"Pious And Imperial"
"Pious And Imperial"
History-
The creation of the Praefectura pro Doctrina Fidei dates back to the Synod of Calemberg in 187 AC shortly after Diviner Unionism gained traction within Girobalda to maintain communion and unity within the faith by correcting minor deviations within regions before major schisms and divisions appear within the true faith. The Prefecture's sole objective was "Maintain and defend the integrity of the faith by examining errors and false doctrines"
The first grandmaster of the Praefectura was Heron Volckamar who was sanctified posthumously. It was his usual black uniform and his apprenticed who imitated him which gave the organization its nomer.
The general task and authority of the organization has risen and diminished with every Synod and need of it in situations because of their very objective hinging on interpretations of the creeds by the Synod.
By 254 AC the Praefectura was gradually phased out in favour of more militant inquisitions as the Sanchella's proselytizing missions turned more outwards rather than within its own borders rendering the organization moot.
In 305 AC by the mandate of the Seventh Council Of Regalia it had been decided that in accordance to the 12th creed that an organization was needed that was 'More inquisitive than the Inquisitions' to maintain doctrine rather than hunt heretics and to bring control of religious organizations directly under the Synod again.

Purpose -
The Praefectura Pro Doctrina Fidei has several purposes and goals under the all covering mandate of upholding the creeds. First and foremost is gathering information and investigating deviations from Sancella interpretations. Second is to offer sanctuary and aid to any innocents and faithful and safeguard the ecclesiarchy from attack. The latest iteration also has upholding the ninth creed within its scope, which is hunting daemons and the supernatural so no harm befalls the flock.
It should also be noted that the Praefectura within Regalia does not judge individuals or groups on whether they breach doctrine. This is done exclusively by the Synod, but this isn't to say that in history the Praefectura hasn't gone to extensive lengths within investigations.

Structure-
The Prefecture is quite large and is divided in chapters that are situated in various metropolitan cities throughout the empire. Each has its own leader for their own specific duties
The Synod; The overarching executive authority of the Sanchella and thus the Praefecture, deciding on any policies upheld and made.
Prefect; The Prefect is the overarching leader of each chapter and maintains their duty by what means they see fit. (NPC's, Regalia does not have one.) The Prefect is always a Reverend
Prelate; Second in command of each chapter while the grandmaster is absent and become the new grandmaster if the former individual perishes. The Prelate is always a Reverend.
Inquisitor: Full fledged members of the Praefectura who may have their own retinue and connections to independently work towards the greater mandate of the Order. The exact authority they hold within the organization depends on their connections and influence, meaning there is a large degree of difference between a newcomer and a veteran Inquisitor.
Acolyte; Acolytes are new individuals associating with the Order apprenticing under an Inquisitor. Upon completion of a pilgrimage to Basta and the Sacrament of Service, any Unionist may request to be made an acolyte. This request can be accepted by the prefect of the local order.
Ordained Helerian; This rank is granted to retinue members that are recruited to assist and guard the Sanchella. While not necessarily Helerians those who are not are usually looked down upon and delegated lower duties. These individuals are only allowed to bear arms on order or presence of a full fledged Sanchella member. Acolytes are usually recruited from these ranks.
