☬ Chlevestes ☬
( Pronounced "Sh Leh Vaze Tez" )
Introduction
Chlevestes, often referred to as the Ruby Sighted, is an old guild of thieves and spies, which has seen several resurrections over the last hundred years. Despite what the name may indicate, the vast majority of members have traditionally not been vampires.
The guild focus is in stealth and subtlety. Though they have had many objectives in the past over their several forms, ranging from thievery to anarchy, the primary goal of the current form is information- the obtainment and use of it more specifically.
History
In the winter of 197 AC, the original Chlevestes Guild was formed in the Sewers of Regalia by a Baron whose real name has been lost to time. However, the title he lead the Guild under is known to be "The Blind King". The Guild dabbled in many criminal activities, from kidnapping and slavery, to pickpocketing and burglary, however, the reign of The Blind King was cut short when his identity was discovered, and he was publicly beheaded by the City Guard. It is worth noting that The Blind King was not, in fact, actually Blind. The intent behind his name may have been to mislead, or perhaps it held some deeper meaning. None know for sure.
The Guild quickly fell into disarray after The Blind King's execution, and it fell out of relevance for three years before it was finally reformed by one of The Blind King's Hands, a man who took the title "The Audacious King". True to his taken title, he quickly struck out his forces on several high profile jobs, robbing several High Noble families' estates over the next year. This ultimately culminated in the group taking the personal ire of the Lord Commander of the Guard, who- after several hard fought campaigns into the Sewers, managed to capture nearly two thirds of the Chlevestes, including The Audacious King, and had them publicly hanged.
The guild went silent for many years, until nearly all in the city and even the undercity had nearly forgotten them. And then, in 263 AC, came "The Cheerful King". This new leader was far more cautious than the last two, setting up his contacts and informants far in advance before his open declaration. This King's focus was also on the more subtle- information, and spies. With his vast informant network, he gathered and sold information to both Gangs, Cults, and eventually even some Nobility, making himself and the Chlevestes an asset to its customers. Little is known about the fall of this iteration. Some speculate that a business deal with a powerful noble went wrong, or that The Cheerful King died of natural- or unnatural- causes, but no matter how it befell, the reign of The Cheerful King ended, and with it, the Chlevestes once again faded, being held together for only a few more years by the King's Hands.
Finally, we come to the modern day, where rumors have begun to spread once more of a new rise of the Chlevestes, lead in a very similar fashion to The Cheerful King's guild, headed by one calling themself "The Canny King". Before the destruction of the Main Sewers, posters were seen, marked with the Ruby Hand sigil of the Chlevestes, with a riddle of sorts. If any solved the riddle, they did not speak out about what they found. But one way or another, it seems the Chlevestes have returned once more.
OOC
The Chlevestes is an information gathering group, that delves into thievery and allies itself with thieves- as they are the sneakiest of the lot. However, many ordinary people, many even unaware, are a part of the Chlevestes' network.
Ranks
The Canny King - Unknown. The secretive and reclusive leader of the guild.
The Gray - The King's second in command, and the face of the group.
The Ruby Hands - Two people under The Gray, in charge of many of daily operations of the guild.
The Watchers - High-Profile informants. Spies of exceptional skill, or whom are exceptionally well placed.
The Listeners - The average member of the Guild, tasked with any number of jobs.
The Blind - The lowest tier, non-members of the guild. They are often not even aware they are in the guild, being kept in the dark as to who they work for.
