Core Concept
Alessë is a former mercenary who abandoned a path she knew would lead to her destruction, and went on a new one to atone for her actions as a mercenary. Since they day she left and took a boat to Regalia, Alessë has been working on reconnecting with her Estelley after neglecting it for nearly a decade in order to rediscover purpose in her life. No longer does she wish to be the fire that burns and destroys people, but instead to create new things from love of the world to follow her patron Empress Sapphora. However, the shadow of her past cannot be forgotten so easily, and enough rage could cause her to slip back into it.

  • Hobbies/Talents:
    • Athletic Hobby: Not including her occupation as a blacksmith, Alessë practices various forms of physical fitness in order to keep herself in shape, and to allow her to carry anything heavy as needed. "I need to keep myself active and train daily. I can't let myself become rusty."
    • Blacksmithing: Outside of working as one, Alessë enjoys working on her own personal projects to create weapons and armor that may not look appealing, but makes up for it in durability and utility. "It's satisfying to wield what you made with your own hands."
    • Fishing: As a way to both past the time and to practice a fairly reliable skill for finding food Alessë likes to go fishing, especially on partly cloudy days. "Teach a man to fish, and you'll feed him forever."
    • Medical Hobby: Alessë's time as a mercenary taught her many things and one of these was being a combat medic. However, Alessë's skill set compared to others with this hobby is rather limited as she only focused on treating wounds enough to keep someone a live until they can get to a proper healer. The most complex things she's comfortable with include setting bones, stitching wounds, and applying medicine to help prevent infection. "I can't heal you fully, but I can make sure you'll survive until you get to a proper healer."
    • Singing: Alessë has been singing since she was around 12. While she tends to keep it private, or to close friends, she loves to sing various works. However, she only sings in Altalar due to her discomfort of speaking in Common. "Go, little one, through that valley.~"
    • Swimming: Alessë learned to swim when she was a mercenary, and when she has the chance likes to swim and dive in rivers and the ocean. To her, the world underwater has a beauty unique to it. "Going underwater feels as if I'm a different, serine world."

    • Altalar: The language Alessë was first exposed to, and has spent all of her life using. "I'll never get tired of hearing music in this tongue. It's as if Estel created the language to be used for art."
    • Common: Alessë wouldn't learn Common until after she became a mercenary, and it took her years to get the hang of it. However, she will find any chance to speak in Altalar instead, as she's never felt comfortable speaking Common. "Even after all these years, I still don't feel comfortable speaking this tongue..."
Backstory
  • Birth - ~13:
    • Alessë was born on the outskirts of Amontaar to an Ailor-Wirtem father and Teled mother. Her mother was a native Amontaaran who ran away from her family and became a merchant, and her father was a former mercenary turned blacksmith who decided to stay in Amontaar and converted from Unionism to Estelley.
    • When Alessë just over a year old, her parents had another daughter, Eyra, who Alessë would develop a bond with.
    • Alessë never spent much time with her mother due to her work, and instead spent most of her time with her father. Around nine her father began to teach her blacksmithing, and some combat techniques he used when he was a mercenary.
    • When Alessë was 12, her father's health had a rapid deterioration, part of which was when he worked as a mercenary, and soon Alessë had to take up a job to help her family. She also began learning about singing as she loved it above the other arts.
    • When Alessë was 13, before her father's death, he told her to never become a mercenary like he did, stating that "The sole purpose of mercenaries' are to prevent a perfect reality from happening.", and how this drove him to convert to Estelley.
  • ~14 - ~17:
    • After her father's death, Alessë's relationship with her mother deteriorated rapidly due to her becoming more and more reckless with her spending, especially on clothing and wine. This would slowly manifest itself for a disdain for wine, feminine clothing, and later a dislike for femininity itself.
    • Alessë began taking up any kind of job she could find, often working for a blacksmith.
