FROM THE DESK OF HIS LORDSHIP, THE BARON OF ATHOS, ABELHARD LATIMER:
A SUMMARY OF POLITICAL BELIEFS AND DECLARATION OF INTENT FROM HOUSE LATIMER
On Governmental Structure
"An absolute monarchy with a chancellery and secretariat."
House Latimer believes that his Imperial Holiness should remain in a position of absolute power and be able to do as he pleases, but believes it would be ideal for there to be a Chancellor and Secretariat, as to best cover all facets with men and women best suited for the position.
On The Judiciary
"The court of law is vital to our civilization, to maintain order and deal justice."
House Latimer believes in a functional Judiciary for both nobility and commoners, believing that, while the nobility have noble privilege to avoid being called to the judiciary in the first place for most minor offenses, if what they commit is heinous or serious enough, such as treason, they should be held accountable the same as a common man who committed the same offense.
On the Press
"A censored press is key to national and moral security."
House Latimer holds firm to the idea that press should be censored for the purpose of keeping certain moral deviancies from reaching the minds of the masses, and for maintaining the secrecy of certain technologies and plans. After all, loose lips sink ships.
On the Structure of The Empire
"We are mighty, but we have better things to do than micromanage."
House Latimer is extremely opposed to micromanagement on an empire wide scale, and believes the current semi-autonomous federation structure the empire currently holds, is the ideal form of governance.
On Unionism
"Anything that is not Unionist, should submit to it."
House Latimer considers all denominations of Unionism which have a seat in the conclave to be equal to each other, as all worship the spirit and work to further the great way. However, it considers those faiths which are not Unionism to be perversions of it, and therefore chooses to allow them to exist, under the condition they do not openly preach their ideals, and admit Unionism to be the ultimate faith.
On Racial Laws
"They may not be Ailor, but still have a place within the empire, should they serve."
House Latimer believes that Ailor should have citizenship upon being born, and that Non-Ailor, barring Kathar, can earn their citizenship through service to the Empire, in one way or another. Until that citizenship is earned, they should merely have residency.
On Marriage
"In accordance with Evintarin Faith."
House Latimer's views on marriage are simple, and go as follows: Same sex marriage is permitted, but only in polygamous marriages with at least one male and one female, in accordance with Evintarin faith. Because there still needs to be non-ailor born so to continue the Unionist belief in reincarnation into lesser races as punishment, any race barring Kathar, Slizzar, or Yanar are permitted to marry. Marriage is until death, and adultery is punishable to a harsh extent.
On Land Ownership
"Feudal Lords and the Clergy."
House Latimer believes that land should be divided up between feudal lords, and certain lands should be placed under the church as holy grounds to be tended by benedicts, rather than solely to the Feudal Lords.
On Government Positions
"The state should be efficient as humanly possible."
Building on former beliefs, House Latimer is strongly against governmental positions going to anyone who is not a mundane Ailor, Qadir, Sihai, Altalar, Orc, or Avanthar. Anything other than the aforementioned races is considered a disgrace to national image. However, in Latimer lands, only Ailor shall hold government positions.
On Social Hierarchy
"A strong aristocracy ruling over the common cast, both being kept in check morally by the church, is how it was meant to be."
House Latimer believes in the notion that the Aristocracy are best fit to rule and govern, based off their educations and merit. However, the clergy plays an important part in ensuring that the aristocracy and common cast remain pious and moral.
Beyond Our Own Borders
"Limiting our exposure to external squabbles is ideal. But that does not mean total isolation."
House Latimer prefers to focus upon building up their lands, and only interacts with foreign nations and lords when it is needed. Maintaining cordial relations and trade routes is necessary, but we need not weaken ourselves in a war between foreign nations for no good reason.
On Warfare
"Technical Annihilation, is what we call it."
House Latimer does not subscribe to the idea that warfare can only end in a party being left razed, or subservient to the other. However, potential threats should be quashed and stamped out. If an enemy nation is not compatible or able to be dealt with through diplomacy, and war is inevitable, they must be dealt with. By projecting our own culture and assimilating local populations with well placed propaganda and enforced norms, and enslaving any non-ailor which will not convert, we can utterly annihilate any ill-will our opponents have towards us, destroying their civilization in the technical sense, and creating a new ally. Of course, this does not apply to opposing nations consisting of void taint, which should be purged from this mortal coil.
Economic Model
"Competition is what leads to innovation."
House Latimer holds a belief that a market should be free, but have state taxes placed on transactions to properly fund civil projects. To note, House Latimer classifies feudal lords as private entities, and their trade should be considered part of the free market, and subject to taxation.
The Right to Protest
"We are not barbarians who slaughter our own people for disagreeing with us."
House Latimer considers any form of peaceful protest to be legal, but also considers breaking violent protests up with non-lethal force to be within the right of local authorities. To House Latimer, the correct way to protest, is to simply voice your concerns in an essay.
