Close Knit Community Possibly At Risk

Would everyone here agree that the community in Massivecraft is a close knit one? With a 150 player cap, everyone seems to know everyone. I for one love this close knit community, surrounded by friends and allies. I know that server techs are currently working on sharding, which will eventually allow us a much larger player cap, (Upwards of a couple hundred, correct)? When server sharding is complete, and our player cap raised, I'm afraid the close knit community we have come to know and be a part of will vanish. Now some of you may be thinking that more players equals more fun, Example (Giant Raids/battles, bigger factions, larger events, etc). I'm afraid with a larger server cap we will have an influx of trolls and hackers galore, ruining RP and our current community. In no way am I against a raised server cap, I just don't think it should be raised drastically. I also fear admins will have their hands full banning new possible trolls and hackers left and right, drawing them away from other things.
This is just something I have been thinking about, feel free to agree or disagree with me, and post below, just please avoid any insulting.
 
Perhaps they could install/develop an anti-hack plugin to let off some of the work load? Would also make sense to start training some more IG staff to help with the future influx.

Two great points Mecharic. I wondered if they had an anti-hack plugin. Training more IG staff would also help as well.
 
I was actually thinking the exact same thing as you Alj23. I just didnt know how to post it without provoking all the "This is an RP server? I though RP were the excuses to attack celebrations we made up on the spot!" people that like nothing better than more lambs to the slaughter and less RP.

I am all for our community to expand, as long as we retain our current "Close Knitness" we have at the moment. (I believe I just made something new up. :D)

When I drafted this post, I carefully picked my words as to not provoke the very thing you brought up. I understand the RP more people would add to this server, but weigh it along side the people that want to just spam, troll, and hack. Is it really worth it?
 
I personally thinking that we keep the entire combined servers' limits at a total of 300-450 lots of new blood and diversity, the ability for non-premiums to actually play during the week days, better events would all be great, however.... I'm afraid to keep are relatively great community as good as it is now we must think about something else very huge in importance....... A whitelist...... DUN DUN DUUUN.

I think this may have been removed due to the FPS drop it was causing people. (correct me if I'm wrong.) I do not know what it would take to develop an anti-hacking plugin, coding wise. I also believe moderators would have to deal with griefers, trolls, and spammers directly, taking up their time.
 
A nice thing is that this will be like the population boom of the 1960's, when society began to change for the better.

This might be good, I know several other fairly large servers like us such as The Lord of the Craft does this. Although, we would have a new mountain on our hands, Mt. UnassessedWhitelistApplications :D

Having a whitelist would make it so you had to apply to play Massivecraft? I do not think the server mods would go for this, because of what Joshy said, it would mean tons of work.
 
Umm, I think you guys might not like this, but your underestimating server sharding. Last time I heard, it was upwards to a 10,000 player cap. Soooooo, yea....

I knew it was high, and was worried it would be this high. If 10,000 players can be on the server at once, well.... I don't have a solution for that. Imagine getting raided by a faction with 100 plus people in it, or a faction having 1000 claim power...:|
 
I hardly know and/or talk to anyone outside my own faction.

Not everyone is deep in the community.
 
No whitelist... just get like 1 admin for every 100 players. Or make it so that anyone caught greifing gets an autopermban, no admins needed. Or perhaps some kind of AI Admin to respond to /helpop's with certain key words (like chest removal, hacking accusations, spam, and griefing?).

Regardless of what the admins do, I am sure they have debated this themselves many times. As for the actualy size, I believe it was 150-200 slots per world, so right now only a few thousand people (ONLY).
 
Random thought- Think of the amount of global spam, or how many factions would be created, you thought we had a lot of factions now, ohhhh,,, just wait.(facepalm)

I don't mean I whitelist in the traditional sense aka answering a ton of complex questions, voting for the server, Ect. Rather what I meant was a as quite simple thing like this that allows you in just by completing it.

I guess this could work, but just take note that not everyone who plays on this server RPs, I personally don't.
 
The is a difference between Thee massivecraft community and ther massivecraft community. We will always remain a tight community, it is just gradually more and more will come into that.

And that is part of the damn reason why we need a whitelist! This is an RP server? there are plenty of other PVP servers to join, or building servers, or faction servers, or hunger games servers, or the Shortbow network, or single player...... The possibilities are endless!(hug)(clap)

Yes, it would aid the RP, but it would prevent so many new players from learning what RP servers are really like. I also feel it would violate some sort of unwritten rule about the server, that rule that says anyone and everyone is welcome to come and play on this server.

I would say this is a RP server, coupled along with everything else you listed.:D

Yeah. Massivecraft has never resorted to a whitelist, and I don't think the creators would like to start.

All of you whiners out there, "Oh i dont like PVP, i just want to RP", "Cap the MCMMO its sooo OP OMG", and it continues. Deal with fighting, stop whining about it. Every time i see someone whining about PVP it pisses me off so much. PVP is a huge part of RP.

That's why people who don't want to fight should act in the roleplay way, and run. I like to think of myself as a fairly competent soldier, but if two armored players are coming at me, I'mma ollie outie.

No but I am referring to waimer. He said PVPers go play on a PVP server. I have not found a better pvp server than massive. This is the only server I have ever donated to.

No I was just saying that I think that massive tops the other PVP servers. Also I have no war threads to be funny on, so sad. :'(
