The Great Schism

Deep within the halls of Midgal, Eske and the rest of the Ulfmaerr slept soundly within their bunks, on tables, floors, and generally anywhere they fell unconscious from a drunken stupor. That night the winds blew a bitter cold breeze as the moon hung high in the sky, illuminating the land with an eery blue glow. Yet all of a sudden, in a violent eruption of sound came a large explosion from the western walls of the city. Splintered wood and fire rose up into the sky and changed the lands hue from blue to orange in a near instant. Eske and the Ulfmaerrs awoke, hearing the screams and sounds of battle commencing outside they readied their equipment and dawned their armoring. Eske picked up his spear and shield and took with him a box of matches and a bottle of potent alcohol and moved swiftly with his men and the rest of the defenders to the breach in the wall.
Once they had arrived they were met with a scene of great Velheim battle. Warriors fighting in the Gap made in the wall and within the clearing within, axes flying and blood being spilt on the land it was a chaotic sight to behold with the untrained eye. Yet Eske knew what this meant. He sent his family to aid the defense of the gap as he moved to enter and push through the fray to find the enemy raiders leader. Velheimers charged towards him in sporadic moments, a single Velheim axeman attempted to slash down on Eske from the front yet was blocked via his shield and impaled through the ribcage by Eskes spear. Once that mess was finished Eske continued to push through and was faced with two more opponents who went to tackle him to the ground, Eske used his spear as a javelin of sorts and knocked back one of the chargers and spun, using his shield and cracked it's face into the enemy raiders skull knocking him out and back. This onslaught was proceeded by a quick break of the man's knock by slamming the edge of the shield down on the nape of his neck. Eske soon after retrieved his spear and pushed through to the large smoldering opening in the wall. On the other side was a wall of shields all with a familiar coat of arms that he had seen since childhood. His third uncle, Rolf Valdemar was a steadfast and devout follower of the family way. As such the patriarch and a large portion of the family changing their names had caused him such a great ire because of the way felt that the family was throwing away their ancestors memories, he needed to cut it off at the head before it spread to the rest of the family. Eske charged forward towards Rolf, battering raiders to the side and killing as he went. As he neared Rolf the stature of the giant was fully noticeable. The 6'6 240lb Velheimers was heavily clad in padded leathers and chainmail. The man wore a hefty beard upon his face and braided golden locks trailing down his back. Eske yelled out to Rolf demanding an explanation and all Rolf said in response was, "You had so much potential Pretender, now burn with this disgrace of a city."
Rolf began to charge forward towards Eske, the beast looked as if he was part Url with his stature, his large double handed war axe cleaved through friend and for as he neared Eske. However Eske, in his quick thinking took only moments to take the cap off the bottle and place it to his lips taking a large gulp into his mouth and leaving half the bottle in his bottle. As Rolf drew dangerously close Eske rolled to the side, sending a spray of alcohol from the bottle at Rolf, splattering his clothes and him in the mixture. Rolf annoyed by this attempted to swing at Eske only to have his Axe caught on the underside in the wind up by Eskes shield. Another spray of alcohol onto the man's chest before sending a kick to his kneecap. This had no real effect other than as a distraction tactic. Rolf continuing to grow angered by this ripped his Axe back and flung Eske back behind him onto the ground. Eske scrambled to get up, the alcohol still in his mouth, he dodged and parried the swings as best as he could as he fumbled for his matchbox. Once retrieved amidst the struggle it took him only a moment to struck a light and position himself to send a heavy blaze of flames up at Rolfs face and body by spitting the alcohol at him. The scene looked as if his breathe turned to fire at that moment and Velheimers from both sides turned in observation to look as Rolf began to burn, he clawed at his face and beard, his clothes igniting from the various spray of alcohol prior, the man began to burn alive. In his rage he attempted a final swing of his war axe at Eske only to have a spear impale him in the bicep ceasing his movements. The battle had been won at this moment and not only did Eske solidify his claim and right to walk this path, he had acquired the new title, Eske, The Fire Tongued Hound.

A week later a courier came bearing a letter from those who remained as Valdemars. The letter was read aloud to those present within the Ulfmaerr Dining Hall.
"Dear Patriarch Pretender,
You have slain our father and sullied the family name and way, you will be executed upon the burning ashes of your village and made to watch as the dogs devour the bones of those who followed you. This is war."

Eske sat upon the head chair amongst his close friends and family, a great portion of the family in truth was ready for this semi modernization and ready to start with this new path however, those who declared war still were family and proved to be a threat to moral, so Eske had his scribe bring forth a quill and paper and begin working a response, dictated not read of course, "To my relatives who wish to see me fall, I love you still. But should you stand in the way of our goals and the greatness we will accomplish together as a unified people, I will set you ablaze just as Rolf figured out. You have been warned and yet invited as well. Join the family and live. Fight against us and die. Your choice, signed by Eske Ulfmaerr, Patriarch of the Ulfmaerr family and the one who shall halt the All-End from ever arriving."

Once the last part was ended those gathered erupted into a fiery roar of enthusiasm and inspiration! The festivities we're then extended for the next few days as now an even greater celebration coming to be known as the Week of New Roads. Where will Eskes sights be set now? Only time may tell, shall you aid his journey?
