The night was grim, and coated the deandroc jungle in a thick blanket of void. A split platoon of Ailor cut its way through the jungle, battered and confused to all hell. There was no Platoon Leader, neither a second in command as they were both now M.I.A. The group were in the midst of enemy lines and didn't even know it.
"How you… Holding up Grimhild?" Spoke a blonde, red-caped soldier, a Bloodcast Knight. Aldrick Reinard was his name.
"I… I'm just fine... And you?" The blue-eyed, scruffy brown-haired woman replied. The women's armor had been dented from taking a blow from a blunt weapon in the previous costing Skirmish.
"I'm... Just fine." He'd return the comment as he trudged forward.
The two walked side by side, 'leading' the group through the jungle, stopping at a small creek. The moonlight would reflect off the pool of water, the small waterfall would dance, tormenting the soldiers… How they haven't showered in weeks…
"Let's stop here… Drink from the water, and maybe clean out selves." Aldrick spoke out to the group. Not a single man objected to the idea, placing their weapons aside and wiggling out from their Armour. A war was raging around them and the group had completely... forgotten… At Least just for the moment. The group each cleaned themselves in the creek before heading for a smothered fire placed that had been created by three other soldiers. The group would converse as they ate and relaxed for the first time in weeks. Of course they'd maintain a five-man watch around the clock, exchanging every few hours, but for the most part, everything was rather… quiet…
The silence lasted a mere twenty minutes before a blood-curdling scream would escape one of the watch posts. Just as the platoon stood from their location, two bundles of four had two glass containers drop between them from the trees, an explosion escaping the small containers as they shattered spewing out blue flames, setting the eight soldiers and makeshift tents alight. Nothing hit harder than the arrows… Suddenly out from the darkness show a small wave of steel tipped arrows, killing some and wounding the seven exposed soldiers in the creek, blood spilling from their wounds, tainting the waters in their blood.
The sudden attack left the remaining soldiers no time to waste, each grabbing their weapons and shields and banding into a circle of the remaining 6 including both Aldrick and Grimhild. Blue flames had started to engulf the Jungle, leaving the group to be obscured on their front by both smoke and shadow, alas a war cry would escape the bushes as a group of ax armed Avanthar charged out from the shadows, leading for the fight to begin. The Six Ailor would be faced against Eight, bloodthirsty barbarians. The battle elves were a rather even match for the well-trained soldiers, but alas neither side came out victorious, instead through the ashes of the violent bloodbath came a result of two survivors on each front.
As Aldrick had tore his sword out from the back of one of the unsuspecting Avanthar, his hip armored hip was met by a ferocious throwing ax, piercing through the already damaged steel, slicing into his skin, releasing a pained howl. As the second axe was thrown to the stumbling man, his saviour had stepped in, throwing left arm through the air, leading for the axe head to be met with her heater shield, she'd follow up with another step forward, sending her shortsword out for a fatal thrust, alas it avoided by the swift Avanthar, sending his axe for the woman's head. Had she hesitated even for a millisecond, her face would have been caved in by the blade of the axe, but she had brought her heater shield up in her defence, catching the blade off with the edge of her heater shield, throwing her arm aside, sending the Avanthar into a stumble, pulling her arm back then thrust yet again for the Avanthar's chest. She had met success as her blade ripped through the Avanthar's flesh with a pained scream, piercing right through his once beating heart, leading for the large man to go mute, his single ax dropping to the mud with a splash. Startled, the woman quickly turned to her wounded Cousin, ignoring the blazing world that was crumbling around her very very feet, only to view him defending himself best he could against the second raging elf. Held in his left hand would be his left hand would be his kite shield, and missing from the right sword was his arming sword. The blade had been disarmed from the blonde man, now holding his kite shield up to protect himself from the Fury of strikes, coming from the Ularenn warrior. This left Grimhild an open chance, dashing forward with her blade extended, aiming right for the warrior's back, alas the Warrior had heard the incoming woman, darting backward whilst he sent the flat of his ax head for her jaw, knocking the much smaller woman flat on her back… disorientated, and left only with her shield. A chuckle escaped the elf as it then set its focus on the downed woman, trudging forward, raising its axes for a finishing blow, sending them down for the woman, the axe heads cutting through the dented steel, leaving two painful gashes along Grimhilds left arm. The Avanthar raised his arms yet again, only to be knocked over by the shield-wielding Knight. Rolling around in the mud, the Avanthar had lowered its arms, heaving itself to a quick recovery, but alas the back of its throat was met by the tip of Grimhilds blade, as Aldrick had charged after the rolling Avanthar, scooping up the woman's blade and sending it right for the beasts open mouth.
Throughout the next hour, the two patched up Grimhilds wounds, lightly bandaging the outside of the axe head, though it'd remain inside Aldrick until he was to find a real doctor and then searched through the remains of each soldier, finding three survivors from the arrow attacks, and a single survivor from the flames, the six quickly fled from the flaming scene, though the wounded made this a difficult task. Luckily the small group was discovered by a Regalian Recon group, swiftly sending them to the closest fort for evaluation and to be returned home, leaving the corpses to be consumed by the blue flames.
