An Origin of Union
The Union of House Valeur and House Artiemus was established as of Summer 306 AC, first with the patriarch of House Valeur; Stephan III granting those of House Artiemus to take on the name of Valeur for further join work between the two allies.
Soon, this union joined under House Tyrannian, and steadily grew, until a stagnation was reached, and a divergence of viewpoints, noticed. Rather then turn this into a typical political mess, the union of Valeur and Artiemus, formed a new, birthed house, finally and forever uniting the two under the new name of House von Griefenfeld.
A Culmination of Diversity
Angle Veer is home to many, from it's native Anglian Veers, to it's welcomed Dragenthal Refugees, and even it's Ithanian brothers and sisters. Of these, such as the Anglian House Artiemus, and Ithanian House Valeur, now united as House von Griefenfeld form the face of the people, and their will. Artiemus holds it's roots deep to it's people and the land, defining Anglian Veer Culture as unique to it's mainland counterpart, as well as it's focus on both Education, and national identity. Through this, the many people of Angle Veer see themselves as just that, a singular identity, the people of Angle Veer.

Hail Angle Veer! Hail Regalia! The Motto upon which House von Griefenfeld carries it's formation and purpose to. The call for a hailing to the nation, the people and what makes them unique; the people hold a sense of nationalistic pride. House von Griefenfeld stands as a vanguard to that very way of life, thinking, and values, gaining over the generations through it's other houses, namely Artiemus, a sense of patriotic respect and pride for the house, and the Isle of Angle Veer. Through their many cultures, they are one on this land, to which they hail their Nation, and hail the Empire.

Prologue
The history of House Artiemus goes back many generations, though much of this older history and it's records were overshadowed by the actions of the last three generations up till the present day.
Origins
The year was 233 AC. After unforeseen tragedy at the hands of many male deaths in military service over the last decade, two suicides by widows, and one death by broken heart, the Artiemus family was, a mere dry oak leaf falling silently in the approaching winter breeze. None of those that passed bore any children and Luken soon found himself the only Artiemus remaining. Being a young Alt-Anglian lad, in his early teens, Luken was raised by what remained of the family's elite Ritterbrüders, or knight brothers, the top of the families armed forces at their disposal which doubled as a personal retinue guard. They raised the boy into a young man, making him essentially a member of the very order made to defend the family, by extent, himself. This sense of brotherhood drew extreme loyalty of the men. The Family lands of Alexanderburg, west of the crown isle served has his home till 242 AC when Luken decided to put himself and the men of the Ritterbrüder to the test, serving wherever needed by the empire. Over the next two years, they grew a sense of strong loyalty for one another, as brothers in arms.
In 243 AC, Luken Aritemus was visiting Regalia, attending a noble assembly when he spotted a lovely young woman across from him. Marthas Reinhardt, an Alt-Regalian nobleman's daughter. Caught in his flirtatious acts, the young man found himself soon removed from the meeting. That evening, Marthas found her way to where he was staying in the city and offered him a chance to properly treat her to a night out, redeeming himself for his foolishness earlier that day. Surprised, the young man accepted her offer and after a few hours out, Luken felt his attitude changing from hormonal attraction, to sincere admiration. Marthas showed interest in the elevation of humanity, true Unionistic values, and a headstrong attitude, to which Luken simply admired, and in the coming months, loved about her. After a few months of courtship, and approval from Marthas' father, the two became engaged, and later, married. This is what is considered the true beginning of the Artiemus Family in the Holy city of Regalia. After marriage and a few kids later, Artiemus seemed more like a family again. After a decade more of servitude to Regalia, Luken retired to become a well respected Officer. Luken turned his focus to other military matters, such as the elite Ritterbrüder who raised him. He had come to realize how valuable the group of men were, serving device acts in battle that ensured victory. With that, Luken seeked ways to perfect their training, as well as taking the advice of his wife, offering all members a advance military and academic training to ensure free thought and spontaneous thinking on the field of battle. Marthas enacted a plan for more education for those living in their lands of Altenburg as well. She believed it was for the general well being of all Humanity to advance and uplift it's people. There was, however, in the coming years, a new ambition. This ambition arouse in 272 AC to the eldest son of the two, Alaric Artiemus, and hence the rise of the Artiemus family began.
