Unburdened of the whimsical red seal, a letter would spill out reading thusly: Dearest Houses of Nobility & Debutantes of the Season, It is with pleasure that I, THE MISTRESS OF WHISTDOWN, alongside that effective Mistress of Celebrations the Duchess Tuija of the House Viduggla, proudly present the christening event of the social season: The Debutante Ball! The female primary debutantes of the nobility will be presented to His Imperial Holiness, the Emperor, afterwards enjoying an evening's ball, basking in this glorious day of debut. Indeed, take this as not merely an invitation to a ball hosted by the Imperial Court, but as an enticing opportunity to debut your worthiness for favor in this great event of the social season! Find enclosed a missive on notes of itinerary, etiquette, and expectations. Oh! And do not forget to wear WHITE. Regards, This & That Mistress of WHISTLEDOWN Whistledown's Key to the Debutante BallThe Imperial Debut will be the opening ceremony to the Debutante Ball. Primary Debutantes will be accompanied by their sponsor, if they have one, at the entrance of the Imperial Throne Room. The rest of the nobility, bachelors, and invited guests will be collected at the side walls nearer to the Imperial Throne, where the Emperor will be seated awaiting the debuts. Primary Debutantes will be presented by a Court Herald with their sponsor. The Primary Debutante and her sponsor will then approach the Emperor before performing the necessary etiquettes in greeting the Emperor. The Primary Debutante will then away any indication of favor or scorn before dismissal, and then the next Primary Debutante and her sponsor will be presented. Families with multiple Primary Debutantes will be presented as one group. The collected nobility observing the debuts will practice measured and discreet decorum, pending the performance of the Primary Debutantes. The Debutante Ball will host two distinct events: the Sponsor's Dance and the Debutante Rating. After the Imperial Debut, the nobility will convene to a ballroom to celebrate the debut of the peerage's finest ladies. Enjoying some moments of chatter and food, the ball's dances will open with the Sponsor's Dance, where Primary Debutantes will engage in a song's dance with their sponsor. In place of a sponsor, the head of the family or any other appropriate family member may take the place of the sponsor. In the event the Primary Debutante has no sponsor nor appropriate family, she will sit out the Sponsor's Dance. Following the Sponsor's Dance, the dancefloor will be open to all debutantes and bachelors to demonstrate their favors and courtships in dance. During these dances, and all dances throughout the ball, it is imperative to the Mistress of Whistledown that the debutantes and bachelors of the nobility be COMPELLED to the dancefloor. Thus, each Primary Debutante will be charged with three Whistledown Dance Favors prior to entering the ballroom. Primary Bachelors will be able to earn favor with the Imperial Court depending on the amount of tokens they earn--that is, how many dances they achieve with another Primary Debutante. Once a Primary Debutante spends her Whistledown Dance Favors, she is still allowed any amount of dances she desires. The Debutante Ball shall end with the Debutante Rating, the demonstrative rating of the Primary Debutantes based on their performanced at the ball and since the start of the season. Bachelors will also be invited to have their Whistledown Dance Favors tallied, for the pleasure of the Mistress of Whistledown. Expected Etiquette by the WHOLESOME WHISTLEDOWN: All Debutantes and Bachelors MUST wear white. Singles are afforded accents or accessories expressive of culture or family herladry or colors. To not wear white is to not be seen as a Debutante or Bachelor, thus not being recognized by Whistledown. Debutantes are not meant to be directly asked to dance. Instead, Bachelors must inquire the Debutante's sponsor for her hand in dance, with the sponsor able to approve or reject the proposal. In the event the Debutante has no sponsor, their eldest kin or family head takes their place. In the event neither such scenarios suit the Debutante, she is compelled to dance when directly asked, per Noble Etiquette. Debutantes are expected to keep to the company of their family or sponsor, otherwise they are allowed the company of other fellow debutantes. Debutantes and Bachelors are not to be left anywhere on the event grounds unattended or without a sponsor.
