Okay. This is my first theory so if there is flaws, feel free to mention them in a POSITIVE and constructive way!

Anyway. I'm a Tigran fanatic. My main is a Tigran named Shae Wren. But it's always frustrated me the lack of history and lore behind them thanks to them being enslaved and their history erased. So I did a bit... okay a LOT of research. And I came up with this theory...

While many races can be aggressive and hateful, I've never heard of a race who just suddenly decided to enslave another just because they could. So then why did the Nelfin enslave the Tigran?

Now it has been discovered from what Tigran temples and ruins remain, that Tigrans were incredibly advanced in technology. Far beyond that of even the dwarfs. Wires and such found in temples suggested they might have even had electricity. It was thought that because of the advancements in said technology, that the Nelfin felt threatened and decided to destroy the rising race. Because the Nelfin race is a race known for magic, they easily took down the Tigran, who avoided and lacked the ability to cast.

However I dont think their technology was the real reason. Many races in real life history have been enslaved yet their culture and history remained in tact. Its a choice by the enemy to destroy history. So then why did they choose to destroy anything and everything that gave a glimpse into the life and origins of the Tigran?

It's because they are hiding something.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Here is a quote from the Tigran wiki from the Trivia section.
  • Scholars have noted that dissected Tigrans cannot be told apart from dissected Elves. Their internals look almost identical, coupled with their strangely similar ears. Elves denounce this information as pure ridicule and racism towards them, but Human scholars often suggest more behind it.
Almost identical? How could that be? It's because Tigrans were actually once Nelfin.
In today's magic lore, we n0w know there is a kind of magic that can in fact cause mutations. Corruption magic. Here are a few quotes from the Corruption Magic Wiki.
This is what it looks like when a mage uses Corruption Form.
  • The Corruption mage's skin will turn raven black, and their eye-whites will warp dark gray while their irises shift red. The caster's teeth will also sharpen and enlarge, particularly their canines, with large black curling horns grow from their head. They grow roughly half a foot taller, while their body build changes from their lanky Elven form to a more muscular Ailor equivalent. Most fearsome of these changes, the user's hands will become twice as large with razor sharp claws. Corrupt Form cures any inherent flaw and disability the caster may have before transforming. A removed limb will regrow, dulled nerve endings will return, and even blindness or deafness is cured to a degree while the caster is in Corruption Form. Sadly, once the mage has stopped casting, their body and senses will revert back to how they once functioned. On average, any Corrupt Form user will gain the strength of an Orc with the speed of a Huaman. Mentally, they retain their state of mind prior to the transformation, but certain emotions and feelings are completely shut off while in Corrupt Form, namely fear, love, compassion, self-doubt, insecurity, and uncertainty. Some feelings are also heightened in intenseness, namely aggression, hate, anger, and betrayal. Corrupt Form is instantly attainable by any mage who learns this form of magic, but has a complex time management system to avoid the negative drawbacks.
Interesting mention of beast like features hm? Now I know this is a bit of a stretch. Even I thought so. Until I looked a little more at the next ability within Corruption magic.
  • Some freedom exists for the mage to dictate what they look like when they transform to their corrupt form. During the spell casting, they may invoke the rage of a specific animal that they are familiar with or have seen, which can transform their head into a shape similar to that of said animal
  • When a Corruption form mage chooses to mutate their head also, the head becomes more extremely mutated each time they progress to the next stage. Teeth might become more crooked and longer, fur might grow wilder and coarse and horns may become serrated or crooked.
You cannot tell me this does not look even a little suspicious?
1. Nelfin are a huge magical race
2. Magic is unpredictable and accidents often happen
3. Same internal anatomy as Tigran?
4. A magic exists that can make someone look incredibly, scarily, similar to a Tigran.
5. Nelfin erase Tigran history and origins.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

What does this all add up to? The story I propose is this.

