The family started in 103 A.C for reasons which are still debated among the family today. Some speculate that it was due alliances in a military pact, while others say it was due to luck. The only thing that is really known is that eventually Marquita du Vauquelin came to power, letting in small militias of Ithanian men and women. They set up a small settlement on the Northwestern part of Ithania, try to keep a decent distance from the Velheimer raiding party. They soon began to get more Ithanian and began to try affecting their looks, primarily their hair. They soon became very skilled in this craft, gaining a little local fame in doing so. Marquita stuck to her combat past, which made her a little less popular and she died without very much popularity in 147 A.C
In 150 A.C, after much debate Marquita's son became patriarch for a very small amount of time when Vladimir Kade came in 150 A.C. The Ithanian Gem boom also helped his succession at the time, but the du Vauquelins were part of that for a very short time, four years. After those four years, the patriarch was killed by a revolt by some of the militaristic women of the family. Once they were done with that, they tried their hardest to rid of all records of the former patriarch. They did this because that thought they had something to prove as being more Ithanian, though no one outside the family really seemed to care. The patriarch's name has been wiped from history as well as a lot of happenings for seven years. After that, the family came to a vote in order to set in the new matriarch, Collette Aoûte Terrois du Vauquelin.
During the first part of her reign over the family, she moved the family over to La Portée du Paradis. They set up their own shops over there as well, mainly hair care but also some of the men set up mercenary bands. This seemed to boom the income of the du Vauquelins and Collette was praised as being the savior of the family. After thirty years of her original reign, something new caught the du Vauquelin's eyes. That was the school of Griffer and the style in which they fought. They hired tutors to train their daughter while most of the men were left out. The men became slave traders and mercenaries, which led to a slave revolt. The mercenaries proved useless, considering the primarily Varran slaves had already learned their method. Eventually, it was the Griffers who were called upon which became a merciless campaign against the slaves. 85% of the d'Vauquelins 940 slaves lay dead in du Vauquelin wine fields. However, Collette died during this and her daughter was quick to take the throne. At this point, it was 212 A.C.
While the city was economically crippled due to Regalian Pessimism, the du Vauquelins began to depend heavily on Griffer warriors and their hair business. Men became rather untrusted, and they were now replacing the slaves in the field with a more privileges. However, for three decades the men of the house were blamed for the death of the greatest matriarch that the du Vauquelins had seen. Didina du Vauquelin (As she is known, there is no accountable middle names for her) was busy trying to set up ties to Regalia, offering nobles and commoners alike their services. Small detachments of the family lived in Regalia in between 231-34 but eventually all came back due to the odd customs they had held. Soon, they began getting more slaves, but this time they treated them a bit better. Giving them uniforms, decent food, and for the exceptionally good slaves, small amounts of coin. Each slave was assigned a personal master and the tradition would hold until the Chrysant war. In 248 A.C, Didina died but she had multiple daughters to choose from as heirs.
Esme Grande Regalois du Vauquelin became the matriarch for one of the shortest reigns in the entire history, only 23 years. Esme had an extremely uneventful first part of the reign, really just going off what her mother did and trying to keep the traditions held. She did tend to hire more Griffer tutors, and allowed some of the leaner men to learn in the school. Her downfall came in the Drachenwald Crisis when she sided with the van Sherburnes. Nobody in the family like this, they all sided with the barons and their cause. Esme was killed August 13th, 271 A.C when her personal guard detachment turned on her and killed her on the orders of her daughter. Surprisingly, this did virtually nothing to the du Vauquelins, they continued life and a lot of the men and Griffer women helped the Barons. Though most of the non-combatants tended to stay out of it and to their own business. The family was doing relatively well for itself, making majority of its money through military exploits but their beauty business was also getting more elegant and sophisticated. Naeva Ailaise Terrois du Vauquelin was helping the family greatly.
Naeva was keen on reform, mostly to the men spectrum of the house. They had been pretty neglected and Naeva was going to fix it; you can't have a family without men. She introduced them to the School of Battlemed, all of the younger men were excited to this new school that would be primarily for them. However, it also benefited the female side because now they had doctors for the Griffers. This would play an important part in the Chrysant war. In 286. Naeva herself formed a du Vauquelin regiment in order to help the Regalians. She wanted to get back the old partnership they had a little while ago. Her daughter, Laverne, also tagged along though she hardly fought. The slaves that the du Vauquelins had previously owned were either sold or let go, they didn't need them in war. They fought with valor, though eventually Naeva fell to her injuries inflicted upon by a Cro-Allar. Laverne took the house and was a heavily influenced matriarch for a lot of her reign. The young Griffer was not sure of herself like those before her.
Laverne Vrillias Pouvoire du Vauquelin came into power 292 A.C and with a rough start. Her father was pulling all of the strings and every knew it, but before revolt happened he fell violently ill after a mysterious infected cut. Some still think foul play was at hand but no one has any clear suspects. Laverne helped the Regalians during the Bone Horror Crisis and the Ranger Crisis with her Griffers. She steered clear of the Songaskian Wars though, primarily because she thought that the Songaskians had a chance at winning and did not want to be on the loosing side. After the Songaskian Wars, she moved the majority of her family to Regalia while keeping a moderate detachment in La Portée du Paradis for farming and training. She has pushed for the use of Matrias knights, though hardly any family care, preferring the good old fashion Griffers. Currently, she is trying to start a Salon in the city and, if she can, a sisterhood of Griffers.
Females: Females in the house are often categorized by two things; Strength and beauty. These are the most prevalent in the women's society here and play an important role within the family. In the beauty area, it is often for the females to have decorated hair where style does not matter, and also physical beauty. For the strength portion, beauty still applies but it is more lenient with combat. That being said, the most prominent body type in the house is femmefetale, though nothing above athletic is ever achieved. Due to their general fighting style of dodging, they have more muscular legs and hips. They average at around 5'4 - 5'7 in height
For facial beauty, females of the house have long and flowing red hair in which they take immense amounts of measures to take care of. Extravagance and elegance are highly prized among women's hair. Du Vauquelin women are no strangers to jewelry either, often decorating whatever the can with it. They are often seen with vast amounts of makeup on them, though that is not necessarily true with all of them. More combatant characters should steer clear of this stereotype. They have either blue or brown eyes, though the mainline will always have blue.
Males: The males in the house really only belong to one body type, that being either ripped or muscular. They will likely never achieve anything higher than muscular, though it has been seen before. They average at about 5'10 - 6' in height. They are known to have burly arms and little to no body hair on them. Their preferred style of clothing are fighting/working clothes and they often only wear that or something for special occasions.
Men in the house are unique to women primarily because they have the possibility to blonde hair. This is often well kept, though not held to the same standard as women. They have blue and brown eyes too, though according to most people they often show more life in them then the women's. They do not often have beards, but if they wanted them then they can grow them with relative ease. It is seen as more proper to shave as to not look like a Northerner or any other "barbaric" people.
