In my world history class (with a AWESOME teacher, BTW), we just wrapped up the Romans, Greeks, and Byzantines. On thing I noticed is that there are good emperors, and there are really, /really/, bad ones. Wait? Emperor? Regalia has an Emperor! Yeah. They people who don't affect roleplay for the general population, but are still a thing who does some behind the scenes work. However, what if one, just one, took a huge effect in the rp of the average person?

To get some ideas, let's look at Rome's worst emperors. First off, the most famous, Nero. Persecuter of many groups, insane, burner of cities, player of the lyre, and actor of the bad. This guy was just. His mother convinced her husband to make Nero heir, killed the emperor, and sent him to power. Bad decision. If your son is the offspring of you and your family member, don't make him supreme ruler.

He put of plays that lasted for hours on end, and forced everyone to watch. Bad. Actor. People faked their deaths and gave birth during his plays. Any wonder why?

He burned down Rome. At least, he was believed to have. Burned down the aristocratic quarters, played his lyre, and sang while the city burned. He then built a golden palace on top of the ashes. This guy was nuts. After his palace was complete, he shouted "Finally! I can live in a house worthy of a human being!" Yeah. Did I mention he was off his rocker?

Next, Caligula. All you need to know about him is that her made his horse head consul. Nuf said.

Now, I wouldn't want this to be followed to a 'T', but it would be an interesting story arc. It would give people a reason to question Unionism. An excellent chance for character growth. People will begin to see Unionism for what it really is. A tool of the Regalian government to keep people loyal.

It wouldn't even need to be frequent. Burn down an area the staff want to remove. Kill some people in rp. Corrupt laws. Even if it lasted only a month or two before someone decided to assassinate him, it would work. Things like these were common in the ancient world. Why not Regalia?

My best choice for new insane emperor would be a Cedric Made. Already, he's a bit odd. Some things seem crazy about him. It makes him lovable and fun. However, he could be like Caligula. He slowly goes insane as his world crumbles around him, looking for someone to take anger out on. Persecute Old God believers? A minority that is often looked down upon already?

An idea would be a common strategy from back in the day. Give the people entertainment and throw food at them, and they stay calm.

In the end, I think this would be not only a fun and interesting story arc, but also one that makes everyone's character reexamination themselves, their beliefs, and Regalia. Unionist or not.

Post what you think below. Just be kind, and don't flame, as usual. Have a Massive day!

Cedric, like most other Kades, is a believer in the Old Gods faith. Prosecuting people of his own religion may be an iffy point for him. Additionally, behind Alexander's sons, then Thomas and Dominic, he'd probably only be 5th-or-6th in line for the Imperial Seat. Seeing him on 'the throne' would be a matter rife with death and likely assassination of almost all current standing members of the direct Imperial Family.

I really like the idea. The specifics need working out, but 10/10 for concept.

If we took up every little story twist that any random player came up with because they heard something they felt was cool during history class, we'd all be in the stone age by now.

I also don't feel very comfortable with the idea that you're just treating my roleplay character as a story progression object, especially because Cedric was brought into being to avoid the nobility politics.

He was just an example. I love Cedric as a character. I just thought he could fit the place if you guys were to have accepted this idea. Sorry for that. Have a Massive day.

Don't you just hate it when the staff don't use their high ranking and powerful OC's for story progression?

Stop taking me seriously.
Seriously.

Honestly MonMarty, I just don't understand why you have to be so condescending to someone who had an idea. I'm a little disapointed at the lack of respect you just showed to @indyfan98. Whether what you said is correct or not is irrelevant, we're players on the server you care about, and deserve better treatment, although you're welcome to disagree.

Why not say that with more respect?

What 'disrespect' has he shown?

I'm only going for realism with this idea. Not every king or emperor in real life is a perfect angel. Even if this was implemented as a past event with records detailing it, that would get some of the job done. I just want Unionism to seem less like the obvious choice for most humans, and for them to see that emperors have flaws too.

Then perhaps put in a write me lore thread, rather than suggesting that others turn their played characters insane for your enjoyment (and perhaps a hidden motive of wanting to overthrow the government, judging off your history?)

Most humans do see that the emperors have flaws. They also see that saying that the emperors have flaws is heresy, and punishable by death. Many priests and bishops may even criticize the emperor privately, but they know that having a single, powerful leader ultimately benefits the Human cause, and so they feel no great desire to stir up trouble.

Deserve better treatment? Sounds like someone lives the entitled life..... Nothing in the real world is handed to you, you have to work your tail off in order to go places, and if you get shot down, as he did here apparently, use it as a learning experience and move on. Monmarty is staff, but the way I see it, he's the one that "deserves" things that he hardly ever gets. Sure, he's a bit rough, but he's also human.

Perhaps you should show more respect by wording your sentences with less ungratefulness. Marty was simply stating that he couldn't take up every single player's plotline, and that doesn't change whether he loves us or not unless he says so. Going on about how we all deserve better treatment is a one-man argument and if you continually speak for the whole server every time you bring up an argument, quite frankly you don't deserve better treatment.

I would speak for the whole server when I say we don't need you to voice phantom opinions.

I'm sorry did you miss the entire section where he suggested throwing my character overboard after 2 months of fun were spent? Or are you just poking at my reply because you're mad that I'm blocking you from having fun at the expense of others?

I only said Cedric because he seemed to fit. As I said, I love Cedric. He is a fun character. I wasn't saying that you should. This idea was mainly for fun and to have fun discussions. I see that I have worded things horribly wrong, and that this thread has turned to unfriendly arguments. I am terribly sorry for all of this. I never meant for any flame or insults to ensue. If you wish, you may lock this thread. It has only brought a lot of anger. For this, I am deeply sorry...

Honestly, I don't think Cedric would be the type to do this at all.
Maybe that Alexander guy? I dunno.

Alexander as a madman? I can't see that at all.

Yet, even /considering/ Cedric is something I find way off the charts of wrong. I don't think Cedric would become any sort of crazy. I'm sure he would stop himself if he ever started becoming mad for some supernatural reason for many reasons, I'll give one; Astrid Kade.

I don't know, guys. Cedric is real cool and all but I don't think he'd be insane or anything.

god grammatical correctness is not exclusive to nationalist socialisists.

To everyone, Cedric was only an example. I did not mean that I want him to be. Usually, I use an example, no matter how out there, or how realistic.
Don't worry too much about it, I think people are just using that as a proxy to express disdain for individuals poking trouble in this thread, less against you.

Nah bro. If she was being a Grammar Nazi you'd be droppin' an' givin' her twenty. She was pretty cool bout it. It's just to help you out later and not seem silly.. at least I don't mind my grammar being checked... o.o Sorry if you don't feel the same way... er... -runs away-