Somewhere in the Nelfin world, A corruption mage trying to take on Corrupt Form had a terrible accident. Something went horribly wrong while he took on the mutation of a wild cat. His mind remained in tact however his head looked like a tigran, he had massive hands with claws and fur on his body. Canines enhanced as the lore said, and far taller and stronger then normal Nelfin. Because he remained stuck half way in his form, a specific part of his emotions that allowed him to connect to the void to cast magic was cut off, leaving him in his state of half corruption.
Through the miracle of love, or a really stupid person with a thing for animals, the mutated mage had children, and overtime the children passed on from this mutant became the Tigran race. Slow evolving into what they were before enslavement.

Now the Nelfin are a very prideful race, but I can imagine they would turn a blind eye to what they would consider to be a race of abominations. Or they would until the race began to advance...
Again, the tigran race started to flourish and rise in the world of technology. Civilized and growing... While the Tigran may have not been a well known race up until that point, at the rate they were expanding, the world was bound to take notice of their existence. And ask how said race came to be..

The proud, prideful Nelfin. Can you imagine them admitting, that a race born from corruption magic had risen up and in fact surpassed the Nelfin race itself? That their own creations, their mistake, had become more successful than them? I cant. And with such a discovery, it would throw the world into all kinds of political chaos. A race born from magic? You can imagine the uproar it would cause.

So then what did the Nelfin do when the Tigran's were rising up and above them? Well the Nelfin still had one thing the Tigran's never would. Magic. The rest is history. Literally. History then stated that the Nelfin went and enslaved the entire Tigran race, destroying every shred of history they could find. And with the Tigran history gone... They also had successfully covered up this origin of the Tigran. They hid the fact that Tigran's were once Nelfin, born from magic corruption.

BUT HEY. THAT'S JUST A THEORY.

I know it's bound to have flaws but I cannot help but think this might be at least close to the real reason behind the Tigran enslavement. I'm way open to constructive criticism and I wanna hear your ideas! Hope you all liked it! I'd love if Lore staff gave this a look too!

Thanks guys! Hope you enjoyed!

I don't believe that this theory can say it started from one alone. To add, I'd say that the first hundred or so mages to discover /create Corrupt Form were likely incredible failures before the school's ultimate perfection. Before we go any further, I think we should point out just why the Elves would invest in such a magic... The most basic being that Nelfin is naturally weak and should they be able to manipulate the void as they have done before, they might even get to a temporary form in which to boost both threat perception and attack capacity. Let's say that this was their initial reasoning behind the creation. We could then say that... Mages who made use of this became addicted to the power gained as such strength had never been seen amongst the Nelfin kind before. Some might even desire a halfway form.

'the Tigrans "Made offense to Estel with their ways, offending the very nature of things" The exact meaning of this has never been fully understood' - Taken from the Tigran History page. We know that Tigrans cannot link with the exist or the void. The Nelfin are generally not of the stupid variety and one who possesses the mind of one would likely have good potential and surely be (in lore) quite against the deity that gave them no refuge from their tainted state. Deciding that this 'goddess' had forsaken them, the 'Tigran' abandon their Elven brethren to pursue sciences and technology. I think it's cool how this relates to the modern world: People may say that without religion, technology would have flourished and... 'The Nelfin are generally not of the stupid variety and one who possesses the mind of one would likely have good potential' going back to what I said, these would be Nelfin to begin with and without the influence of Estel and the fascination of magic, what could they put their minds to?

History summary:

1. Many Mages desire to boost the strength of their form quite permanently (Corrupt Form is studied).
2. Corrupt magic changes appearance to an insane level or the mages make adjustments which lead to said disaster due to arrogance.
3. Something happens to sever their connection (perhaps they all have a connection which distorts appearance but no means of controlling? I think this makes sense that Tigrans can't cast due to being stuck in Corrupt form)
4. The "Tigran" abandon the Nelfin after discovering they cannot use their gifts (magic) and because Estel is paying no mind to their suffering (There is no god!)
5. Hate spreads toward Estel and "Tigrans" begin to follow a scientific path to parallel against Estel... The Nelfin put their minds toward this research for some time.
6. Advanced technology such as electricity is possible amongst other things.
7. The Nelfin realize that this world without Estel flourishes and begin to harbor both a distrust and hatred for their brethren... Their warcry to be 'The unnatural way' but allow Estel to decide their fate, though hatred grows.
8. The Tigran have become spread and confident enough to denounce Estel right before the Nelfin's leaders... Despite wondrous shifts in technology, as well as potent evidence that Estel may not be a divine deity as their ways suggest... The Nelfin cut the cord on any supplies they may have given, label the Tigran monstrosities and heretics to the way of Estel before reducing their civilization to dust.

