Core Concept |​

A 'man' crafted from shadows and bound by the arcane. His existence the result of a long dead Kathar's dark ambitions. Created for but a singular purpose - to serve as the ultimate assassin and eliminate potent political rivals in The Dread Empire.

The shadow-born Ephemer carried out his master's bidding without question. Yet, when the Kathar met an untimely demise, the nameless magical killer found himself at a crossroads. With his creator gone he chose an unexpected path—to retire from the shadows and seek solace in a simpler life as a barkeeper.

Amidst barrels of ale and the clinking of mugs, the shadow-man, now known as 'Walter Wraith Finch', found a semblance of peace. He became a storyteller, regaling patrons with legendary tales of his violent past. However, as the patrons revel in his stories, Walter's eyes betray a glimmer of the darkness that still lingers within him.

Despite his desire for a quiet life, Walter is aware of his true purpose and the skills which define him. With this innate understanding of his capabilities he, in moments of reflection, acknowledges the twisted pleasure he derives from his lethal skills. Indeed the retired assassin may yearn for a peaceful existence, but when the right price is offered, his dormant skills awaken and he becomes a harbinger of shadows once more.

Cloaked in a weather-beaten coat, Walter's most common appearance displays the visage of an old fisherman, the lines etched on his weathered face telling false tales of a lifetime spent battling the unpredictable waves of the sea. Fine stubble clings to his strong jaw, and a coarse, sea-salt scent lingers around him.

But in the blink of an eye, these features shift and ebb and flow into another. Lines smooth, weathered skin tightens, old grey hair fills with colour. One moment a rotund ginger with chubby cheeks, the next a slender, sunken face with jet-black hair.

The shapeshifter rarely wears the same face for long, though when he isn't hiding his identity, he can be recognised by his glazed grey eyes, which stay the same across each transformation.

His "true" appearance is near formless shadow, appearing like thick black smoke.

◆ Bartender

Walter can be found working as a bartender in any venue that'll accept one of his many false-faces. It's rare for Walter to actively hide his identity; he can be recognised by his glazed, grey eyes. He's available for hire as event staff.​

◆ Knife For Hire

Although Walter enjoys his now quieter life, his old skills are nearly always available for the right price. Walter was created as a weapon, and this fact is apparent whenever he embraces violence. He relies on the power of Void Shadow Magic to conceal his approach, alongside considerable experience in a vast array of weapons which he can summon at a moment's notice. ​

◆ Homunculi Mentor

Walter has a soft spot for fellow Homunculi, especially those who are still 'enslaved' and not properly paid or rewarded for their service. He'll offer them advice, typically align himself with what he believes are their best interests, and immediately aid them in 'breaking chains' as he calls it, and killing their masters.​
