If the server had a modpack version as well as the vanilla server, it would make the game a lot more interesting for players who get bored of the vanilla game.

If a modpack is made I would recommend:

Tinkerers Construct
Ars Magica 2
Archimedes Ships
and Custom NPCs

I would also like to stress that It would be good for the original server stayed up for people who do not like mods.

and the plugins should also carry to the modpack server so people can protect their land with factions.

Having a second server would just add more costs, if not double them. You can get MPM (a recommended mod) and still play on the server. Even if we removed the unmodded server to reduce the amount of money needed it would slow down the amount of players playing on the server drastically, and thus have the server close down after a while due to a lack of donations from fresh new players.

If the server moved and advertised on the vanilla server for the move i'm sure people would go to the modpack.

as for the money, Is money needed for the server, is it not hosted by one of the admins?

Honestly, this has been said before, and I think that overall, over a long period of time, one of the servers would degrade. This, as said before, would increase or double server costs and maintenance, meaning that two sets of staff would probably be needed to spread over the double server population.

I think it's a nice idea to come up with, but it's just not plausible in either economic terms, longevity of either server and the growth of the player base.

Feel free to build on my point if you feel so.

We already havê great plugins and a great texture pack, so why add more stuff to this perfect server? :3

Money is needed to host a server, hosting things on the Internet isn't free or cheap.
Well... I believe if you are hosting it on your own computer and you have port forwarded you router, it could be free. Though I guess there's internet bills. Plus, I'm not sure if massive uses it's own systems or is using another hosting service.

Servers cost a ton of money. Things like advertising can fund it, but overall, the servers are maintained by the Premium payments. Premium payments often cover the costs of running the server, with a little extra here or there for more things to be added. Massivecraft will never have a modded server. Mods that require people to download them to play on the srever are right out. Client side mods that don't give any gameplay advantages are fine. A second server option would cost too much money and would either not harbour enough traffic to be worth the staff's time, or draw too much attention from the main server that it may need to be shut down. More likely the former then the latter. Also, these mods aren't all lore compliant.

This has been suggested many times before. Much like werewolves, party plugins, and new races, this idea is right out. Unless some huge revalation is brought up, this idea will be rejected almost as soon as the staff read the title. (I know they actually read the thread, but it's a hyperbole). Please check the rest of the forums before you post an idea, so as to not cause repetition in what is posted. Thanks for the suggestion, either way, and keep thinking of ideas to make the server better.

Hello.

First of all i must say i laughed a bit at this comment.

Many servers out there probably run like this but we thankfully do not.

Premium pays for the server upkeep its as simple as that. You are suggesting to uproot the entire community and make it a modded server and basically say screw you to the consept and playerbase that has gotten us this far and that is working pretty well for us, that my dear does not make sence to me.

Modded minecraft is fun and all and yeah a lot of people like to play on it but in the end there is so many different mods you can put on and so many competitors out there. Our community is thriving and we are always working to make the experience on MassiveCraft better. This idea of yours basically means making everything more difficult, people will have to download more things to be able to play on here and the people already a part of our "regulars" would have to play somewhere else. And furthermore we would have to make a whole new rep, recruit alot more people, get new players for a new brand which seems kinda silly when we have a good thing going on already.

So i will say thank you for the suggestion but i don't think we will get more modded then our custom plugins.

Honestly, I don't know if mods would do anything. I see that the server is primarily community based, and therefore is certainly not oriented to mods or extra content [excluding plugins]. When you consider that the roleplay world is dictated by what goes on within the chat, it is rather obvious that a mod wouldn't do all too much to change the game. Granted, there are some things that would perhaps be more interesting with a few extra mods injected into the worlds of Massivecraft, but the cons of running costs and such far outweigh the pros of having a slightly more immersive playing environment.

Instead of actually having these mods do all of the work, you may find that it is more enjoyable to actually play these things out for yourself; to have these things written out in your own artistic way. With this, you'd not be limited to what the mod programming allows and disallows; you'd be quite free to design your own weird and wonderful things [lore permitting]. Some people may disagree with this, but in writing - and various other art forms - you are practically limited to how far your imagination can stretch. How much does a mod allow you to do?

But, of course, this is just my perspective and probably won't mean all too much to you unless you happen to be a part of the roleplaying community.
