solution or line of dialogue, but even if that were the case no one can deny the benefits of having ample ammunition to use against one's opponents.
So, we've a man who waits until the most opportune time pitted against those who threw their hats in the ring for the heck of it.
DUKE HENGEST HARHOLD: THE HOUND LORD

The Hound Lord is a man with a heavy hand having served once as the long arm of the law. At odds with this are his continued appearances in court, and the many occasions in which he has kept both title and wit about him despite these repeated legal shortcomings. Of course, this is simply proof that nothing can keep the Duke of Vlissinghelm down.
Duke Hengest is known for his attitude and spirit, his hounds and his people, and more notably his aptitude for winning engagements no other man could. He is at his best on the battlefield, whether that's spittle filled yelling matches or peasant levies pitted against each other. He navigates political space as though it's a battle to be won, and perhaps that fire will see him assuming the position of Lord Chancellor this coming Saturday.
