I guess I'm just a little annoyed at how hard it is to recruit and keep active players, but I feel the main reason for this is just how many factions there are. A new player has pretty much a endless choice of factions and sadly all they look at is how many people are in a faction to pick one. Gone are the days of a small (15-25) and loyal group. You do one thing wrong or one member gets bored and off they are to better lands and opportunity. I'd suggest limited the number of factions but I know we just raised the faction cost to prevent more factions but that didn't even seem to stop it.

A lot of players have been playing for a very long time. Looking at some of the bank accounts, I can see why raising the faction cost didn't really stop the factions from being created. It might make sense to institute costs for faction joining/leaving activities. The money would be paid to the server and would be non-refundable. For instance, when a player joins a faction, the faction pays 2 silver and the player pays 1 silver. Then the faction kicks a player, the faction pays 2 silver. When a player quits a faction, they pay 1 silver. The downside is that this only really affects new or poor/scammed players, while older players can faction jump as much as they want.

The amount of factions will drop slowly now when it's higher price. Only other way is to start delete factions, and i don't think anyone what to do that :P

Honestly I've seen an increase. Now we just have more "new players" joining together to pool money and now they can claim more land that sits there going to waste.

I mean I wouldn't be upset if some factions just happened to be deleted though....Just saying lol

I'd say, if there is a faction around who's only intent is to grief the environment, or cause the admins'/community grief, then their faction should be disbanded. Or if you have been an inactive faction and just logg in every 10 days to make sure your faction stays, but don't really play, then it should be disbanded, as it is not being used, and the only one to miss it will be the one logging on every 10 days. Which he shouldn't really be doing anyways.

Factions are being created a lot slower with the new 200 silver faction price, it'll just be a while before the old ones start to disband. Faction leaders don't quit very often, I'd give it at least a month before the amount of factions drops below 40 pages. Just a quick fact about the price change, before the change factions were growing by at least 1 a day, they had shot from the original 11 pages to 49 pages, now since the change the amount of factions is exactly the same. The change has completely halted growth in the number of factions.

I'm in the process of recruiting for a what I hope to be a strong loyal faction. White Lotus will be a side project for now until Red can be a bit more active and move us foward. So yeah there will be another new faction...I guess lol

Many factions have members who are ALL inactive, so why not delete some of them

The price is now 200 silver so i think that there will be less factions created than deleted for the next weeks

Nah, just give factions a chance to die out, it'll take quite a while, but when factions start disappearing, they won't start coming back at the same rate, and should drop to 20-30 pages.

For a server that demands a high price just for making a faction, it defiantly has more factions than usual

Factions need to be reduced, but like Illogical stated, they are going down slowly but surely. Unless the server raises the price back up or people somehow make tons more money, I don't think there will be a lot of faction spam.

I did read the thread, I just was pointing that out, its not like most other servers that dont have a price at all...

Many do, it's configurable in the factions plugin. And Cayorion released the factions plugin here before it started getting viral, so Massive has had plenty more time to be producing factions! Did that...sound right? Meh

When I joined, factions were free. Claiming did cost though. Since then there has been a constant change of the faction prices.

(we wanted to move, back then, and thus we had to claim straight across Aloria. I think we wasted around 500-600s by just claiming chunks)

Erm, why didn't you do /f unclaimall and then went to the location you wanted to settle in?

Too many factions with 1-5 people online at all times... 5 people during weekend peak hours... as a new member of this community I find it frustrating to see 50-100 people online but each and every single one of them belongs to a different faction.

I remember logging on that day and seeing Farmlands slowly creeping across the map...of course that was right after they warclaimed a certain factions F Home. Ah those were fun times when you could do some minor griefing without someone yelling for a mod.

Oh well I still agree with my original statement. There are just way to many factions that have tons of members that might log on once or twice a week and by doing the faction stays active without anyone actually playing in it. So you have land thats being unused plus the 16 chunk rule around it so it limits land for new factions. I claimed land in Ellador and no less than five days later got another faction claiming right beside it. Oh well just glad this topic is still going and is being openly discussed.

Talk about effeciency! (hug)

You have to pay to claim land? I haven't claimed anything for about 6 months...
No, it did cost money to claim at one time, back when the server was first starting out (conversely, factions were free to start up); it doesn't cost any silver to claim land nowadays, however.

Hearing about the 16 chunk rule always makes me chuckle. As much as I love the rule, it seems that it's utterly disregarded by a large chunk of the server (a shame, really). Would it be possible to configure into the Factions plugin, though, some way to automatically prohibit claiming land in chunks too close to another faction's territory? (In this case, the only precedent I can refer to is the prohibiting of someone from teleporting away when there's an enemy within 32 blocks of him; obviously, though, these two actions utilize different mechanics (or so I assume), but just a thought (mm)).

In that case, there needs to be some way for both factions to accept this and thus bypass the block. There are situations where claiming close to each other is beneficial :)
