So is it possible for a mage use use his magic for empowered attacks, such as a Ice mage uses a ice shield and sword or a fire mage uses a fire in his fists to attack. Lore says that mages basically only use magic so why not allow them to use there magic as a empowerment to other attacks that allow more tactical fights.

No, magic is specific to one type of fighting or defense there isn't in betweens there isn't exceptions.

@Varisus
What it sounds like is someone using magic in coordination with conventional weapons to make an even stronger attack. (please correct me if thats not what you mean) Essentially the reasoning behind this is, since using magic takes a lot of practice if you were a mage you would spend too much time practicing magic to spend any decent amount of time practicing say archery or swordsmanship. So while in theory you could be say a mage who uses a flaming sword, you would still be hopelessly outclassed by any trained swordsman, and you wouldn't practice enough to be able to stand up to another mage. Another reason is that using magic isn't like in Harry Potter where you wave a wand and something suddenly happens. When a mage uses magic it takes Stamina from him to complete the task. (If anyone has read Eragon you could basically follow it's rules for Magical tasks and the energy it takes and be fine) So if you used magic with a conventional attack you would become tired incredibly quickly.

Hope that cleared it up.

I believe he's asking if one could "empower" themselves, imbuing something with attributes or the power of their magic; like fusion cuisine (not really). But I do believe it is encouraged to enchant certain objects with your magic, like a sword of flames or whatnot- not totally sure, but I do believe hearing this sometime. Remember, that the power of your magic still needs to correspond with your level of..magic, yea xD

Mhm. What Human said. I'm pretty sure there are onto offensive and defensive types of magic. Such as Earth Armour, that's a defensive form where as something like a fire Mage casting a huge fireball would be more of an offensive form.

EDIT: I dun' goofed.

Anyhow, I suppose it could be possible to use magic to empower your actions but peeps shoulder remember that forms of magic are only one or the other, offence or defence.

In the description of dragon fire it says that masters can start firestorms that can become hot enough to melt iron, but I think that might be referring to just a really really hot fireball xD

Actually I was talking flamethrower, blowing out fire and use wind to augment the overall deadliness.

Another combo move in magic is a ice mage freezes the air around them, freezing there foe and then uses Frozen Shard to break the ice in there lungs, cutting the victims insides up.

Actually thats quite creative, gold star.

Although it would be considerably more brutal, the ice mage freezes them then the shardmage breaks away parts of the ice and impales them with it not enough to insure escape but for injury its good
