Backstory/Plothooks​

- Born to a pair of poor farmers in the depths of Anglia in the dead of winter.
- Raised Unionist with heavy emphasis on Purity.
- Committed a heinous arson with her brothers as a teenager before committing to a life of healing and an Oath of No Harm.
- While traveling with a doctor through Anglia, they are beset upon a feral beast. In an effort to spare the doctor's life, Petra dove in front of the beast. No good deed goes unpunished and she is cursed with Markenism in her early teenage years.
- Travel all across Anglia in search of a cure, or hints of one, only to find dead ends, witches unable to offer much more than temporary relief, and mysticism.
- Embark on a journey to Regalia, where she meets and is employed by a Viridian knight by the name of Howland von Moritz. In the midst of their business relationship, scandal beset the pair. Forced with social ostracism from her family or marriage to the Viridian, Petra reluctantly marries into the peerage.
- Despite the initial reluctance, an occupation forces the pair into closer, and more dangerous, proximity. After surviving the occupation, life was meant to settle down, return to the norm. Instead, a long year later, Petra finds herself pregnant and forced with an impossible choice: trust her husband, his potential reaction to her curse, and what it means for their family…

- After fleeing Regalia, Petra sheds her married name and travels to Vixhall, in search of the doctor that once mentored her – the only other person to know of her cursed state. She spends several years here, honing her control over her curse and honing her strength to ensure nothing would ever take her child away from her. In the process of her efforts, she is introduced to another Viridian knight, of the Lancyon, and a fast friendship blossoms.
- From that friendship comes the offer to Squire, to make a stipend for her daughter to live a comfortable life while continuing to contribute to the Empire.
- Years pass and the child, a daughter by the name of Leiselotte, begins to grow. Years pass and Petra maintains a thin control over her life until her daughter begins to ask questions. Questions that Petra can't answer on her own.
- Packing up their life in Vixhall, Petra van der Kleij and Leiselotte von Moritz set out on their journey to Regalia in search of answers and, in Petra's case, atonement.​
