Values
Loyalty "Brothers in Arms, Brothers in Alms."
The Cavaal hold true to loyalty to each other, even distantly related are closely-tied brothers in arms through sparring and association in their most brief of meetings. Should one go out of line it is the duty of all others to pull them back into the fold, should one stumble it is the duty of all others to pick up the fallen and elevate them so that they may hold their head high alongside their brothers.
Unity "Each is a brick to reinforce the Wall."
Cavaal, despite their heavily militant and violent nature, with always resort to verbal discussion before trading blows with their companions. Should disagreements arise, they are settled upon the most glorious arena of debate and political theatrics. This tradition gives rise to a large variety of mentalities and outlooks observable within the Cavaal, as opposing ideals become encouraged so long as one can explain their conflicting values with proper conviction.
Pragmatism "What can be used, must be used."
The Cavaal, in their earliest education, are taught of the value of others, be it as comrades or as tools that may be utilized. There are things that an Altalar alone may not be able to do, but the hands of another may do easily, that fact is respected deeply by all members of the House, much to the chagrin of more dogmatic Est-Allorn Altalar. They are more than willing to shake hands with barbarians if said barbarians prove useful, or skillful enough to impress.
Talent "Constant Advancement, no less."
Cavaal children are raised in strict education from a very young age, they are encouraged to pursue those skills that they are talented in, and are rarely forced into fields of study that they demonstrate no prowess or passion for. The primary expectation is that the Cavaal seek constant personal advancement, improvement of their skills be they martial or domestic, and constant improvement of personal social standing. They are never idle.
Lore
Commoner House Cavaal of Ylesse-Ise draws its roots from the most distant past when the first Altalar settled upon the Sollerian Isles and declared themselves as something distant, yet connected to the Allorn Empire. They stem their history from the achievements of Ilyathiel, an ancient Solvaan who served under the Sol of Sca'Mennais, but eventually carved out a name for themselves through duty as a Mercenary, accruing a large Company that went by many monikers, but is known today as the Majestic Wing Company. The House's roots have always been set upon the battlefield, such a bloody task swiftly became their primary due to the individual talents of each Solvaan within their Company. With time and pragmatic decisions, the Cavaal grew to be a strong aristocratic lineage in their own right, they were a wealthy household, and prideful of their Allorn customs.
It wasn't long until the early Regalian Kingdom came to bear down upon the Solvaan settlement upon the Sollerian Isles, Ailor settlers intent on expanding into the lush forests and territories of the Sollerian Isles they had called their home. In response, those of the Cavaal took up arms to defend the small exclave they had carved out for themselves, in these bloody early years they were forced into the lifestyle of nomads, a roving band of brothers carving a gruesome path in their wake. This continued until Sinavaal's efforts brought the small skirmishing to a close, and the Sollerian Isles became one under the banner of the burgeoning Regalian Empire. Skirmishes and constant relocation continued even with this act of unification, and the Cavaal could not settle for many years.
In approximately the year 136AC, the Cavaal, under the command of Ilyathiel, the Cavaal and Majestic Wing Company finally carved out a small holding for themselves after years of saving, a small estate in the territory of Velincara, a structure that is still maintained today by a large number of garden hands and stonemasons to act as a place of conglomeration between all those Mercenaries who would trace their lineage of Ilyathiel. The surrounding lands being developed into a grand vineyard, with established trade routes to the rest of the Sollerian Isles and beyond. With an established trade outwith the Mercenary's lifestyle, Ilyathiel opted personally to settle within this manor and sent her descendants out into the world to make their own glorious living in the field, whilst she tended to her distilleries. Under Ilyathiel's dedication to Sinnavei, the Cavaal's ways mostly changed, altering their mannerisms and perspective to a more Regalia-Centric one, the Cavaal and the Majestic Wing Company truly pledged themselves to the Regalian Emperor as of 124AC.
Meriya's birth brought with it little change to the form that the Cavaal had upheld for years, simply another child born to one of the many roving bands of Solvaan that praised Ilyathiel as their collective ancestor, as a part of a generation of Solvaan who attempted to shepherd in an age of tolerance and camaraderie with the other races that settled upon the Isles. However, it was a time of turmoil on the isles, and especially for those Sorcerors and Mages of the Cavaal, forced to hide themselves or battle off swathes of agents from the Azure Order and Darkwald Knights amongst other magic-fearing zealots, whilst working for those open-minded few who saw the capabilities of the Arcane for what they could be, when held in the right hands.
In the modern era, the Cavaal are a people who are distant and separated, each operating amongst their own small bands of Mercenaries in the distant reaches of the Regalian Empire, yet all are familiar with one another's escapades due to their gatherings at the manor in Velincara held each decade.
Family Members
Family Membership is on a write-in basis. Shoot me a concept in the thread below, or discuss with me a position in the family in DMs (Stellar#5233). Current characters are also welcome to have backstory ties to the family if one wishes.
Meriya the current family head, believes strongly in the concept of Found Family. Sworn-siblings are greatly valued, but mostly come about through in-character interaction. These can be backstory write-in if your concept is strong.
