Impact From Update Aquatic

OK... so @Conflee @Winterless @CnocBride lets assume for a moment that PVP players are going to be more concerned with PVP mechanics and less about pretty blocks... not all of them will but most are clever enough to switch versions client side if they later want to go to Regalia and see it as the builders intended. In that context the fact that MassiveCraft upgrades to newer versions makes absolutely no difference - right? This "illusion" that Massive is not PVP friendly can very easily be fixed by promoting the server as "1.8 friendly" or "PVP friendly". Perhaps the real reason we don't attract many PVP players (and that's the real issue here surely) is that we promote as Factions/RP. Correct?

The reason we don't attract PvPers is because for the best part of a year we have advertised our server as having 1.9 PvP.

The general sentiment I'm getting from this post is that people want to remove backwards compatibility. Given how drastic the update is I doubt it'll even be technically possible.

I decided to look into some mods, and while Im not sure 100%, what are the thoughts on ProjectL? Its claiming to somewhat fix hit detection, though i'm not really enough into PVP anymore to be able to tell.

Might be worth tinkering with though if any PVPers wanna look into it, and if the "1.10 and up" version still works, that could be a better alternative if staff can troubleshoot it and make sure anticheat doesn't ping it. That way players aren't stuck in 1.8 (which is 2 years old at the moment) forever and the server can actually try to make things nicer by utilizing new functionality etc in new versions.
That's..... not the issue with 1.12. There is a fundamental hit registration and netcode change in 1.9+ to accommodate for the new combat system. Hits simply do not register even if they should when you're on 1.12. Don't believe me? Ask any PvPer the difference between playing massive on 1.8 and playing on 1.12.

Regalia has always and will probably continue to always be built with new updates in mind. Every time a new block is added it opens up hundreds of possibilities for Marty to include something awesome with the Rpack, and the builders will use it as much as they can. Almost every estate built since the World of Color update has used concrete for the roofs and walls etc because Marty added a ton of new textures (and connected textures) that make it look amazing.

Im not sure limiting either world will ever be a good idea, im just expressing general annoyance at a seeming inability to bridge the two, even down to something as simple as what version of the game they are on.

Ill look into it more and see if I can find a workaround. Im sure people have already tried, so Ill have somewhere to start at least, I mean, hell, if it will get everything unified, Im willing to drop my own cash to pay modders to fix the issue if a way can be found. There has to be a way, via plugin or mod or both together, to fix the way it is handled by the netcode. Someone replicated all of IC2 and Thaumcraft with plugins after all, and someone else recreated a functioning Gameboy that played Pokemon Red with commandblocks, there has to be something.

We have had this talk before. Mods and plugins cannot replace the game code of newer versions to that of 1.8 - 1.8.9.
Hey @Conflee,

I'd like to thank you for trying to spark a discussion on these topics but their are some major points I must bring up.

• Regarding everything you said about 1.8 . . .

You're just wrong. It seems that you believe servers which "appeal to a PvP base" run off of 1.8.9 for the game mechanics alone, which they do not, servers use 1.8.9 because it's reliable! Each game version that's published by Mojang is a clean unchanging client, stating that "older versions become too glitchy and crash your game" is simply not true. With versions beyond 1.8.9, Mojang severely altered the code that is involved in combat. Though MassiveCraft can fundamentally change the way PvP works on the outside, for example, removing the second hand slot and swing delay, the game is still changed on the inside to work with newer versions. Hit registration, cursor delays, and faulty Knockback are some examples of issues many players face when PvP'ing outside of 1.8.9.
