Long ago, Kori's father was an Ailor named "Varrak" who was adopted into a Selvath family when he was younger. However, though he was a man, he was just as capable when it came to joining in hunts, where I met his wife, Aeris, from another clan of family. It was a deep passion they shared with one another and a feeling that was alien to one another. Where usual relationships would have some mutual feeling, what they were feeling was something more. So, after he participated in a hunt for what they believed to be a powerful demon with Aeris's brothers and sisters, he was the one to do the killing blow. The demon cursed him, saying that both he and his future child would now be damned to become the very thing his kind hunted. At first, his father scoffed at what he believed to be a bluff as he finished off the demon. However, as soon as the demon was brought back into this world, he plotted and planned a curse so foul that it would ruin him. He found the curse, probing and watching Varrak and Aeris any weaknesses, trying to find any dents. Once it was found out that Varrak was an Ailor, the demon struck, cursing him to be Marken as well as knowing that the curse would possibly pass down to his child.
Despite the child possibly being a Selvath, the possible outcome was unknown, so the demon just sat back and watched the fireworks. And there would be fireworks there as Varrak struggled with his curse when it started to manifest. It did not help that Aeris was holding Kori. All they could do was prepare for the worst when Kori was born, not knowing if the curse would carry over. Even worse, after the birth of Kori, as the child came out barely alive, deformed, and sick. The sight of Varrak's own child was horrifying that a small infant could go through this much. What was once a healthy Selvath child now had half of his face blistering, distorting into something unrecognizable. Despite the horrifying sight, both of his parents were able to halt the transformation. Like a slap to the face, his father was met with the weight of the situation. His child, his own flesh and blood, was corrupted, and Varrak came to blame himself heavily for cursing his child to this fate...
One cursed man within the family was hard enough. So both worried about the safety of their child, Aeris suggested that he be under the care of her brother, who lived on the opposite side of the region in a cabin away from a small Alior village. It was a somewhat quiet place, and as long as Kori's uncle made sure they kept a low profile. After a long journey and a tear-filled goodbye, his father gave him a tooth necklace to remember them before letting his uncle take him away.
From there on, Kori lived a somewhat normal life with the careful care of his uncle, but he never learned what exactly was wrong with him. All his uncle could muster to him, or anyone who asked, was that he was afflicted with some unknown disease that was very contagious, always warning Kori himself and people not to get near him. Despite having an isolating life, his uncle did everything he could to give him a comfortable life, even giving him a small kitten for Kori to nurture.
One night, when Kori turned 22 years old, he woke up outside of the cabin, not remembering what happened. He was drowsy, there were bite marks on his arm, and he seemed to notice claw marks on the outside walls of the cabin. He suddenly realized the door was broken open and blood in the doorway. He rushed in to find his uncle, searching everywhere inside, but couldn't find anyone there. His uncle was nowhere to be found. So after pacing back and forth, in and out, biting his hand in the doorway, he decided to find his uncle by himself. Now he wanders around, asking any passerby if they have ever seen his uncle while also doing anything he can to help people. However, as he explores these cities, he keeps hearing gossip and rumors everywhere they go about this monstrous monster that always seems to be seen every time he settles into a town.
