    ◈══ Personality ══◈
    [IMG]
    Alignment & Personality
True Neutral | While Garrick believes his life is dedicated to a greater purpose, he himself is a very troubled individual. He tries his best to live every day to its fullest, aiding those around him for the sake of mutual fulfilment, to bate off the horrors that may come at night, physical or not. In his line of work, however, there are no real heroes. Only men who must choose to do the right thing.

ESFJ-A | For a Darkwald, Garrick loves social activity and partaking in alms work. In much of a sense where his duty is to eradicate the errant who afflict the land, he must also support the good people who make it all function. In a way, this is his method of positive reinforcement.
    Faith
9/10 | Sancellian Unionism | Garrick wholeheartedly believes in Great Way and the divine voice that Regalian emperors act as vessel to. Interestingly, he has developed his own interpretations on the meaning of the Spirit through his cryptic visions and dreams at night, though how he shares them are often just as befuddled. He believes that every good unionist offers his or her experiences and wisdom to the Spirit upon their deathbed, which further strengthens divine reach and influence to the emperors of ere, rather than the common people merely acting as an observer until the time when Paradise is unveiled.

    On Happiness and Contentedness
Garrick may be a Darkwald, but he is ultimately still a relatively happy and faithful man. When there is cause to be happy, he will be happy. If there is no cause to be happy, he might try to go out of his way to make it, depending on his mood.

    On Fear
Darkwalders know fear. In a way, you can say that fear drives them. When Garrick is afraid, his hands begin to shake, and his eyes dart around with uncertainty and discomfort, but depending on how pressing the issue is, he is diligently trained to keep himself calm at all costs so that he can do his job correctly.

    On Stress
Similar to how he acts when he is afraid, his eyes dart around and he becomes somewhat paranoid. The main difference, however, is his patience. He is a very patient man, but he is only human. Pressing him too far can quickly turn into stern, orderly words.

    On Law and Authorities
Imperial Law is the building block of Unionism and all of Regalia. Without these guiding laws, those without Unionism in their lives would not be able to integrate in their peaceful and orderly civilization.

    On Other Races
Other races are just 'okay'. He's more used to other humans, because that is what he's exposed to on a daily basis. He is, however, much more judgemental of the races and cultures that approve and/or use magic.

    On Faith
Garrick is a faithful Unionist, who hopes to help bring back all humans back under the forgiving and integrating branch of the Spirit, so that they may all add towards the collective and pave the way for paradise. He's pretty dismissive of other religions (bar the Void), viewing them as personal beliefs that all fall under Unionism - the worst thing you can do is tell him that something is superior to his faith.

    On Magic
Wicked. Every time a man taps into the magical powers of dimensions, they risk bringing the world into further turmoil, and enhance the influence of dimensions upon Aloria - worse, the use of Alorian essences, from his perspective, weaken the barriers that keep the evil dimensions at bay.

    On Family
He frequently writes letters to his brother, sister, and venerable father who has never re-married. He does not blame his father for 'abandoning' him, for he understands his father's desperation. Sometimes, he even sends coins and vouchers back towards his family, in hopes to support their lavish Leutzman lifestyles.

    On Pride
Garrick is a relatively humble person, though some topics can elicit pride in him. He expresses this usually through a glowing smile and confidence, but if that pride would be threatened, he would be sure to correct you. Most significantly, if you do not know him, you do not call him by his first name.

    On Motivations
He's motivated by the same reasons for which he joined the Darkwald order as a child, with the words that his father left upon him staying with him all of these decades later. He will make his mother proud, serve for his late squire, and will do all he can to protect the pure from the frightening influences of the world.

    Notable Insecurities
Garrick sometimes thinks back upon his failures, and knows he can only learn from them. Being relentless panned for his mistakes is a quick way to make him feel demotivated. He's also afraid of making friends with somebody he may later discover is an aberrant, and have to abandon or kill a close friend in the name of his duty.

    Notable Fears
Becoming an aberrant himself is always a worry, though he fears two things more than anything: dying on a mission to stop the wicked, and his horrid dreams.
    Hallucinations
Garrick is a silent sufferer of hallucinations of all types. He has gotten really good at distinguishing fiction from reality, but it becomes progressively harder to manage the more stressed he becomes. His faith and relative peace with himself is a driving factor that prevents it from getting too out of hand.

This goes beyond times of lucidity and even plagues his dreams with vivid imagery. He often journals the sightings of his dreams, hoping to one day maybe create an artistic collage of his mind.

