I don't know if this applies to anyone else or if it's just me, but i get bored quite easily in a faction, and I've been living in the wilderness lately instead. I was wondering if there was anyone else who lived in the wilderness who might want to start a settlement somewhere? It would be ideal for people who just want to do the whole hermit/shepherd/hunter/whatever lifestyle, but would enjoy the protection that being in a group would offer them? Is this a good idea or just crazy talk? Thanks.

I like it. Factions are overwhelming but then the people come and tormnt/ raid you. Support!

Great XD I thought no one would get it, if a couple more people are interested we should try and set something up

that's the risk, but if its just a small settlement far out in the wilderness, very few people would come across it, much less know where it is or want to destroy it

Can I be part of a faction and still join?

that's the beauty of it, there's nothing to join, just a small settlement of individuals in the wilderness

Why not just make a faction for this? You could still have your settlement but it would allow you to keep buildings intact from raiders and griefers. I know that what I am saying is against the title but to me, it makes more sense to be able to keep your houses safe.

Idea:
Our faction found a beautiful abandoned city and put a ton of LWC over the area, we go there to RP often, we even bring a few allies here and there...
But, when the new world comes out i wish to dedicate my spare time to make another RP town in my build style. We can have wilderness users as citizens!.. it would require a locked portal and obsidian bunkers, but i think its a cool idea... and if we never bring our stuff out i'm sure there would be no reason for raiders to kill us... that and we would need to RP ALOT...
(every member who wants a permanent house should bring at least a stack of obsidian and 20R for LWC. required locks would be your home bed and a iron door. if you leave, we ask that you take your items with you respectively)
this is by far a long shot, but i think its a good idea if executed by trustworthy people...

You could always join a faction... I'm sure they'd protect your house if you asked

I tend to find abandoned towns and such and settle in, turning them into ruins and restarting their farms. Not much to lose 'cause I didn't personally build the place and chances are it's already been griefed in some way. Plus I'm only there to farm so there's not much valuable material possessions either.

I like the idea. If you have a few locked chests in the area people can be banned for griefing it due to use, and it cannot be claimed for the same reason. It wouldn't be secure from raiders (who could just break down doors/walls to get at you) but if you set it up so everyone knows the scatter they won't be able to do any damage without getting banned.

Or you could just make the walls of an save place 3 thick.. Seeing they may only break 2 blocks to enter >_>
With 2 thick walls they will enderpearl in \o/

They can still break in via windows or doors... and I rather think an admin wouldn't ban someone for breaking a 1X2 tall hole into a house, regardless of wall thickness. Plus, they can always put it back when they're done lol

But in the raid intself, they would be protected D:

I know it would be a long shot, but I'd be hoping that the fact it would be far in the wilderness and quite small would be enough protection from griefers (and of course locked chests and obsidian bunkers and all that sort of stuff). However it does rely on a lot of trust. Basically the way I see it:
  • Pros

  1. Get to build your own house however you want
  2. Do whatever job you want
  3. Extra protection because you're in a group
  4. Not at war with a faction because you're not in one

  • Cons

  1. Less protection than a faction
  2. No "perks" (free armour, weapons etc)
  3. More resources are available to you in a faction

However this is aimed at people who play wilderness, so I'm guessing you wouldn't be interested in a faction anyway. Also that's just my experience of being in factions, maybe you guys have had different ones?

We like our factions, its just that sometimes we miss living in the wilderness like the cool kids :P in the wild, there is not particular build style. Your home can be whatever you want, and when your done you can just pack up and leave... Its like what my family does in the summers. We live in a town but sometimes miss the outdoors... so we spend a few weeks in tents and cabins, and we eventually come back... basically we want to go minecraft camping :P

Yeah I guess it could be fun to do this. If you do, make sure it's with only trusted people. It would be nice to have a faction base for your storage though.

I always wish I could just let go... Become a noob with no power level and die in every raid.. But at the same time I dont want to lose my 17000 power level. BUT if @LadyToxicScythe or @Errrrric Need a buddy or ever go on an adventure, I would be happy to join!

Why not just found a faction with free access to members? or ask around for an easy going faction that doesn't care what it's members do? Sure you can say you don't want war with other factions, but regardless of whether or not you're in a faction people will come after you if they see you, and the more people you have the higher chance someone will see you on a dynmap and hunt you and without claimed land they can break through blocks to get to you. Someone could make a wild faction with small plots claimed all over for random people who wanted safety but freedom. I don't know I prefer safe factions with no way for outsiders to get in like most dwarven settlements and pvp Factions (ironically enough) they are harder to make but safe to live in peace no matter who sets their eyes on them.

This is a fun idea! :) I used to explore Daendroc by myself to explore the abandoned areas seen on dynmap. I found many ruins and old chests full of diamonds, armor, etc. Like really good loot! Then when i traversed the dense jungles of Daendroc I would stumble upon random settlements and creations hidden under the treetops. Dynmap did not reveal these hidden treasures since the treetops cover everything.

It might be time to get my explorer shoes on because I miss having this much fun.

I don't know about anyone else, but I'd definitely have a really thick obsidian bunker with all my stuff just in case, and like @Ha5h says, its really good if you're short on regals.