Rise of House Artiemus
The late 270's was a time of confused sentiment as Regalia suffered a prolonged period referred to as the Regalian Pessimism. This two decade long period was dominated by a massive decrease in nationalist sentiment among Regalians, as well as the decline of the Unionist faith among the empire's people. With a series of corrupt Chancellors and weak Emperors, the Empire started to move into a steady decline.
At the same time, in 272 AC, Alaric Artiemus, the first born son of the now Count Luken Artiemus. He was a young solider for the Regalian military, having graduated from the Viridan Order and following his father before him as he received training among the Ritterbrüder. With extended knowledge and education from his mothers education initiative and military upbringing from the Ritterbrüder and his father, the young man impressed often for his age, both in mind and action. Over time, and with dedication, he grew as he served, eventually becoming a strategist for the Regalian military over the years. He used his knowledge of statistics and logistics that he gained from mother accompanied by his father's military teachings to his advantage when coordinating military tactics, maneuvers and so forth.
Eventually, Alaric was recognized by one of his CO's and recommended, then eventually accepted into the recommended military academy. There, he showed high levels of determination, always aiming to be the best of himself and more. He'd soon reintroduce himself to the Tyrian Order, which provides supreme level Viridian School skills, and enhancement by alchemical means to make the warrior much stronger and more resilient. Alaric's father started to worry his son was too patriotic, especially for the times, and far too embroiled in military affairs to which Alaric saw his father as giving in to the times of Regalian Perssimism. Once Alaric achieved his training, he'd collect the Ritterbrüder and by extent, offer them training around what he learned.
His younger brother, Hugo Artiemus took on after Alaric and served under his brother as a member of the Ritterbrüder. Their little sister, Roselyn was a shop owner in Regalia, extending the food shipments from Altenburg to the crown isle as a major provider of such to the holy city, added upon the close proximity of Altenburg to the Crown Isle. Roselyn and Hugo worked to increase investments in Artiemus held farms from Crown Isle sources as well as hire agrarian expertise to share and teach the latest Agricultural advancement to farmers in Alexanderburg, reflecting education as a true value to the Artiemus family. Eventually, Alaric revisited the Ritterbrüder and reorganized it to serve as the new Vanguard for Artiemus forces and Regalia alike.
Establishment of the Schocktruppen Program
Alaric had... to put it simply, an obsession, with crafting the most elite men he could into the tip of the spear for Artiemus armies, and hopefully, Regalian forces too. The Ritterbrüder were already loyal, tested, and intelligent, but this wasn't enough for Alaric. He looked into many means of how to enhance them in combat, but eventually settled on one, very 'controversial' choice.
Alaric's proposal for the project detailed radical changes in many different fields. The first and most controversial was the subjects themselves, who were selected by a gene-candidate pool, only Alt-Regalian or Alt-Anglican; and fit into a certain age restriction, five years of age. They also possessed superior physical and mental attributes when compared to other children their age. This narrowed the candidates down to children who would be raised and taught in the art of warfare and military values from a young age. Those distinguishing themselves as leaders among the candidates were then sent to receive special training from Alaric personally on what he learned in the Viridian Order, before sending them off to become Viridian's themselves over the next decade before they returned. These four were also sent to study a various Academies for Strategic training and expected to lead the other Ritterbrüder in combat along side a family member. This convinced Alaric to rename the Ritterbrüder to Schocktruppen.
Using such controversial means of creating a Schocktruppe meant that the decision and program would have to be carried out under the highest levels of secrecy in Alexanderburg.
A center for intelligence gathering was established and a network soon spread across Alexanderburg to ensure that if anything so happen to leak, the leakage was to be 'terminated' effectively. Now with the program in full effect, and the first, yet very small batch of candidates selected, Alaric took time to ease his mind, retiring to the Holy city with his sister and brother. The project was even secret from them, as he did not want to jeopardize his siblings encase things got out.
Growth and Expansion
After visiting the holy city with his brother Alaric, Hugo worried that his brother was not properly running the family. Much of the economic management fell to him and Roselyn. Roselyn recommended to Hugo that perhaps it was time to "introduce" their older brother Alaric to some noble woman, as, he was expected to produce a heir after all. The mischievous pair of younger siblings soon decided on Roselyn's close friend, Maria, a local noblewoman of Alt-Anglican origin. Though, at first, Alaric was not interested in the woman, he did befriend her. Maria too was not so fond of the arranged date, though over time, they grew on one another, and the dominoes fell from there.