This is mostly speculation (as is this theory) but it seems to be a fair enough guide for something more? Either way, I'd love to hear opinions on the thing altogether as well as constructive criticisms on the ideas in this post.

It's quite an interesting idea!

@MonMarty may disprove or approve of Flares theory one day, I hope. Just as long as he doesn't say "Find out IC" because that'd be a lot of work.

The only inherent flaw I can find is that it doesn't really account for the time progression required. I don't think it's specifically stated somewhere, but the Tigran civilization predates the formation of the first Elven Empire, or is assumed to predate them anyway because first contact between the two races is fairly advanced after the formation of the Empire, at which point the Tigrans were already what they were.

The actual reality is far more depressing for the Elves. But I'm not going to spoil that : D You did speculate correctly on some of the side matters though.

Back to snooping around for answers! Did not know about the predating of the Tigran before elven. I'll add it to my notes!

@flareskies I actually did have 2 forums similar to this where I went into detail about the hypothetical Ancient Tigran Empire and the very possibility that the Tigrans predated the Seraph themselves... While I'm no longer as sure about the Seraph-Predation theory, I think one of the more generally accepted theory's that I've heard before this was that during the Void Invasions, a group of Nelfin in Ithanian deserts were heavily corrupted and became Tigrans... However, that also doesn't follow with the clarified part that the Tigrans predate the Nelfin according to the Mon's post here... Or maybe I misread.

Either way... We should totally make some Grand Tigran Theorem or something about how Tigrans are the Master Race. Because yay Tigrans.

Technically speaking. Dakkar are from around that time as well. They could have very well co-existed (as hunter-gatherers) with the seraph. But thats a different thread.

Hey guys! After the wonderful comments left by you guys and Smarty @MonMarty, me and my friend @Anseran been looking even further into the scary depths of the Wiki to find more information to unlock the Tigran secrets. While we cannot make a completely solid new theory with the facts we've learned, I thought you guys might like to know a few of the facts we've found so you can speculate for yourselves!

First fact. We now know for a complete fact when and how the Tigran were created. While it never states on the Tigran lore itself where the Tigran came from, here are two quotes, one from the Ur and one from the Thylan Wikis.

  • Along with the other Dargon species, the Thylans and Tigrans, they are long descended from the primitive animals corrupted during the first Void invasion.
  • Descended from the primitive animals and beasts who found themselves affected by the corruption from the first Void Invasion, alongside their Dargan brethren, the Ur and Tigran races

With these two quotes, we know that the Tigran were, in fact, once animals. They were created from corruption caused by the first Void invasion. We can also deduce that if this is the case, the Tigrans as a race were created right after the downfall of the Seraph. Making Tigrans, Thylan, and Ur, the second oldest species to exist in this world.

So we've already proven my first theory wrong. But hey. That's how we learn right? After figuring out the timelines, we have based the new theory around the idea that Nelfin actually evolved or somehow stemmed from the Tigran.

Another fun fact we've come upon is that Tigran originated from Ithania. Here is a quote from the Ithania to help back this up.

  • While the lands of Ithania were full of promise and resources, it remained remote and distinctly separated from the influence of other continents for a number of years. While the Tigran race inhabited the land, they were not large settlements and did not have a heavy impact on the land itself; they did not have the ambitions to build cities and towns and lived in a more primitive fashion.
The wiki does state that there isn't enough evidence to completely solidify that Ithania is where Tigrans originated from. However, It does state that the land was remote and separated from outside life. It also states the Tigrans lived "primitively" and are mostly survival oriented. With those two ideas in mind, if Ithania had all they needed for survival, and was remote and detached from other life, I think it's safe to say that where the Tigran started, would be where the Tigran stayed. Here is another quote:

  • Beyond the backdrop of racial history, the land of Ithania in and of itself is varied and rich beyond compare. Ithania is home to a wide range of climates from jungles to deserts to swamplands. Its jungles are dense, filled with towering trees with drooping vines and water dripping off the leaves from the humid temperatures. In comparison, its deserts are vast and arid with little rain or shade as cacti are the dominant inhabitants in the sun-beaten, golden sand dunes. Still further are the swamplands, immense and hot; the Ithanian swamps have soft, mushy ground where a footprint will fill in with water, erasing traces of any creature's existence. The climate is so varied that even snow is found dusting some of Ithania's mountaintops, though the largest biomes found in Ithania all share one dominant trait in common: heat.

