The family was large and loving, sharing a home with many extended relatives. As a result, he grew up so close with his cousins that they were more akin to siblings. From a young age, the chubby little boy followed his older sister, Rhea, around the house, copying whatever she did. This sparked his interest in more feminine activities: trying on their mother’s clothes and shoes, applying makeup, and dancing. Rhea was delighted at the prospect of a little brother who would play with her, but his father and uncles weren’t so pleased. They said it was unbefitting for a young man to participate in such activities. So, when he was ten years old, he was sent away on a sailing trip to learn the family trade. The trip took them around the coasts of the nearby provinces, making stops to deliver goods from their home and barter for others. Thyo learned quickly how to rig the sails, scurrying up the ropes faster than any of the grown men were able (surprisingly agile for such a plump child). He found a place among the other sailors and enjoyed his time on the ship, but still missed his sister and the comforts of home. His favorite parts of the journey were the stops they made, where he was able to befriend village children. At first, he was teased maliciously for his flamboyant nature, but, determined to win their favor, he learned to act more “manly”. He challenged the other boys to fights, using his boisterous confidence to charm older girls. This was a bittersweet period of his life: on the one hand, he enjoyed the sense of adventure as he sailed and met new people. On the other, however, it was difficult for him to suppress him feminine tendencies. After a year at sea, the party returned home to their small fishing community, and Thyolaeus was overjoyed to see his sisters once more. The trip had taught him discipline and the value of hard work, in line with the family’s values. Over the course of his teenage years, he continued to pursue his interest in dance, devoting much of his time to practicing and honing his skill to the point of mastery. He shed his childish chub and grew quite muscular, attracting attention from the local girls, much to his delight. He became quite the flirt. Life in his hometown was easy but incredibly dull. Being so far away from the big cities, Thyo found himself longing for change. Nonetheless, he was happy enough at home, as the Mikaladis lifestyle was one of pleasure and comfort, surrounded by plentiful food and wine. Shortly before he turned twenty-three, his cousin Athila boldly declared a move to Regalia in pursuit of greater fortune. He jumped at the opportunity, urging his sisters to come along with him. With his position as head of house (automatically granted to him, the oldest male heir), he endorsed it under the idea of pursuing greater fortune for the family name. The choice created a schism between the children -- now adults -- and their parents, who felt they were being abandoned. Feeling guilty about this, Thyo was torn, but felt the allure of Regalia too strongly to stay at home. Consequently, the journey to the faraway archipelago wasn’t as pleasant as he’d expected; he was plagued with doubt over whether it was the right decision. Once the group of Etosian cousins arrived, led mainly by Athila, they began to lay down roots in the city. Always an optimist, Thyo convinced himself he had made the right choice, and turned his eyes toward the future. He enjoys himself in the moment, preferring to let life take him where it will than to focus on a singular path.