    • When Alessë was 17, her relationship with her mother reached a breaking point. Her mother's spending had bankrupted the family and their future was uncertain now. Alessë and Eyra decided to leave their mother to find their own path and to avoid contacting their mother. Also at this time, Alessë changed her surname to Wilhelm, adopting her father's old surname to further distance herself from her mother.
    • A few months after leaving, Eyra decided to part ways from Alessë, and become a traveling bard to see more of the world. Eyra thanked Alessë, saying hearing her sing was what made her decide to become a bard.
  • ~18 - ~20:
    • Alessë spent a few years living on her own and working as a blacksmith in Amontaar. The pay was okay, but like her sister she too also wanted more. After some thinking Alessë decided to become a mercenary, despite her father's warning, because she figured that the work was not as bad as he made it out to be.
  • ~21 - ~28:
    • Alessë spent the next eight years working for a mercenary company that worked across various states around Amontarr. Here she learned more about combat using short blades and medium armor, fighting tactics such as ambushing, being a combat medic, and started to learn Common. At first Alessë thought her father might have been wrong, but as months turned to years she slowly began to realize that her father's words were right as the brutalities of her, and the company's actions took a toll on her over the years.
    • One night when her company was near Amontaar she decided to desert the company and sold most of her belongings from it to pay for passage to Regalia.
  • Present (31 March 315 AC onward):
    • Alessë came to Regalia trying to find what she wants and to reconnect with the Estelley faith. After settling in to the city she discovered her purpose: To serve Estelley in any way she can.
    • After being kidnapped and spending a few days following the demands of a greater demon against her will Alessë came to several personal realizations. This included the start of a dislike towards Unionism, understanding why her father may have converted to Estelley, and going back to her original name.
    • Alessë has begun entrenching herself into Regalia's various cliques from interactions with the Estelleians, Draconists, and Nobility of the city. She has also found love with someone who she believes is a model for all to follow.
Plothooks
  • Amontaari Blacksmith: From ~301-307 AC, Alessë has worked in various forges inside of Amontaar with a specialization in blades. The blades she made looked 'basic' or 'utilitarian', but they made up for this in durability and usability. Her blades could keep their edge and stay sharp longer than expected as a result, however, they still must be maintained like any other weapon.
  • Former Mercenary: From ~307-March 315 AC, Alessë used to be a mercenary for an Amontaari company infamous for its brutality and sadistic commanders. She abandoned this past behind her, however, some ghosts from this time may come back to haunt her. Her activities had her moving around various states around Amontaar:
    • 307-308 AC: Northeastern Westward
    • 308-310 AC: Unified Vassal Cities
    • 311-313 AC: Southern Basqon
    • 314 AC: Unified Vassal Cities, Bel Teledd, and Val Methen border region
    • 315 AC: Northern Bel Teledd
  • Poor Artifact Handling: Alessë was once given ownership of the artifact Ruton, however it became rather apparent she is poor at handling such powerful items. The artifact kept slipping out of her grip numerous times (nine to be exact), several of which were in front of a majority of the Aelrrigan Order. Needless to say, she's not likely to ever live this down for the rest of her life.

Combat Style
  • For attacking Alessë follows a bluntly pragmatist view for fighting: Anything goes in order to be victorious. She views codes of honor and conduct when fighting as limiting, and instead will use anything she can to overcome challenges, however, most people would view this as 'dirty fighting' to various degrees. Kicking up dirt into someone's eyes and stabbing them in the legs, back, or side in gaps of armor is just some of techniques Alessë uses. Her preferred weapon is a shortsword, but if needed can use a dagger and has no problems using her first or improvised weapons as a last resort. "I don't intend to follow a code in the fields of war, nor should you if you want to improve your odds of coming out alive."
