The General Staff Corps was founded by Gerhard III Typhonus in 240 AC after his ascension as the Duke Of Calemberg. While generally considered a formalization of his privy council, its function was changed to have more executive ability given that as a Duke his interactions with commoners directly blemished his reputation. The initial General Staff corps consisted of four administrative scribes and two of his most loyal military retainers, as well as a few castle servants who were distinguished by their longstanding loyalty rather than their station.
The General Staff Corps was tasked to be the extension of Gerhard's influence within Calemberg to interact and deal with commoners and lower nobles in his name. Given that the majority of the General Staff Corps was not noble they were able to exercise far more direct measures and language. Aside of diplomatic dealings they also performed administrative functions such as paperwork or advice. To this day the Holzburger Generalstabmaessig Korps remains the privy council and bureaucratic administration to keep Calemberg efficiently governed.
The increasing importance of the Crown Isle, mostly by the centralization of the Empire, meant that a presence had to be maintained actively. As more Typhonuses were called to the capital, the need emerged for supporting personnel within the city, whereupon Ulric Typhonus declared the formation of the "Kleinstabmaessig Korps", loosely translating to "Lesser General Staff corps", to assist him with the House Typhonus' daily functioning in the Imperial City.
OOC Information
House Typhonus is recruiting staff members from now on, but contrary to other houses house servants and maids do not fit the house culture. Instead we opt for a more specialized staff system where servants are extensions of the house and to a limited degree exercise the influence of the house.
While recruitment is more strict, Typhonus offers roleplay opportunities for nobility and commoner alike. Being part of the Generalstabmaessig does not mean you are completely loyal to Typhonus (with the Bergwacht as the exception to this) but it rather being a job. There is actual work we're expecting from people who sign up so please keep that in mind if you're applying.
Each position comes with the right to enter and utilize the sprawling Typhonburgh Castle in roleplay (save for private areas), and some positions require a mandatory uniform when representing the House Typhonus in events or when tasked with running meetings as emissaries of the House. Other rights are included as well, and will be explained upon acceptance.
Code of Conduct
- House Typhonus is strict on its recruitment even with its staff and to join the house as a staff member requires the character to be played at least 60% of the time.
- As a member of house Typhonus you represent the family OOCly even as a servant. Avoid toxicity and try to maintain a degree of professionalism and respect whilst dealing with other players.
- Must have the ability to make use of common sense without reminder.
- Must be okay with the idea of acting "on-call" in some circumstances (meaning that you may suddenly be informed of the need of a staff member and are okay with getting on to fulfill your role. Politics can be sudden.)
- It is mandatory that you have and actively use Skype, as that is our primary method of communication.
Positions of the General Staff Corps
Bergwacht | House Guard
In the past, the Bergwacht were the castle guards of the House Typhonus' countless fortresses and keeps across Calemberg, chosen for both capability and loyalty to the house. Nowadays the Bergwacht is more lenient on its recruitment, and its function now also extends to escorting the family to the battlefield and escorting the Patriarch and other Typhonus wherever they may go. They also often are called upon to bear the heraldry of the house and be championed in tournaments by the house.
RP Function: Attending events as bodyguards or champions for Typhonus but also miscellaneous tasks that may require people with grayer morals. IC benefits include an IC salary, the opportunity to listen in on political dialogue, access to otherwise exclusive noble events, the opportunity for promotion, and more. Position requires a uniform during active service.
Verwalter | Steward / Servant
Beyond being tasked with managing the plethora of house documents and letters or the general administration of the house, the stewards of house Typhonus are given the task of drafting diplomatic responses, and if skilled in particular, as ambassadors for the house. Stewards who happen to be strongly suited with law are also often accompany members of house Typhonus to advise on wording and responses. Along with their bureaucratic functions, Verwalters may also act as "standard bearers" in the sense that they may announce the presence of a certain Typhonus in a formal situation or at an event, and may also act as general servants, fetching things that various Typhonus may need, or preforming menial tasks.
RP Function: Writing letters (or responses to letters) in the name of various Typhonus members, accompanying less-political members of the House to assist with diplomacy, acting as an emissary of the House Typhonus as a whole (to either nobles or commoners), accompany Typhonus members to events to announce their presence, and act as general political aides. IC benefits include an IC salary, the opportunity to engage in or listen in on political dialogue, access to otherwise exclusive noble events, and more. Position requires a uniform during active service.
Meisterspitzeln | Spy Master
The position of Meisterspitzeln is a relatively new addition to the ranks of the General Staff Corps, created out of political necessity in recent times. The Meisterspitzeln's primary goal is to collect information (mostly damaging information) on the other aristocratic families of the Realm, and sometimes even prominent commoners, to be utilized for the benefit of the House via blackmail or general intelligence. Collaterally, it is also the duty of the Meisterspitzeln to keep damaging information about the House Typhonus from being spread, through "any means necessary."
RP Function: Collecting gossip material on other nobles and powerful individuals, typically being embarrassing public displays, statements that could be taken out of context, records of who an individual has met with, and so on. Will often require the player to follow other players around at a respectable distance whilst remaining subtle. May also be charged with commanding members of the Bergwacht to "plug leaks." IC benefits include political roleplay, an IC salary, and the vague assurance that the House Typhonus will try to bail you out if necessary, and more. PROSPECTIVE SPY-MASTERS SHOULD SEND THEIR APPLICATION VIA FORUM CONVERSATION.