Eventually, Alaric and Maria would court and marry, returning to Alexanderburg. There, they had a son by the name of Theodore Artiemus in 275 AC. After which, he took up establishing and funding farms, along with his brother Hugo over the next two years, and a trade route to the city of Regalia was further flooded with food products from Alexanderburg. With the assistance of his sister Roselyn and her husband Lucian who had connections with merchants in Regalia as they lived in the city. Not long after this, Alaric's wife Maria gave birth to a daughter in 276 AC, naming her Lunia Artiemus. Over the next three years from 277 AC till 280 AC, Alaric made a name for the Artiemus family in terms of food production, and military prowess in those crucial years, for the empire rose imperialistically once more with the outbreak of the Chrysant War in 286 AC. Alaric and the Schocktruppen gained a well known reputation among many, even their enemies. They'd be called many things, even Schattenjagers, famous for night time incursions and taking out officers the night before a major advancement by the army. The tactic was later replicated by Theodore during the Elven Resurgance in Spring, 304 AC.
As the war dragged out over many years, and with the Regalian Pessimism still causing a decline, even in times of war, Artiemus was ironically thriving off the war. Exports of food to specified noble armies with plots of land rented and payed monthly by noble houses for their armies, playfully called "food insurance", drastically altered Artiemus income overnight. This combined with their efforts during the war sealed them a notable stance as a known noble house. This carried on till the end of the war in autumn of 291 AC. Unfortunately, every rise has a equal crash, and though the Empire started to rebound, Artiemus started to decline.
Turmoil and Rebirth
Things carried on like this over the next 12 years. Then, the Qadir Invaded the holy city and assaulted much of the archipelago. The Schocktruppen and Alaric fought in numerous battles, though the larger and overwhelming Qadir armies soon took it's toll. Set back, after set back, loss after loss. Schocktruppen started to die in battle, simply overwhelmed, though not without first inflicting a higher ratio of enemy casualties before their own. Enough to burn them again into the minds of the enemy, who called them shadow dancers, or eclipse soldiers, in reference to being the opposite of their will, by extent their sun gods will. Even Alaric was badly injured in battle and due to his injury, required a cane occasionally, no longer able to effectively fight. In the ranks of the Schocktruppe was Alaric's son, Theodore, who at 26, was left to lead what had remained of the Artiemus forces. However, like his father before him, he impressed, though suffered defeats more then victories due to the shear ratio of being outnumbered. Once the war ended Alaric formally bestowed control of House Artiemus to his son, Theodore Artiemus in 302 AC. Alaric took to assisting his son in taking on such responsibility while secretly watching the Schocktruppen candidates hit their late twenties. Alaric's focused remained on recruitment and training of the the force, as well as training Theodore who himself was a viridian. Meeting new people in the merchants guild, Theodore soon befriend many merchants and nobles When Luken passed in 303 AC, Theodore mourned parting from his grandfather's watchful gaze and noted his father's silent depression of the lost. The family suffered as Alaric grew distant with Theodore, focusing on the Schocktruppen program. Now under Theodore Artiemus as family head, on April 27, 306 AC, Artiemus left the higher class of nobility upon which it fluctuated regularly, becoming a wealthy aristocratic House
As Summer of 306 AC was around the corner, the family entered a new age once more, retaining the family moral tradition of having the oldest of the youngest generation as the family head, under the guidance of the prior patriarch to have both experience in one hand, and progression of the youth in another. Theodore himself remained the family head, with only time to tell where and what is to come.
Extra Facts
- Theodore And Hugo are now aware of the Schocktruppen Program. Alaric still runs it, though training is done mostly by Hugo now, and Theodore leads and commands them in battle as his retinues.
- Schocktruppen are know to be rather tall, fit and intelligent soldiers that simply put other footman to shame. Their loyalty, from a young age, makes them efficient and loyal to the death for the Artiemus family. They're gear is usually of higher quality then then average Artiemus soldier, coasting about as much as three men's worth, and with their selective recruitment, left their numbers to a mere 80. Over the years, and with countless wars in the last two decades, the number fell to 47, with the majority dying in the Qadir war. Current 306 A.C. numbers however, due to the recent Elven war has the number swollen to 600 strong, or three tenths of all Artiemus forces.
- Martias Artiemus is still alive, though her age is very noticeable 81, she manages to still teach classes at the Karelburg Academy.
- Though not often mentioned, Theodore was given similar training to that of the Schocktruppen, growing up with them. When in combat, Theodore surprisingly throws himself to defend his men, who are, in theory, suppose to be his retinues. His loyaltiy to them is that to his own family.