  • For defending Alessë mainly uses her reflexes and dexterity to dodge incoming attacks. This allows her, if she dodged successfully, to exploit any openings her opponent has. However, she also makes use of medium armor as fallback protection if she's unable to dodge an attack. Her armor primarily protects her chest and back, and provides protection for the exterior sides of her arms and hands. However her lower body, especially her thighs, is vulnerable as she keeps this section of her body light as possible to help with movement. "Dodging instead of blocking is risky, but the rewards of doing so successfully pay off."
Trivia/Facts about Alessë
  • Despite being raised in Teled culture, Alessë doesn't know much about magic due to her father's wariness of it, and her mother not teaching it. "My knowledge of magic? ...Uh, magic exists?"
  • Alessë will eat just about anything as long as it's edible. Having both been in poverty for a time and limited food choices as a mercenary, she developed an 'eat what you're given' attitude over the years. "Food is food. Just eat it."
Likes/Dislikes
  • Likes:
    • Berries: Alessë has loved berries ever since she was a child, and in most cases won't say 'no' when offered some. "Berries? I'd love some!"
    • Singing: Alessë has been singing since she was around 12. While she tends to keep it private, or to close friends, she loves to sing various works. However, she only sings in Altalar due to her discomfort of using Common. "This is one of my favorite works. Took me months to get my pitch right though."
    • Tea: Unsurprisingly, Alessë, like other Teleds, is a habitual tea drinker and will frequently order some when eating. She also has a personal goal to try every, or as many as she can, tea varieties out in the world. "I'll have your best teas, please."
  • Dislikes:
    • Alcohol: After getting drunk once and nearly getting drunk again, Alessë has sworn off drinking, mainly though because she doesn't want to be like her mother. "It's better for everyone that I'm not drunk."
      • Wine: Due to all the wine her mother bought, which was the main thing that drove her family into financial ruin, Alessë hates wine above all other kinds of alcoholic drinks. "I'm not drinking, let alone touching, that poison."
    • Artifacts: Alessë was once given ownership of the artifact Ruton, however after dropping it numerous times, and her lack of knowledge of artifacts and magic made her think it tried to kill her when attempting to wear it, she surrendered it after roughly six hours of owning it thinking that the artifact didn't want her as its owner. She now fears artifacts in general as a result of this experience "Get that thing away from me!"
    • Hypocrisy: After several experiences involving this from her mother and mercenary company, Alessë has developed a strong disdain for hypocrisy. "You're not only lying to others, but to yourself as well."
    • Unionism: After being kidnapped by a greater demon, and seeing several examples from Unionists she viewed as horrible people, Alessë has recently developed a dislike towards this faith. "I think I can understand why my father abandoned Unionism and converted to Estelley now."
In-depth personality explanation
  • Strangers, Barely Known, or Untrusted Individuals:
    • Alessë, for the most part, doesn't stand out from the crowd. She's willing to display most of her emotions and thoughts in public to those who she isn't familiar with. She's also well mannered, willing to make jokes on occasion, and kind in most cases. However, when it comes to certain things such as romance or information Alessë doesn't want to become public, she will either be vague, tell half-truths, or even lie to keep it hidden. Lying especially doesn't make Alessë happy, but unless she trusts the person she doesn't want to take risks.
  • Friends and Trusted Individuals:
    • Alessë is more or less the same as described previously, however, she is more open to certain emotions coming out and refuses to ever lie to her friends, though she will still be vague or even shut down a conversation about things she doesn't wish to discuss. Alessë is willing to hear friends out even if she doesn't have advice to help and, outside of extraordinary circumstances, would never break the trust given to her by a friend.
  • In Combat:
    • In order to prevent her opponents from trying to analyze her, Alessë spent years training to prevent showing emotions while fighting. However, how much harm she inflicted as a mercenary has also made her learn how to numb herself from what she did. This has resulted in her keeping a blank, empty stare as she fights. It's clear to anyone that someone is still there, but it's hard to say if can feel anything in this state. However, she is still flesh and bone and will make grunts, moans, and yelps of pain depending on what struck her in combat.
