I've been saying this a lot. So I decided to make a list which I can just link to, as well as just to be generally informative.

Client side involvement: This means that players MUST use SpoutCraft, or a mod to use a server feature, to even play on the server. MassiveCraft will NEVER need client side involvement, so if you have suggested something on the following list, it's probably not going to happen.

Things that would need client side involvement:
-New blocks
-New items
-New mobs (Moar creatures, etc.)
-New enchantments
-New sounds
-New enchantments
-New item states (Off torches, etc.)
-Forced textures

That's all I can think of right now, if this is in the wrong place please move it to wherever appropriate.

My oppinion about it;
working client-side with the normal minecraft-launcher is horrible, every player would have to download and install this mod (which is quite hard for new players) and we would have to cod this mod first. I don't know if cay can code mods ( he can code plugins, but thats a different hing) and it would take it's time to get it all balanced and workng with bukkit aswell ( because bukkit is not ment for using "mods", it's for using plug-ins)
secondly Spoutcraft;
yes, it is easyer to code plugins for spout that adds new items and blocks or what you want. But I talked to cay several times about it and he never showed interest be ause we would force th player even more to use spoutcraft than we do it today.
Anyways I'm pro spout, and also think I would be able to implent new items and blocks myself! But if there is no interest from playerside there never will be one from cay's side.

And thats all what I can say about it.[DOUBLEPOST=1345535354][/DOUBLEPOST]Plus moved to general ( it will be a discussion worth I guess)

It would be nice to hear, why you appreciate to have something like this implement?

I mean, I see no usage or benefit in it (until now). The only one would be, that the server has less load (if the talkings are correct). Please enlight us =D

Read the actual thread, and if you still don't understand ask someone else who has posted here, because they obviously have a much greater grasp of it than you.

If you were actually paying attention you will see that I was defining client side involvement and why we don't want it on the server.

Thanks for the nice words, hopefully you will continue like that, this will really raise the niveau in discussions.
That's nice for the pppl who have posted here .. erm .. you have started the thread, so why don't you explain it to me?

Btw. I can't see any explanation in your first post, why massivecraft needs it?

So .. you are talking about implementing new things, which will only work with Spoutcraft (client-side) - can I/we have examples or should I ask the others, too?

I'M NOT! OHMERGAWD. You are a...... Gah! Just...

I am not talking about implementing ANYTHING.

This is a list of things that Massivecraft WON'T implement because it DOESN'T use client side involvement.

I'm new, and I'd really like to know what I have to install client-side because your server sounds terrific and I'd love to give it a try. I haven't seen anything other than SpoutCraft and the server-wide texture pack that I'll need to install. Is there anything else I would need?

Ozgho, you don't need anything. Spout and texturepack enhance the experience though. I'm amazed how many people don't realise that this thread is for reference purposes only. XD

I like spout, but I am not for making this server more dependent on it than it already is. If you build a game architecture completely around a 3rd party client like that, then you are asking for trouble (as we saw with the last update). Suddenly if the 3rd party doesn't update fast enough, gives up, sells out to K-mart, etc then you and your entire game architecture are fubar.

Also, I can hear vamp shrieks in vanilla. :/

Guys if we put client-based improvement then we could eliminate hackers, because if some sort of mod or addon needs ONLY spoutcraft then all the hackers cannot switch their hacked client to for example spoutcraft because then that would rewrite the whole client and if we used client-based mods then i think that we wuold completely exterminate the hackers in the game

illo, geez man... you're such a schmuck on here sometimes.

Stop saying that, he already explained it twice and then a third time, but I will help if I can.
He has seen people who have suggested things that require client-side downloads, and often times people answer with "that requires client-side mods/modding/etc etc. So he has made this list so people will know what is NOT possible for the server. Good grief.

Btw Illo, you listed "new enchantments" twice.

The thread is from september, just let it die! Locking.