    Lonely
At heart, Garrick naturally feels alone and finds it difficult developing a relationship beyond a surface level. He fears not being able to protect somebody, or being forced to leave them behind, and it makes him hesitant to let people get very close to him beyond his warm smile.

◈══ Blurred Visions, Vivid Dreams ══◈
    [IMG]
    Prologue, Tragedy in Hinterkarnte
    • Act 1, Yet Another Babe
      • Garrick was born in the Hinterkarnte town of Siegerberg on September 4th, 277 AC as the third child to the Leutzman Sergeant Wulfgang Tomas Wernher and his Leutz-Ithanian spouse, Theophania Ailaise-Illumin Prairie Coeur Duranné-Wernher. Wulfgang was Theophania's second husband and a close friend of her first, and it comes to great irony and cruelty that the two met during the funeral pyre of her former husband, who had perished from sudden-onset illness. Garrick is welcomed into the world by his three year older brother Dieter Wernher, and his four years elder sister, Louise Wernher.
    • Act 2, Runt of the Litter
      • Being the youngest in the family, he was expected little to no inheritance. His sister was expected to inherit her mother's oil and beauty business, and his brother was the estate heir. Being the babe, however, was not so bad. This left him with a lot more lenience towards how he was able to act, and while his family was both supportive and disciplinary of him finding his own calling in his youth, his siblings were of especial fondness to him. He idolised his brother and sister, in many ways. He tailed his sister's studies, finding himself enraptured by the lessons parted onto her by his mother.
    • Act 3, Death of a Saleswoman
      • Late during an evening, it was reported that a lady by the address of 'Gerhilda' had arrived for a scheduled appointment for the discussion of fragrant tinctures. His mother, however, never returned home that night. She was killed and completely drained of all blood in her body, with deep claw marks cut all over her body, and a roughly deep pair of puncture holes located by the arteries on her neck. After an investigation by region authorities due the superstitious and silent matter of her death, she was confirmed to have been killed by a feral sanguine, and most likely a recently infected one with little control of their body. The representatives reported the news and their findings to the family, once their investigation was concluded.

