What is Kriv?- It's the language of the Krainivaya culture in-lore, based off of real-world Ukrainian.
But doesn't Ukrainian use Cyrillic?- Correct. However, in-lore, Kriv uses a now mostly dead script called "Old Church Slavonic". This script is still used today by some Eastern Orthodox denominations, particularly the Russian Orthodox Church.
Why did you make this? I thought you left Massive?- I did, mostly. I still jump on once and a while to boop around. Massive still means a lot to me, but it look a toll on my mental health. I do this for the community. I hope you enjoy! I'll probably still make some stuff here and there when I'm inspired, but as for playing consistently, probably not. At least not for a while.
How does the font work?- You install it like any other font. You download the Kriv.zip file and open it. Then you double-click the TrueType file to open it and hit the install button on the top. The font replaces LATIN (English) CHARACTERS that have equivalency in the Old Church Slavonic alphabet. Those letters are, right now, A through V, and Z. Letters W, X, and Y have no equivalent in OCS. These letters appear and black squares. Don't worry about them.
How do I use the font?- Once installed, you should be able to select it in programs like Microsoft Office Suite and any other program that accepts downloaded fonts.
Does this include every character in Old Church Slavonic?- No. Some are tied to sounds that don't exist in English, and would be difficult to use for now. I may attach them to some International Phonetic Alphabet characters at a later day. But, till then, this is what I have.
Some characters are missing- Some Western characters don't really have equivalencies in OCS, from what I understand. If you run into a character not edited, you can just remove it from the design. Other than that, I don't have numerals, yet. Some of them were pretty crazy looking, so hopefully it doesn't bother anyone.
Can I use this in my art?- Of course! Even if you make money off the commission, I don't mind its use.
How do I use it on the forums?- Just type what you want into a document and copy and paste an image file of the text. This can be done by using the Snipping Tool which Windows PCs come packaged with, I believe.
How did you make this?- A website called Fontstruct. It's free, but difficult to use. Some characters look awkward.
I don't like this one character- Please let me know. I'll try to fix it. Some characters were hard to make, since certain shapes are hard to make with Fontstruct.
Can you make a font for another lore language?- Maybe. Depends. Some scripts don't have equivalencies, so they are hard to fully realize. I could try if there is enough demand, but I need to be motivated. I doubt I'll do any more right away. This took about three days of on and off work to do.
Feel free to use this however you want. I plan to eventually replace Cyrillic characters with Old Church Slavonic so that you can use it on Ukrainian text. Till then, you can just use English, Romanized Ukrainian, or even just gibberish.
Enjoy, and have a Massive day!