Ithania has biomes of almost every kind. It wouldn't be a big stretch to think that the Tigrans could easily find a place in their homeland to settle down. And with all they ever needed for survival right here in Ithania, they would have no reason to leave.

There are a few roadblocks that are giving us trouble. When trying to put together our theory there are a few things to think about.

We're sure Nelfin some how descended from Tigrans. But...

1. How does a race that lives 70 years evolve or change into one that lives for hundreds of years?
2. Where did all the fur go?
3. How did a race that had no ability to cast magic, evolve or change into one who rely's solely on magic?

Those are our biggest questions. We have a few theories that could justify these but no real evidence to back it up... yet.

However with all that said, that does it for the update and I really really really want to hear what you guys have to think on all this. Have an idea? Post it! We'll take all the ideas we can get to help solve this. And remember-

THAT'S JUST A THEORY..
A LORE THEORY!

Thanks for reading!
Flare.

We're sure Nelfin some how descended from Tigrans. But...
But now I'm curious what the Seraph looked like. Since Seraph are the oldest race. And now if it is known that Tigrans and other Dargons are the second oldest races, it raises some more questions. It says on the Seraph wiki that "..scripture found in Seraph ruins suggest they had golden eyes, and stark white hair." HAIR. So that wouldn't be fur or something more animal-like, right? So did the Seraph look more Nelfin-like or Human-like than animal-like? If so that may contradict that Nelfin-looks did come after from Tigrans, if, Seraph did look more Nelfin-like than animal-like, since than, a more Nelfin-looking race would of come first. And then maybe Elves did not descend from Tigrans?

Quote from the Estel wiki page, " ..the statue she's imprisoned in resembles a Seraph woman." ..What does an Estel statue look like?

Does it say on the wiki that only Tigrans share the anatomy of Elves and not the other Dargon races with them? ..Just makes an idea pop in my head that the Seraph turned into the Tigrans. Maybe even by a curse from Estel, void corruption, or something else. ..If they even looked Nelfin-like before. But then that contradicts your new findings of that the Dargon races were all formed from corrupted animals.

Dakkar may be as old if not older ;-;

I looked up that Dakkar mention. It said their existence started a few thousand years before the Elven empire. However at best, the Dakkar are from the same time period. But not any older. More then likely they came right after the creation of the Dargon races.

The only inherent flaw I can find is that it doesn't really account for the time progression required. I don't think it's specifically stated somewhere, but the Tigran civilization predates the formation of the first Elven Empire, or is assumed to predate them anyway because first contact between the two races is fairly advanced after the formation of the Empire, at which point the Tigrans were already what they were.

inb4 forming a void/exist connection mutated some tigrans into the nelfin

The answers actually on the forums, I won't spoil it here though, but it paints a pretty good picture of what was going on.
That sounds like pretty burning evidence.
It would be a shame if someone set fire to it.

(If it is the thing that I'm thinking of that I think you're thinking of...

Who's ready to see a dead thread revived! I know I am!

Hello everyone and welcome back to LORE THEORY with your favorite Tigran- *COUGH* I mean Varran, Shae Wren!

As much as I wish I could use information from my old theories, Varrans got a rewrite and I cant garuntee info from the past is still compliant, so this theory will be entirely based upon Varrans after the rewrite was made... with a hint of older lore that I cant imagine would change even after the rewrite. Lets hop into it!

Now in recent RP events, @MonMarty held a lovely little event where he played an oracle who could tell you the truth of any event in history's past. I saw a lot of great questions proposed but I opted to use mine in the most predictable way possible. Looking for Varran information. More specifically, I asked the Oracle what the truth was of the Fallen Varran Empire. What the culture was like, what led to its downfall, and why the history was erased. This is, word for word, the answer I got.

