While not very requently, I do dabble in some Smite every now and again. For those of you who don't know, Smite is a MOBA, or Multiplayer Online Battle Arena, which is a type of action game where you use different abilities and characters on two seperate teams of five or so in order to conquer the enemy team's base. In a MOBA, you usually have three main lanes, and in between each lane is an area called "the jungle." The jungle is a densely wooded/ rugged terrained region with maze-like pathes that contain different powerups for you and you team, but have tons of NPC enemies. You may be wondering why I'm telling you this. Simple. I think the current mechanics all ready fit some basic needs for a MOBA gamemode, though does admitedly lack in some.

The kits and trait builds allow for a level of customization similar to the character selection of a typical MOBA. In the jungle could be beacons, but modified to outfit your whole team with powerups, but also spawners, to make the main lanes more appealing to a more frail class. Characters like the Ellador Troll are already good with Crowd Control, able to sway the game how he wants it, even though he is unable to deal a hit to save his life. This fits the roll of a guardian very well. Archers, berserkers, swordsmen, they all have some MOBA counterpart, and fill the same roll.

An idea I have is to have three main lanes, yes, but to have the jungle be split by chunk, and randomized from a set of pre-fabricated peices that all like together, with seperate types of jungle, such as forest, jungle, swamp, canyon, town, et cetera.

This idea is not perfect, however. A few main things are missing. The current low number of classes, while only temporary, is a big hinderence to this idea happening soon and being a success. The other thing is how there are no teams. They would need to be coded and added in. However, if these were to be remedied, this idea would fit in quite well.

I decided not to post this in the KitPvP feedback, as I felt the idea needed more explaining then a simple post would warrent.

I can't be the only one who read "Ellador Troll" and immediantly thought:

It does indeed sound interesting, but I have no idea how this could be made. I imagine it's possible, but, it would take lots of time and work. I don't think I read your post thoroughly enough because I'm just wondering, would this be like a big map or something on the server?

Also, for the record, it's Trundle, not Ymir. LoL is the superior MOBA.

It would be a map that you could warp to on the server.

In case anyone is wondering if something like this has already been made in Minecraft, here is a Minecraft MOBA inspired by DOTA:

It's very fun, but not that much like the actual thing.

Let's be real here though... Counter Strike is the eSports masterrace :D
Not just strategy and tactics, but also huge amounts of skill, and let's not forget that it barely uses something all MOBA's heavily use... RNG :/ That really annoying and dumb chance thing.

And not to mention it's so much more exciting to watch ;)

Also a no shame plug for Ninjas in Pyjamas and Cloud9, my fav teams

/rant about eSports over

the thing is Mobas require two teams with the people from start to finish. unlike siege PvP where people can come and go. Mobas have progression to them and every game is a different progression. That would be hard to mimic with minecraft

Lies! Dota 2 doesn't require any purchases at all unless you want a unique costume, and though while it does have a big learning curve, in the end it is more balanced. This is coming from someone who has played and heavily compared the games, and enjoys them both frequently. I also want to state that it doesn't really matter which of the three main MOBAs (Dota, Leago of Legends, Smite) is better. MOBAs will always be the best most action packed e-sport, and all of them are fun. Also this should be the end of the rants.

Now. This MOBA Massivecraft idea is amazing! I would definitely grab as many my friends as I could and have them try the server simply for this (they hate role play). Unique characters and classes is the only thing worrying me at this point, and I personally would be fine with having only one map.