- Roselyn Artiemus is married to the head of House Blackmoor, Lucian Blackmoor. House Blackmoor has long historic ties to military service alongside Artiemus.
Fun Facts
- The family flower is the Altenburg Blue Orchid, a domesticated Variant of the New Ceardian Blue Orchid.
- All current members of the family except for Ingrid Artiemus have black hair and blue eyes. Ingrid has Brown hair due to her blond father, Lucian Blackmoor.
- Lunia loves to read and write but hates to share what she writes. Not even Theodore, her brother gets to read from her journal.
- Lunia is Asexual, feeling no real attraction to anyone.
- Dominic has a fascination with the Regalian navy, and is currently attending the Regalian Naval Academy.
- Amelia is allergic to peanuts.
- Juliana would by today's standards, have ADHD.
- Hugo loves to bake, a lot. Imagine a 6"5' bear of a man in a bakers outfit. This is how he found out his eldest daughter, Amelia, is allergic to peanuts.
- Isabelle, Hugo's wife, is a Academic Scholar that teaches at multiple Regalian Academies. Most notably, Karelburg University.

- Nikolaus is seen as the middle child of the second generation in the family, even though Roselyn shares that spot with him. He is obsessed with Unionist values and Jingoism.

This is a family code that is indoctrinated into all family members from a very early age, and a cornerstone of what makes Artiemus unique in it's own right. The code is also taught to other soldiers and citizens of Karelburg, but is mainly a guideline for family members and a moral code that others may adopt.

- "Zu folgen, nicht gesendet werden." To follow, not be sent. - This is the family code that states, "Artiemus levi's or Ritterbrüders/Schocktruppen do not get ordered to advance alone into combat, unless usurer by the state. They do not go alone or get sent to assault. Rather, they are following the family member they are sworn to protect, as that family member leads them into battle." The loyalty of Artiemus family members to their men, is that of childhood friends, except, soldiers, raised for war. No army is ever moved without a house member leading it or a trusted ally unless it is done by the state. This code still applies to family members that lead other levi's or troops, as it's simply how the Artiemus family members are raised. They don't order you to advance and watch, they run ahead and say, "Follow me!"
- "Ehre, Mut, Selbstlosigkeit, Respect, Engagement" Honour, Courage, Selflessness, Respect, Commitment. - Theres are the five creeds of Artiemus servitude to their people. They don't see it as a given right to lead their land and people, but a duty, a service, a labour of the utmost honour to have. In turn, they show these aspects when leading at home or abroad, or seen on a one to one bases. Their character standout as strikingly unique to their culture. Though it's more so in some members then others, and on rare occasion this is broken, but met swiftly by the family head.
- "Wissen ist Fortschritt." Knowledge is Progress. - Education of massive importance to House Artiemus. From the progressive mind of Marthas Artiemus, to Kathie Artiemus, the Headmaster of Karelburg University. House Artiemus heavily educates it's house members, as well as funds education for it's citizens and soldiers, even paying for a very small handful to get Viridian training, and after, education at Karelburg University to act as the Vanguard of Artiemus Schocktruppen, the elite personal soldiers of the family head. It's believe that education is what makes Ailor's as successful as they are, and hence, to elevate humanity to it's finest, Artiemus values education.
- "Recht auf Titel." Right to Title. - There is a very different code to titles holding and being the family head. Older heads are expected to pass it to their heir when they are of age to usher in progress of the new age, and new ideas. Hence meeting the demands of the generation and era. However, the prior head is still expected to act as the head adviser and guiding hand after which for the remainder of the time, allowing the new head to access their experience, while applying it to a new way of thinking, always moving Artiemus forward.

In 260 AC, a wealthy aristocrat named Victoria Valeur was born on the isle of Valorian, a small pocket island off the coast of Ellador, populated by a small community of Ithanian emigreés who sought their fortune in the north. Out of the reach of Nordskag raiders and with plentiful silver mines, the local community flourished under Victoria's rule. Prosperity brought more workers, as well as their families and wealth to the small holding, quadrupling its population base in a matter of two decades. When Victoria Valeur came of age, her parents disappeared during a raid, one of many which would continue to plague the small community for the coming years due to its growing economic means.
