What happened to the magic plugin? I know you guys are busy with other things, but could you at least tell what happened to it?

Yeah, actually, when will magic be coming out; I really want to be a mage, and the lack of in game magic outside of RP is really killin' my vibes.

Okay, let me put this out here.
If there was an actual plugin, your creativity would be limited, and only certain spells would exist.
They can't make every type possible- Magic is too diverse.

I believe I heard from @spectec that it was integrated into the traits plugin. Not certain though.

If magic was implemented into pvp I would be so DONEEEEE

As i said im not complaining i just want to know if magic will actually be implemented in the server beyond "pretend". They can take their time, but i just think it would be a cool addition.
It depends on how long it will take.
Right now it's probably on their list of things to do, but by the time they get to it the server might not want it anymore.
No promises, just plans.

As of now, the approach we're considering is to integrate magic into traits. We have a good amount of work in front of us that is of higher interest. I feel that theorizing how it will be integrated wouldn't be very productive at this time. We're a ways off from implementing this feature, and we will gladly be taking suggestions from the forum into account when that time comes. To answer your question, implementing magic is something that we are indeed planning on implementing.

They're working on it. Like the others said, it takes a while to code plugins and they're working on so many things, this plugin is the last of their concerns. They're working on those new worlds, Regalia is being expanded (at least in housing), and 1.8 stuff needs to be updated too. Just be patient and it'll eventually be out, for now there's the fireball trait if you really want fire.

If it's been rp since it was introduced it won't hurt if it's rp for a while now, a plugin isn't really necessary when it's an rp aspect. Like Races, you didn't need those for rp, you could have had Undead as your race but you didn't have to roleplay as an Undead it was used as a PVP aspect. So they replaced it with Traits, which is specifically geared to PvP but has some RP things mixed into it as well.

I want it just for fun, maybe even provide different ways to PVP.

This would be incredibly too overpowered, and spamming useless spells wouldn't be "fun" for the server. If they did ever add it it would be for rp reasons only and it would be some simple particles, and like I said above it wouldn't really be needed.

Not only this, but it would make certain magic types impossible to use and code (to run smoothly at least). Like Cold Fire, and strings.

You just need to be creative, think of ways to somehow replicate magic. Like if you're in some dark room, have you and whoever else you're with add the nightvision trait if you're a blinding light or fire mage lighting up the room.

For strings magic; you'd spawn an invisible mob, with full iron armour and a knockback sword.
Since the mob would be invisable, it would seem as though you were animating the suit of armour with string magic.

For Cold Fire, it could /disguise you as a blaze or something similar?

Do you know that commands such as /disguise, requires packet handling. And therefore not a part of the Bukkit API (but a part of CraftBukkit or minecraft.net) which means it is complicated to do.
Using a packet API might make it easier but maybe those aren't compatible with sharding (I've no idea).

There are ways to control objects/mobs (and players) other than yourself (done remotely occasionally), I've seen it done in a handful of plugins.

Complicated yes, but I like to think it's still a cool idea :)

Players should be made aware that the potential plugin implementation will not alter the lore surrounding magic, and will in most cases not be accepted for use in Regalia. Even IF we can produce this plugin, it will never equal the creative possibilities of the current magic system, and only limit the playstyle of mages, which goes against the reason why we decided to expand on the concept of magic to begin with.

PvP or more appropriately, Survival, is actually what this feature would be geared towards. As Marty said, it'd be excessively tedious to try and match what has been developed for RP in regards to magic. However, in survival it can easily be balanced appropriately to enhance game mechanics.

I would like to see magic. I just think it would take so long to code.
But we have no idea how the to do list looks. There is other thinsg that is also important.

@spectec is there any way to suggest lore compliant trait spells/magic, effects, particles and so on?
I can't be the only one around here with some pretty crazy ideas and I'd love to see more spells get implemented in the future.

There's a write-me lore section where if you use the correct and proper formatting and a decent amount of detail it could get added to the lore. I think @Ryciera is currently doing the magic lore with some other people.
However if you mean like traits or actual IG spells, I'm not sure whereyou would be able to suggest that, maybe the feedback section? Or the suggestions? Not sure of the exact name for the place.

Oh you got me all wrong.. heh...
What i meant was to ask if there was anyway to suggest how to convert the current lore into magic traits (or plugin depending on what the staffs thinks) like the fireball trait as an example.
