His life spent under the open sky has left him with course, tanned skin, and he has already developed slight creases on his forehead and cheeks. His shoulders are broad, and his muscles toned from long hours of physical exercise and martial training. The naturally hard life of the plains-dwellers has left him lean, with little body fat but a decent amount of muscle. He carries himself proudly, with a straight back and chin held high, accentuating his relatively tall stature. Surlegtei's voice is naturally low and gravelly, accented by his native Sintil language, considered coarse and harsh by most other Ailor. He tends to speak rather quietly, however, at times falling almost to a whisper. Personality and Abilities Option One: The Question List How would your character express Happiness and Contentedness? Surlegtei most often expresses contentedness calmly and inwardly, perhaps cracking a smile. He is boisterous at times, however, and will not hesitate to make it known when something is funny, or beautiful. He will sometimes show a genuine and heartfelt expression of affection, such as a hand clapped upon a shoulder, if he wishes to share his happiness with another. When he's truly elated (or has had perhaps a good amount of liquid cheer) he may boisterously declare his happiness to the world, often accompanied by song and religious thanks to Aspaniesi. How would your character respond to experiencing Fear? Surlegtei is a bit too proud to be comfortable showing fear, and would likely try to swallow it for the sake of honor. When truly shaken, he tends to find comfort in a hand on a weapon, as his eyes dart to-and-fro, even when the object of his fear isn't physical at all. If all else fails, he will begin to pray. How would your character respond to experiencing Stress? Surlegtei is not a man who becomes stressed easily; he has an extremely strong inward peace. When he does become stressed, Surlegtei is likely to be pushed to immediate action or, barring that, attempt to calm down through one of his five ways; prayer, nature, women, drink, or song. How does your character view Law and Authorities? For Surlegtei, a personal code of honor and the commandments of his gods are perhaps the most important things in life. He believes that life has its own natural laws, set in stone. Should man-made law and authority correspond to this higher law, Surlegtei is content. Should they differ, Surlegtei will remain defiant until death. How does your character feel about Races other than their own? Like most Qússrakón, Surlegtei has a great deal of respect for (and attraction to) Avanthar, a soft spot for Cielothar, and a religious devotion to Yanar. He views most other races as tolerable, though often corrupted by their "civilized" ways. Kathar are distasteful, but under the right circumstances might be tolerated. Orcs, however, he cannot stand; they are an eternal and ancestral adversary. How does your character feel about Religion for themselves, and other faiths? Surlegtei's life and thoughts revolve heavily around spirituality, and his trust in his religion and the shamanic traditions of his people is near-absolute; he was training to be a shaman before leaving his homeland. He is not a zealot, however, for the simple fact that he believes in a broad range of spirits, and sees divine law as manifesting itself through many forms. He does not believe in other religions as true in and of themselves, but rather that his religion naturally encompasses many of the beliefs of those around him. He is deeply suspicious of Unionism, however, because he sees its organizational structure as stifling and antagonistic towards his way of life. How does your character feel about the Arcane and Magical in the world? Like most Qússrakón, Surlegtei sees magic as a natural extension of the spiritual, rightly wielded by shamans and wise men. He fears darker magics, however, because he believes that they have far-reaching spiritual consequences. You could call him superstitious, though he may very well have a point. How does your character feel towards their family? Surlegtei's family is large, as his father had many wives, and he is closer to some than others. He was given some special attention by his father, along with some of his siblings, and he is perhaps closer to these than most Qússrakón are to their families. Whatever the case, his loyalty to his clan is boundless. What is your character the most proud of about themselves? Surlegtei is proud of his heritage, his people, and his homeland. Less vocally, perhaps, he is also rather proud of his honor. What motivates your character to move forward and better their life? Surlegtei is fundamentally curious, and driven to explore the world around him. His inner self, however, is always centered around his people and his sacred homeland, and in all things he hopes to benefit them. With the recent turmoil in Daen, Surlegtei believes that answers may lie outside the Qússrakón plains, not within them, and he hopes to bring those answers back. What is your character's biggest insecurity? Surlegtei is not a very sensitive man by most standards. By the standards of the Qússrakón, however, he fears that he is. He fears that he is too friendly, too forgiving, and not quite battle-hardened enough. In Regalia, he is