Without a proper means to defend themselves, the population of Valorian was beaten time and time again, losing not only their wealth, but also many lives as time went by. The resilient Valorians however stubbornly held onto their land, and even attempted to raise a militia to strike back at the warlords from Ellador who had been raiding them ceaselessly. Victoria Valeur personally joined their raids into hostile territory to lead the citizens of the downtrodden community. One such fateful raids unfortunately caught them transgressing on the land of one Baron Vincent von der Specht, a warlord that had a made a name for himself in the north.
Ceaseless raids followed, crippling Valorian's means to even protect its most base survival, causing the members of this once flourishing community to consider completely abandoning it. Then, one fateful day in 284 AC, when Baron von der Specht attacked once more, the raiders stopped in their tracks. Baron von der Specht and Victoria Valeur had never actually met, though it was the sight of her on the battlements of Valorian that caused him pause. Some of his warriors would later whisper that he was enchanted by Victoria's beauty to behold. The both of them called for a truce, the Baron with intent, Victoria to save her people. Much to her surprise, the Baron offered the ruler of Victorian a deal, to enter in marriage with him, and to have his army from the fighting force of Valorian to defend it. Victoria, uncertain of this man, chose to accept the deal, only to save her people from further bloodshed.
Over the years, Victoria would grow to love the Baron. He showed her kindness and tenderness that she had not known in the harsh living condition of the north, but the people did not speak easy of the new way Valorian conducted itself. Primarily inhabited by Ithanians, the locals felt Valeur had betrayed their identity and the loved ones they had lost to raiders like Baron von Specht, to the point where they thought Victoria had simply become the Baron's trophy wife. Civil strife soon erupted, unanswered political unrest eventually culminated in a coup against Victoria Valeur's rule in Valorian, and Victoria fled to New Ceardia, accompanied by Baron von der Specht who was still madly in love with her, and whatever people remained loyal to the both of them.
Their stay in New Ceardia was not long lived, they could not find their roots with the locals and wherever they went, warfare seemed to follow the relatively peaceful Valorians. Victoria Valeur eventually decided to gather her wealth and people, leave behind some contacts in Regalia and join up with the colonial effort in Fendarfell, from where she eventually founded a city where she would rule as Baroness Victoria Valeur von der Specht, alongside her husband, who would continue to guard against encroachment from would be raiders. Since moving to Fendarfell, Valorian has also been staking a claim in the turmoil in Hadaria, using their stable foundation in the Ithanian colonies to wrestle power from the other factions in the Crisis of Kings.
After half a year in Hadar, the family was drawn back to the Regalian Empire, and left all their colonies behind to focus on ranking inside the empire's nobility. Their arrival was at first very limited in terms of influence, although carrying the Hadarian crown for a long time during their initial stay. They officially left the crown in March to signal to the Imperial authorities that they were to there to challenge them. It was at this point that Victoria's older brother Stéphan took over the family, as she had become tired of governing for the family and abdicated all the family rights to Stéphan. Stéphan quickly gained a foothold in the Imperial politics and within a few months gained vast areas of land t his own and the family's name.
Culture - Ithanian, Leutz-Vixe
Naturally, because the family business has interacted with Regalia for several generations, the family culture was also affected and adapted. They have contributed to the Regalian Empire by selling lumber since 104 AC. Their faith and religion is also Unionism.
General Appearance
Most of the immediate family members have dark brown hair and smaragd green eyes, whereas cousins traits often fluctuate slightly more, by f. ex. having freckles, slightly lighter or darker hair, paler or darker skin, depending on new the gene pool. Structurally, they'll have quite angular facial features, such as broad jaws and wide cheekbones. The gentlemen are usually between 5"10' to 6"1' feet tall, while the ladies are between 5"4' and 5"6' foot tall. Most of the members are healthily oriented, being physically active and aware of their physical appearance.
Their attire is usually always up to date and on good terms with current fashion, and it's rare they ever dress inappropriately or with an apparent lack of style.
Palast Duchy in Pays Sud, Savignac
After landing back on the shores of the Regalian Empire, the Valeurs were given a piece of land in the province of Savignac. This land was quickly expanded upon as the family gave back at its age old trade of gaining titles rapidly. Within two months their lands and economy had grown sevenfold and their army thirtyfivefold, mustering an army of seventythousand men. When Stéphan Valeur reached the title of Duke, he ordered the construction of a palace in Savignac, being a fan of architecture himself and knowing his situation, he agreed with the architects to include expansion wings to the palace, should the power of the family grow grand enough for that to be needed. The building would be known as Château-Plaine Estate.
