One thing I like about vanilla Minecraft is being able to explore new areas of the world and finding villages or other structures to see what loot they have. To add more interest in the survival worlds, my suggestion is to have chests randomly spawn every so often with random loot, with the list of available loot being similar to vanilla, plus lore items. Each world can have a few chests spawned at a time.

  • Time-wise, they would spawn once every 17 days or some other uneven number to make it less predictable
  • Location-wise, it'd be the opposite and more predictable to prevent a wild goose chase. We can take advantage of MassiveRestore and only have them spawn on chunks that will reset in 3-5 days.
To bring attention to them, announcements can be made in chat whenever one appears. Perhaps each world would function independently, or perhaps they only appear on one world at a time, and the announcement will tell players which one. Something like, "Treasures have been spotted in the world of Ithania!"

These chests can be marked with a platform of wool or something to make it clear that they are loot chests, or making the chest block temporarily glow by setting its brightness up. They could be made to spawn at least a few chunks away from any claimed land, as well as above Y64 and open to sunlight so they don't spawn in a hidden cave or something. To make things more interesting, the chests could have loot depending on their world or biome. Forest/jungle worlds would have food, potions, plants, and shovels or hoes. Cold, mountainous biomes would have pickaxes and shovels, as well as ores and metals.

A further suggestion would be to make this a donation feature where players can pay to have loot chests randomly spawned in every world, or in a world of their own choosing.. This could be a replacement for some of the more controversial Gift4All items, or at the least nerf them to gold armor/weapons/tools or something.

I actually like this a lot because it would encourage survival world exploration and adventure. As long as the rewards are something unique like maybe a set of miscellanous lore items made just for this purpose. This way it could add something new to the economy without damaging any existing item's value.

I support this idea.

On the last server I played on, there was this plugin that generated tiny little ruins over the map, filled with gear with random enchants. Some good, some bad. Granted these enchants were OP (like sharp 9 and stuff), but the treasure hunting part is what kept people on the server. Usually once people got bored building their town, they would either raid or treasure hunt. Raiding ended up becoming unplayable due to the amount of rules on them, so treasure hunting became the only thing available.

So why do I bring this up? Because if the loot in the treasure chests is valuable, people will hunt for it. Throw in a stack of diamond blocks and a lot of people won't care. Throw in a purple armor piece and you have a hunt for rare lore. I know that I would be hunting the survival maps looking for the treasure if this was a thing, because the loot inside would be worth it.

But, I also think this could have even more potential. Perhaps actually create dungeons where the treasure is at the end. The only thing stopping you from getting there are a bunch of high tiered MassiveMobs. Fight all of them, and you finally get the item. This would encourage players to group up for victory.

But in the end, the idea only needs a treasure chest with an item worth hunting for in it. I'd even say spread chests around the world, with different tiers of lore in each one. You might find a crap chest most of the time, but as soon as you find the pink lore, you'll feel amazing.

Speaking of which, are MassiveMob bosses still a thing? I feel like I haven't heard of any in a while (except maybe a vague mention of killer bunnies).

I've always been an advocate for adding a couple dungeons to the world that will regen their blocks and loot every so often, with custom spawning MassiveMobs and maybe even a boss. But I've heard that might be a bit complex...

Still, this would be a nice in-between. They could make the chests even spawn with mini-structures around them fairly easily. So say, a broken down cart, or an old farmhouse. And MassiveRestore would wipe them away after a while if they had been looted or not, so there wouldnt be an issue of the structures cluttering things up.

I love this idea but it would be pointless if they filled chests with things like strength 2 pots or gold ingots. So please massive if your going to do this, fill it with stuff people want!

I know there are loot chest plugins that give a random amount of money, which is configurable, when a chest is opened for the first time. That could be a nice bonus as well just to add to the loot possibilities, getting like 10-30 regals sometimes randomly. Like a 1/10 change of getting regals or something

Even just dungeons in general would be nice. Like every massiverestore when one dungeon dies, the next restore in a different area returns it, in a new place.

As @Varisus said, I'd like to see EXCLUSIVE TREASURE CHEST LORE ITEMS within them. Maybe the lore is randomized? Maybe there is a chance to get that EXTREMELY RARE TREASURE CHEST EXCLUSIVE LORE ITEM? I mean, you could have yellow lore, you could have anything in there. I mean, I'd like to see high priced lore items. If so, it would encourage me to take breaks from roleplaying to just hunt for treasure! Perhaps for more valuable chests, there are boss mobs to fight, making treasure hunting not a one man thing, and making into a group adventure! I can see in factions adventurer groups that start 'parties' and then gear up to search for loot!
I like this all the way, and will support this 100% of the way.

Yaknow when I think about it, this doesn't really need a lot of tech to happen. All it takes is Game staff or someone to spawn a couple of items, find a random spot in the wilderness to put a chest, and make announcements to the server.

I have actually been working on something like this for a while(two or three months) after being inspired by Alorian Expeditions as a way to make people get out into survival. Stay tuned in announcements.

I definitely like this idea! I have always wanted something in the survival worlds that a group of faction members could do together. This definitely fits the bill :D

I have brought this idea up several times, and have often been met with negativity. Really should have made a separate thread I guess... love seeing this do well! I really think massiverestore would make this easy... from what I can tell though you cannot edit the files that determine what massiverestore restores stuff into. This should be fixed as you can probably do a ton of cool stuff if staff could edit the files, along with getting rid of the annoying water glitches in fenderfell that are literally everywhere!

On another note vanilla minecraft has structure blocks that allow you to have chests generate random, configurable loot upon opening along with generating custom, one-time spawning mobs.

My boy Vibri started a hades before he left the server causing me go coo co trying to figure out his book and the staff making a treasure hunt quest

what a legend <33