insecure about his illiteracy. What is your character's biggest fear? Surlegtei's greatest fear is that his people will be crushed by their enemies, and that their way of life will be lost to the ages. This would leave him without a place in the world, and largely without a purpose. Expansion Surlegtei is absolutely enamoured with the plains of his homeland. The horses, the grasses, the sky, the yurts, and everything else. To him, it is a holy paradise that contains everything a man might ever truly want. Of course, he happily affirms that this includes hardship to make men strong. In some aspects, Surlegtei's outlook on life might be called extremely peculiar. What many people see as fundamentally different or opposed, he tends to see as simply one part of the same whole. This unifying ideology of his is manifested in many of his views. For example, Surlegtei sees all beauty and enjoyment as part of the same whole. He doesn't make much distinction between the beauty of a mountain, a flower, a song, a horse, good food and drink, beautiful women, or anything else. To him, it's all simply a part of life, to be enjoyed. He is not a simple hedonist; to him, enjoyment of the gods' blessings is a spiritual good. Surlegtei takes great care not to become addicted to anything, because he sees addiction as a violation of one's free will, which is a grave breach of Aspianesi's command to be free like the wind. In the same vein, Surlegtei greatly fears and detests all forms of magic that unwillingly alter a person's mental or emotional state. To him, anyone who is caught doing this to another person should be put to death on the spot for such a grave breach of freedom. In the course of his shamanic training, Surlegtei was taught how to throat-sing and use the ceremonial drum. Life Story Yesügeiin Surlegtei was born on the harsh plains of Daen, to the Kiz-Khagan of a minor Qússrakón clan, Yesügei, and one of his many wives. As a newborn he contracted a fatal illness- but rather than dying outright, he was offered to his clan's obscure god of death and hunters, thus causing his latent magespark to become Ordial, soulchained to the Hunter. Like his many brothers, he grew up learning to ride, fight, and survive in the nomadic environment, often moving to greener grazing lands and skirmishing with whatever enemies (or victims, as the case may be) might reveal themselves on the way; he came to love his nutag - his homeland - as a place with deep spiritual connection to him. He was, however, also given to the shamans- made to interact with the spirits he seemed so attuned to, and learn to control his powers. While he did easily grasp spiritual concepts and the magic he trained, he had a warrior’s temperament. He still learned trained with the bow and spear, and his father taught him to hunt with the white falcon - Tsaagan - that had bonded with him as a boy. Unlike many of his kin, however, Surlegtei was born with an insatiable curiosity. He often rode out alone to seek undiscovered spots, or meet with travellers from far off lands, sometimes to the dismay of his superiors. His spirit was naturally as free as the whirling wind, and it wasn't long before it took him far away from his home. It is not usual for a Qússrakón to leave their home, but Surlegtei knew that the elders and shamans often spoke of trouble brewing, that their ways were in distant danger of fading under the Regalian boot, and it was as though a force seized him. He became obsessed with learning first-hand about the world abroad as few of his kin did. The fact that a nearby, more powerful Kiz-Khagan was rather upset at Surlegtei for spending a bit too much time with his daughter may also have had something to do with his decision to leave, but he isn't quite as eager to recall that part of his story. Whatever the case, by his mid-twenties he had left his clan to see what else the world has to offer, though always keeping his homeland in his heart, planning to return some day. He spent several years among the Avanthar nearby - being Exist-based mutations during his time among these people - before more recently travelling on to the western shores of Daen. Now that conflict has broken out in his sacred plains, he is especially keen to see what chances his place in the world can afford him to better the lot of his struggling people. He was finally driven to the Crown Isle of Regalia in 307 AC (despite the fact that he continually complained that the whole place reeks to High Heaven). While there he quickly found belonging among the Shademarsh Colony of Petal Court, easily assimilating to their half-wild way of life. He engaged in many of their rituals, and eventually took on the Hállëvandëia family as a second clan, with Azëlloa in the place of a father and Kiz-Khagan. Azëlloa's death changed his place, and now he wanders the city- learning, and determining precisely what he wishes to do.
1 point over. Other than that, approved, feel free to tag me if you lose the tag making the minor edit.
Made a major edit to proficiencies and backstory, which also altered physical build. I'd appreciate a re-review! @Caelamus
@Caelamus Basically no edits were necessary for the new Prof update but the various musical profs were collapsed into one prof. Edit: And also racials were changed oops. Fixed it.