    • Act 4, Mourn by Morning
      • The Wernher family fell to weary silence, at the lost of the family's maternal guide. Wulfgang was angered and distraught, demanding that the region guard find the culprit of Theophania's murder, not only for the sake of sating his vengeance, but to prevent such a tragedy from happening again. His prayers and demands ultimately went unanswered, and he was left to care for a six, nine, and ten year old on his own. By the end of 284, Wulfgang was in financial danger, and his heart was bitter and unable to mend. He was forced to make a difficult decision, and so he turned to his youngest.
    • Act 5, The Talk
      • Wulfgang knew that he could no longer care for young Garrick, but knew of no one who would be willing to care for his son in his stead. Then he remembered the Knights of Castle Virgadulvlas. He remembered their mission, and a fire lit in his heart. In the dead of the next moonless night, he had brought Garrick to the Tirgunn forest, and told him the truth - he loved him, but he could no longer care for him, but knew the people who could. They were the people that would teach him how he could avenge and protect people like his mother. Brought to tears by the mention of his late mother, Wulfgang gave him son one last hug, handed the boy his hunting knife, and had to force himself to throw the boy out of the carriage. To this day, Garrick will never forget his father's last words at the forest entrance: "Make her proud to have loved you".
    • Act 5, The Walk
      • After a lengthy crying session, Garrick had to steal himself for the walk to come. He took the walk through the dark forest, terrified. Through the corner of each eye, something darted further in the distance, just out of sight. The sounds of the woods were haunting, and made him quicken his own pace as much as he could - to the point where he tripped. The boy stood back up to his feet, and found himself facing a badger. Mistaking it for a cute animal, the boy was ferociously mauled and bitten by the creature, who ripped bits flesh out of his arms and shoulders. Screaming for his life, in a moment of clarity, he remembered the knife his father gave him and stabbed it into the badger's neck, until it ceased its struggle. Disoriented, pained and bleeding out, Garrick continued his walk, only to find himself having gone the wrong way towards the forest entrance. His second walk through the forest was hitchless, but his body finally succumbed to its many wounds. He fainted from blood loss about ten yards from the castle gate, and was quickly ushered inside by the knights on duty for medical attention.
    Chapter 1, Shadow of Potential
    • Act 6, Playing Fetch
      • After being treated, Garrick was simultaneously scolded and praised for his recklessness and bravery, to which was marked as the first steps to becoming a Knight of the castle. Immediately after his recovery marked the beginning of his life as a Page. He did as he was told, followed tasks, polished equipment, cleaned the floors, and began to learn how to cook with the help of the chefs. The castle grounds curate taught him the core first quarter of Unionism during his stay, and the moral codes of the religion helped act as his anchor of hope in the dreary and disciplinary castle grounds. It was all to become a hero, he thought in his young mind. Somebody who could save the good Regalian people, so nobody had to die in the way his mother did.
    • Act 7, Laughter, Sweat, and Tears
      • As he gradually improved on his mannerisms, core values, learned his role in the keep and to keep better control over his fear , he found himself being quite social with his peers, and sometimes disruptively so - much to the dislike and sometimes even punishment by the Knights. One that he found himself strangely entranced by was a Page a year younger than him, the du Brierüst girl. After overhearing and spying on one of her late-night one-woman plays of escapism, he couldn't help but laugh at her ridiculous behaviour. After a little bit of youthful banter and teasing on his part, the duo ended up becoming relatively fast friends. Despite their friendship, Victoria became a bit harder to talk to every year that passed, growing more distant and reserved, and sometimes even leaving him drained of energy after a lengthy discussion.
    • Act 8, Evercreeping
      • As he grew into his Squiredom and began more detailed lessons in faithfulness and aberrancy, he found himself plagued by the burden of thought. In the corners of his eyes he would spot various figures or shapes, only to turn and see nothing there. His dreams were lucid and wild, and he was always able to vividly recall any dream he had the moment he roused. Sometimes they were fantastical self-contained stories, but at other times they were very real nightmares, twisted by his deepest fears. The worst, was then both factors combined, creating a constant realm of uncertainty where even he couldn't enjoy the fantasies of his mind. On a rare occasion, he would awaken shivering or screaming, which made him an annoyance to sleep in the same room with to the other pages and squires.
    • Act 9, Embrace the World
      • Garrick found himself under the wing of a First Sergeant named Ser Gottfried Pendalhard as his direct squire. Gottfried acted as his primary mentor over the years, teaching him on how to deal with aberrants through field experience, helping solve suspiciously laid out cases that hint to Vampirism, and by teaching the young Darkwald what the knight viewed as important convictions to always remember. As a Darkwald, your job is to help preserve the everyman, and the best way to do that is through supporting those that are pure and good in every way you can, while crucifying anything that threatens their peace. To him, Ser Pendalhard was a hero - but Garrick would never tell him that. Gottfried said that there are no heroes in life; only men who choose to do the right thing.
    • Act 10, the Light in the Dark
      • Having proved himself as a highly effective sharpshooter and ablehanded with a sword over the years, Garrick had finally reached his coming of age. In his final mission before his graduation, he and his master had been sent to locate missing persons in a local swampland, said to have been abducted by Werebeasts. The pair had found their quarry, feasting and supping upon the life energy of two chained up men and a teenage woman. With immediate precision, the pair engaged in a fight, resulting in the death of all but one Werebeast, who had fled for its life. Their lantern had been knocked away and extinguished in the swamp water, and their fight left them disoriented and unsure of where the way out of the swamp truly was.

Gottfried picked up one man and the woman, while Garrick carried the last man over his shoulder. In a moment of fervent faithful prayer, a miracle occurred. At the end of Garrick's blade, a quivering light had formed, which grew into a sizeable beacon of light. Though both men questioned it, they vowed to discuss it after the danger had passed. It acted as their replacement for the lantern, and Garrick lead them out of the swamp and back to the trail towards the castle, where the wounded were fed and treated.

After a relatively calm interrogation with his mentor, an elder, and a curate, it was found that Garrick was not in fact an aberrant, but blessed with the sanctity of the spirit through his faith. With his bravery and newly discovered Unionist capabilities, Garrick was deemed to have officially passed his trials as a Squire, and may now proudly bare the title of a Man-at-Arms, and a fully-fledged Knight of the Darkwald Order.
    Chapter 2, Black Winds
    • Act 11, Switching Roles
      • Rather than immediately taking leave like many newly ordained Knights in order to escape the suffocation of the order, Garrick remained on castle grounds and acted only on local missions. The castle was his residence, and his night terrors had long since granted him his own private chambers to not disturb the others around him. Like his mentor before him, he wanted to serve as an example to the new Pages who enter the keep, and to help nurture the next generation to remember why it is they fight so hard for what they do. However, for the most part, Garrick was considered an easy and cheap alternative to a mess chef by the Elders, and was usually tasked with kitchen duties in his off time.
    • Act 12, Waning Ties
      • As he became closer to an exemplar of what a Knight should be (even if a handful of his peers were annoyed by how outwardly friendly he was, deeming it a weak trait), he wound up with less time to himself and his own personal hobbies. By this point, his friendship with Victoria had grown rather distant, as the du Brierüst woman seemed to be overtly avoiding him. He knew that she wasn't enjoying the grimness of the environment, and that her imagination was nothing like what cold, hard reality would have laid out for her. He worried that his dedication to the cause and his attempts to sway her to 'embrace the world' as his mentor had laid unto him had further driven a wedge between the Knight and then-squire.

