Aha! Hello. It'sa me, bag man, compiling a list (from my personal opinion) on the most compelling, to least compelling races. This list will not contain subraces, or super duper in depth lore, it will just be, from a quick, personality and appearance and overall originality, on how appealing they are! So yeah. Let's begin.
Most Compelling Race list!
1. Kathar. I find Kathar to be, by far, one of the most compelling races to play in game. Sure they may not be the most unique in idea or execution, But I think this simplicity adds to them, You know exactly what your playing with an evil dark elf. You're playing an evil dark elf, corrupted by dark magic. It sounds cool, and it's really good because they are easily identifiable as the 'baddies'. Although, further reading shows that they can break away from the norm.
2. Yanar. I find yanar to be quite compelling to play, especially since they feel unique, their lore is pretty substantial and they have a good 'clique' which they fill. They are unique in appearance, plant people. And I feel as though they carry a somewhat more interesting tone and fluidity throughout RP. You never really know what your in for when you see a Yanar.
3. Slizzar. Slizzar are pretty compelling for one defining reason, their lore, it is rich in both background but also, the basics are so indulgent and enjoyable to read through. A Slizzar is a shape shifting snake for crying out loud, how can that not make you a little bit interested in playing them?
4. Orc. I know, a weird pick right? But a true one, why? Well, unlike most RP or indeed fiction, the orcs of massive break away from their norm, they have the capacity to think and feel emotion, they form bonds, they are still muscle bound brutes, but with a sense of uniqueness about them.
5. Altalar. Ah, the elven race, these guys, oo, these guys are cool, what makes them so good to play in RP is they actually do have a wide range of cliques they can fall into, thus making them compelling, plus elves, man c'mon.
6. Sihai. Sihai are just really cool, the whole moon cycle thing and their lore makes them incredibly unique, plus the population boom of players RPing as them means that its fun and easy to find kin to muck about with.
7. Quadir/Songaskia. While these two races are different in so many amazing ways, I thought to shorten the list i'd put them together, they have unique lore, and both a unique style that I quite like, plus their personalities always seem so firey yet patient, and I love them to bits.
8. Allar, while compelling, with plenty of customisation options, I feel as though they fit a niche, but, not to a degree where it's uncompelling, as the niche attempted to fill, is a compelling one, plus lizard people are the best.
The rest of the list is what I find, not so compelling ;-;
9. Maraia. While Maraia are cool and do certainly have a great aesthetic, I feel as though they, and more to the point their subraces, where created to fill nothing more than cliques and niches. While all races in RP suffer from this, they seem to be solely made for this.
10 Avanthar. While they are cool and can certainly be used in a wide range of goals and the likes, I feel as though I'm just, uncompelled by them, and I don't know why. which leads us onto
11. Cielothar. Again, a wonderful and cool concept, but one I think falls flat, as, in my opinion, don't the yanar already technically fill the niche this species is attempting to portray? albeit with a different aesthetic.
12. Isldar. OO, controversial, while the Isldar are cool (puns, I got them) and while they are very interesting, after seeing them IC and all, I feel less and less compelled to pick one up and play, as they feel, slightly, boring social RP wise, they all seem to have a similar, personality, or rather, they are not only clones In appearance, but also personality, which loses the compelling aspect, for me
13. Ailor. Ah yes, humans, what more is there to say really? Well a lot, over-usage of sub-races and lack of unique feel makes the ailor fall flat on their face, they appeal to a niche and that niche is dominance, and yet, they have a setback, which kills them, Their maximum age means you sacrifice thins, for character application points. That and, their just, humans, y'know?
14. Dwarves. I'll be, honest here, I forget, a lot of the time, these guys even exist, like seriously, I do. That's it really, they're just a forgettable race.
15. And finally, I think, Sihndar. The most forgettable race, they fill a niche, but the problem is is that, nearly every other race can fill said niche, want to be a vampire hunter, ANY race can do that, but there is a race made specifically for that job, that, again, is uncompelling.
Sub-races, ect, where forgotten about, and manathar.
P.S! Just realised I forgot Varran and Url, oops
Uh, they are compelling, for sure, Url sort of, fit like the, if you want to be a brute but not an orc, feel, and their lore is again cool, and Varran are, cat people, which fills a niche, but it's kinda nice? I can see the two sides, both of these fit into both catagories imo as well, so their kinda down here