We see a land torn from south to north, a land in conflict but not at war. A border made of pearlescent and brass. A border of magic and machine. Great brass claws gnawing at the forests like termites but in the thousands, the cries of the pearlescent and the trampling of soil beneath. Towering sandstone spires of water and fire, of harmony in elements. A city like the body, brass lines coursing with the warm water of life like that of a body. Magic was not the hunted by the hunter. It was not the outlier, but the norm. And there stood the feline with their defiance of this art most unholy to Baskarr, to call upon her people to purge the jungles with fire and stone. Great brass vessels of fire and bellowing heat, singing away the plague that was magic. But magic was the norm. And fire can only burn in the absence of the cold. And the cold did came. And with the cold an Empire was lost. A time was lost. A future was lost. The sand stone spires reduced to rubble, the brass rotting away at the seams, and the fires growing dim with the water seeping away in the sand like the memories of those who once bore these truths. Magic persevered. And Baskarr became all but forgotten.

While IC'ly there's no way to know of the Oracle was telling the truth or not, I write this theory with the OOC notion that Marty was telling the truth. And right off the bat this tells us a great many things.

  • The technology of the Varran Empire was far beyond just basic electricity.
  • Its confirmed that Baskarr was in fact a deity of that time. Many scholars thought maybe Baskarr was just a powerful leader figure. This is now confirmed to be wrong.
  • Magic was in wide abundance before the fall of the Varran Empire.

Now here's where things get tricky, its easy to assume a lot of things, until you take the time to read things word for word and take it apart piece by piece. Lets divide this up. I'll talk about what I can deduce of old Varran culture first.

The biggest chunk of info we get on the culture is based upon the technology they had. This revolves greatly around fire and water and sandstone spires. One thing that caught my attention was the quote "brass lines coursing through the warm water of life like that of a body." The body is what spreads life to the entire system, so im led to believe this means brass was used to deliver electricity across the city as well, but in a very specific means. The mention of water in this sentence as well as being mentioned many other times leads me to believe that buried beneath the sands of Varran ruins, you would likely find water channels, and at the bottom, more brass wires.
The idea is that the sandstone spires were in fact lightening rods. And as stated, water was running through these spires, then if electricity struck, and it was connected to the water, and the water is connected to the channels, then if brass were placed at the bottom, then when the water conducted electricity, then they had an external way to get power. I also believe they had a double use for the water, not just as a conductor, but also as a producer. if they had a constant flow of water through maybe a water wheel, then they could produce electricity that way as well.

Now that i've told you my speculations on their technology, this leads into the "conflict" mentioned. It speaks of great brass claws tearing into trees. This is likely what caused the whole conflict with the Nelfin in the first place. Their technology and expanding empire likely required a lot of resources. And upon destroying their lands, the Nelfin and Varran races came into conflict. Its likely that in taking resources, the Varran also took the Nelfin of the land they destroyed and enslaved them in the process. At this point, its a widespread belief that the Varran empire fell because of a war between the Nelfin and Varran empires. This is false. First off, it says explicitly that they were in conflict, but not at war. The Nelfins were not the cause of the destruction of the empire. Well. Then what was you ask?

This is where i'd like to stress a major point.
According to the quotes "Magic was the norm" and "magic was not the hunted, but the hunter" I can deduce that magic was running rampant at this time.
Not only that, but that would make Varrans a minority. They were likely by no means a small race, however in comparison so magic users, aka Nelfin, they were likely far smaller an empire. With that i'll move onto yet another point.
We know that The Varran Empire rose after the first void invasion and likely took inspiration from the Seraph technology that remained. We also know that the Varrans stood heavily against magic as heretical and did take measures to try and wipe it out with said technology. However its here that the message says that fire can only thrive in the absence of the cold. And the cold did come. I take this in both a literal and metaphorical sense. Why?

Put together what we've talked about so far.

  • Magic is the norm. Magic is in abundance.
  • The Varrans are causing conflict with magic users.
  • This is a conflict between the south and the north.

