Hello! So, Im sure most people probably remember a few months ago, right before the Lo Crisis began, a new forum section was added, called the "Noble Rumor Court", where players could anonymously submit rumors.

Personally, I mostly enjoyed this system, as it had a very "Wheel of Time" feel to it- mainly because of how Robert Jordan focused on rumors and both how the characters affected then, and how they affected the characters. It was an interesting concept that had a lot of potential in my opinion... But of course, that section does not exist now, due to minor salt generation, and how memey it became with the constant spam of "ground up ___ from a ___ will do ___ if eaten!" ETC trash rumors.

In short, my suggestion is a reimplementation of this system, maybe using a separate admin account made specifically for the rumor section, maybe named "Gossiper" or something. The system would essentially work the same, with a name change and stricter regulations.

Firstly, it would simply be named "Rumors" , to remove the implication or ties to it being specifically a Noble thing.

Secondly, the rules would need to be expanded. Essentially before, the rules prevented you from making more than one rumor about a person/group/family in a week. This would stay the same, with the addition of something like "Trash rumors about random inconsequential things, such as rumors about eating parts of different races giving effects, are disallowed entirely." Anyone who breaks this rule gets one warning with their post being removed. The second time, they are blocked out of the system entirely. With no exceptions.

Thirdly, as for how users are able to respond or "react" or rate these threads- they aren't. Users are unable to reply, or rate the threads at all, to prevent subtle Meta with responses, or rating. Such as, for example, someone makes a rumor about my character, Conf, supposedly sleeping with another man. In the old system I could rate "Cute" or "Funny", which would subtly give the impression that the rumor is false, for anyone who bothered looking into the ratings.

Finally, players would be able to set the Prefix of their post to state which group this rumor is predominantly circulating among. "Sewers" being the Sewer Dwellers obviously. "Commoners" being the lower class people, the general populace of the city. "Merchants" being, well, merchants. and "Nobility" being the Nobles. No further clarification as to a source would exist. No, "This rumor seemed to come from ___." , to prevent more subtle meta and framings. Given the new rules require perms to be given for framing players of things, this seems like a necessary thing. Plus it limits the saltiness.

Last Note: If there is an excess of the same rumor, IE there are 3 posts about how Conf slept with a guy, within say a month, all but the original would just be removed. This extends to all things, just to limit the spam, and clear out the nonsense. This would also, again, limit the toxicity of the Rumor section.

Here's my two cents on the rumors.

At first they actually had some sense behind them, like Percy and Ulric having some backseat romance due to the formation of the ICUL, or the one about William and Ania. But these kinds of rumors were rare sights.

Most of what I saw were shitposts and rumors that really weren't rumors. Slizzar blood curing baldness wasn't a rumor, it was a trash meme. And the rumors that actually were somewhat pertaining to the original idea were hidden behind the influx of this garbage.

With this said, I don't see the benefit of a rumor court now, since public libel against nobility is a heretical crime now. While the tea circle gossip can still having in small RPs behind closed doors, the need for a rumor section on the forums just encourages abuse.

If you want to spread rumors, best do it IC secretly.

I don't know if it's fine for me to disagree and write why, but just seeing the levels of toxicity before with the Rumors system, along with the lack of real need for the rumors system-- Frankly, I feel that if you really want a rumor out there, you can spread it yourself on someone and then they can try to do damage control.
I just don't think it's a great idea based on the levels of rumors and OOC salt being taken IC or vice versa.
I also agree with what Fire said. He stated this more eloquently. Overall I think it's a breeding ground for potential hatred or teasing or making some roleplayers feel bad. I don't think this is the best plan.

I liked what was being posted beyond those. Which is why i want those kinds of rumors to be specifically banned.

Idk I just feel like... nobody gossips where it could be overheard. And that is a fun aspect of RP.

I respectfully disagree. There's gossip in the taverns, in the ladies' society meetings, in the corners of streets muttered, if you follow people around. My character had a stalker for a little while. OOC I was aware. IC Lizzy was not. I think it's available if you're dedicated to digging up dirt. That's all I'm going to say on that matter. It does exist. Keep your eyes peeled or initiate it for yourself! Start gossiping!

My stand on this is mostly spawned from my experience with the system being pretty good. I understand it caused a lot of salt and OOC stress for a lot of people, which is why I want it to be more heavily regulated if it does return.

I was able to put the system to good use on a few occasions- I used it to "leak" information about the Viola Resistenza to spark more RP for us all for instance. And during the Occupation in general, it was fun to try and undermine the Usurpers with rumors- even if it had little to no real effect, it felt cool. It added a nice layer of depth to everything ,despite the salt.

Having trashy, or hurtful, or nonsense rumors be removed and users who post them barred from the system mercilessly would hopefully resolve many of the prior issues, I hope at least.

Im still open to all opinions though- half the fun for making these kinds of threads, or theory threads, is the discussion. Bringing up problems, and talking solutions, and why the problems existed, etc.

I feel like if people actually use their brains when making rumors, very little salt can be found. At some point, the noble court rumor section became a shitstorm of self-glorification, brilliant annoying posts on eating other races/magic-users for "cool effects" (which I really loved hated), and feeble attempts at gossip such as-

"Hey, Jimmy! You know how our god-Emporer was overthrown by a re-living/undead witch who now rules Regalia while the rest of the world is run by demons? Yea, I fou- OMG YES I LOVE HOW NOBLES HAVE SEX WITH OTHER PEOPLE!!! I heard that
-noble name here- had sex with a sewer-dweller/street-rat/commoner/rival-house/man/woman/she-man/child. This should totally be our focus during this time of global crisis!"

Some things will attract negative attention, and some things are deserving of negative attention. But as long as people are moderated to prevent some of the more mindless vomit from consistently making its way onto the rumor section, I have absolutely no issue with a comeback.

Hey! Thank you for the suggestion! However, as directly said by Marty, there is no intention to return this feature onto the Forums.
