Proposal: change dynmaps settings to disable "hide if shadow".

From the dynmap settings page:
# # Optional - make players hidden when they are inside/underground/in shadows (#=light level: 0=full shadow,15=sky)
# hideifshadow: 4

Discussion:
Currently if players are under cover they do not appear in the dynmap.
Usually players don't mind being shown in dynmaps in Regalia.
If a player wants to hide they can still use the hide command.
It is beneficial for the server to show that there are many players in Regalia.

I honestly don't understand why "hide if shadow" was enabled in the first place. It makes little sense.

A: Where are you?
B: I'm not sure where I am, use the Dynmap
B: Oh wait, it's dark here. I am now one with the shadows.
A: What?
B: shhhhh, i am one with the shadows. The naked eye cannot see my presence.

It seems the idea was implemented. At least, people inside the tavern are now visible.

Edit: no, the idea hasn't been implemented. There are places in the tavern where players disappear.

Excuse my ignorance, but doesn't this mean if you find a dark spot inside a building (Which people are in 90% of the time anyway) then the dynmap won't show you? Also aren't light levels determined by actual player's lightlevel settings like Bright, Moody, etc?

Those settings only determine how bright the lighting in the game appears on your screen. "Light level" is a value that the game tracks for each block, based on proximity to light sources and time of day. How do you think traits like "StarveLight" and "FeedDarkness" determine how bright the area you are in is?

  1. Pretty sure the dynmap plugin tracks whether the player is underneath something, in other words whether or not sunlight can reach them. Light level isn't considered so this isn't relevant.
  2. There are two types of light level. One is the actual light level that is used for the actual game (mob spawning, light detectors, etc).
  3. The other is the render light level, in other words what the player sees, which is only aesthetics. This can be changed with things like the light settings or a nightvision potion/effect, but it's purely appearances and doesn't change game mechanics at all. Mobs spawn in the dark but notice how activating nightvision doesn't stop mobs from spawning.

I've always been able to see the people in the tavern on Dynmap, not sure what to tell you.

Nope, that is not the case.
I double checked and there are still places in the tavern where one disappears. Try for example going to x=2939 z=2777
It doesn't happen in all the tavern, it seems to be affected by sky light levels.