Its possible a war was about to begin, however something far worse stopped it. The war didn't wipe out the Varran Empire, The second void invasion did. Just like how the first one took out even the Seraph.

We know for a fact there is still a slight tear in the north where the Drowdar stay so they can kill anything that slips out and keep the rest of the world from peril. A tear in the north.
We already know that Varrans lived in more southern regions, so that means the magic users were in the northern region. War was about to break out, and possibly a giant battle occurred when the Varrans tried to wipe out magic. When this battle took place, the vast amount of magic involved is what finally triggered the second void invasion.
The cold came, and the cold wiped out the Varran Empire.
Its likely the Varrans faced near extinction from this. The nelfin likely suffered less if just for the fact they were in far greater numbers. What Varrans survived were likely taken into captivity and made into slaves by the Nelfin population that remained. Unlikely they could fight back with the empire lost and their numbers so thin. Thus started their enslavement.
However if this is the case, then why did the Nelfin go out of their way to erase all the history?

I take a quote from the wiki.

  • A lot of information in Ailor and Elven libraries is often intentionally tampered with by Elves. Even in modern days, many Elves have been arrested for tampering with historical records to make Varrans appear more stupid or less desirable within the Regalian Empire, to their political ends.

Compare this information with the new info above and the answer becomes clear. Despite their magic and larger numbers, the Nelfin were losing the battle.
Varran technology, which we now know was far beyond just basic electricity, was too advanced to combat with magic, and the Nelfin were failing. Had the invasion not come, the Varrans likely would have wiped out the elves. Not only is this a devastating idea to the Nelfin race as a whole, but to their pride as well. The only way to to cover up their failure is to make Varran look as dumb as possible to make it unbelievable that they ever had the technology to beat them.
And since the surviving Varran were struggling just to maintain their race from extinction, there was no one to stop the Nelfin from destroying everything. After doing so, they boldly took up the lie that they defeated the empire, when in truth, they were just survivors. And with no history to prove otherwise, the story was believed and has been to this day.

BUT HEY!
Thats just a theory!
A LORE THEORY!
Thanks for reading!

Also before I finish this up, the only reason I found the motivation and the creativity to figure this all out was because my awesome friend @Rassidic was willing to debate all this with me and I want to send out a huge thanks. Never would have figured this all out with their help. Feel free to leave a comment or a theory of your own!! I love to hear your thoughts!

Okay. Dude. I can't really argue with this. I mean, personally, I'm not very invested in Varran lore, as I don't play one myself, but this theory is absolutely beyond what I would have thought of. In fact, this plays a few mind tricks and makes me ask a few questions about the realm known as Aloria as a whole. What if Varran has created electricity before? What if there were still logs out there somewhere hinting at the existence of electricity? Even if this never comes up ic as a whole, I'd love to see a lore progression hinting at something so called "electricity," or the form of power mentioned here, being found in an ancient Varran tome. It'd rise a lot of unanswerable questions, and could even make room for people with historians for characters to do research, make their own theories! Even if it never happens, it's really fun to dabble with all the possibilities in your mind. Makes for a fun pastime!
But yeah- I love this theory, it seems pretty polished and believable. But of course, I'm no lore nut, so I wouldn't know what would be wrong! So, I'd recommend asking @MonMarty for his thoughts on it- Better to ask, and find out if there's any flaws in the theory so you can keep up this work! This was a wonderful read!

In fact! I recommend making a whole new post for this! Unless, of course, it continues here smoothly- But nonetheless, I still love it!

I'd recommend renaming the thread to Varran Lore Theory by the way. Besides that, yus, cat people discovered electricity so they could invent laser pointers for their own sadistic delight.

I had a thread at one point specifically discussing Varran(maybe Tigran at the time?) technology. I don't think much came of it, however.

I'd be very interested to see a character propose this theory ICly. They could study historical texts, and visit Varran ruins, then write an essay on their theory.
What better way to demoralize the filthy Elves than to tell them that cats are better than them?

This would be difficult with the absence of a player quest system. Also, the person doing this would probably themselves be Varran, so it would probably be difficult to find any sort of foothold with the scholars and they wouldn't have any credibility due to their race.

Needless to say, one could do it if they wanted to.