Overhearing from the bragging of the culprit, Garrick discovered of Victoria's over-frequent writing leading to her assault, and found himself shocked and appalled by the attack upon his distant friend. Garrick himself was permitted one screened letter a year to his family, and saw 'Leo' as nothing short of selfish and filled with envy for his acts. While he attempted to sow reason to the perpetrator, he was met by zealous scorn. Garrick reminded the other Knight that their mission was to rid the world of aberrants who destroy our foundations; trying to kill somebody who could have dedicated their life to that cause is repulsive and heretical.

Garrick tried to rekindle his friendship with Victoria after the incident, but the woman was very behind with her Knightly schedule, deemed too inexperienced in combat to graduate yet, atop of her failing physical condition post-injury. She seemed to push away at his attempts to console or support her. The du Brierüst woman demanded for him to leave her be for good. With a tinge of heartache, he respected his old friend's wishes, and kept their communication to strictly business, up until the time when she finally came to graduate and leave, where he broke his promise to wish her the best upon whichever way the winds take her spirit.
    • Act 13, the Next Generation
      • After his friend's graduation, Garrick started to consider his own future. He opted to stay at the keep, and continue to educate the youth who enlist, to which eventually came to grant him his own squire - a Calemberger orphan by the name of Fritz Kirchplatz. As he trained Fritz in the way of the Darkwald to the guarded youth, Garrick grew attached. Their bond as master and squire seemed to some to be closer to that of father and son. Garrick guided Fritz through the years, and knew that he was going to be able to turn him into a fine example, just as his mentor did for him.
    • Act 14, Much Amiss
      • Fritz was eager to prove himself in his final year of Squiredom during 307. While Garrick did his best to support his student, Fritz was self-assured and confident. Reports came in of a local vampire that was finally spotted in the region, who was presumed to be the cause to many missing-person reports over the years. After a heated disagreement, Fritz demanded to solve this problem now before it got worse, and left the castle against direct orders to search and deal with the vampire himself.

Months had passed, and Fritz was deemed either dead or a deserter. Garrick was haunted by this, knowing that his hesitance to be stern to his student lead to this, and that he should have known this could have happened and been more prepared. Despite the scorn from his superiors, Garrick remained hopeful for Fritz' fate. He always kept the pin he meant to give his student on his person, should he ever cross ways with the young adult again.
    Chapter 3, Open Fields
    • Act 15, the Path Uncleared
      • As time passed after the disappearance of his squire, his hallucinations had grown more active. He did well staving off the visions and distinguishing reality from fiction, but it was tiring upon the weight of his soul. His dreamscape was volatile, with nearly every night resulting in waking in cold sweat to sleep paralysis. Rarely, he instead would dream of divine visions for him - reassurance from the emperors, his missing student, and his mentor whom had since left the castle. Always unsure of what to make of his thoughts, he kept himself focused on purpose.
    • Act 16, Facing the Darkness
      • Rumours started to circulate around about contacts from Saint Belliard purists about a newly developed technology. As a long-time resident of the keep, faithful Unionist, and talented sharpshooter, Garrick was elected as one of the first individuals to test the new technology. His test-runs proved highly successful, and he was found more frequently included in missions that were specifically targeted towards high-priority and dangerous aberrants. He was just glad to be kept busy.
    • Act 17, Elegy
      • Reports of a tomb in the deepest regions of Tirgunn had been circulating the castle grounds, surrounded by swathes of corpses. young and old. Elders of the order had theorised that this was the vile home of the sanguine accused for being the culprit of the many missing person cases over the last few decades. A pair of well-trained knights had been sent there to deal with the alleged vampire, but had never returned. The order prepared to do a full-force hit upon the tomb, and rid of whatever may be inside as to not risk losses again.

Upon reaching the tomb, a garrison of twelve experienced knights were sent to the tomb to eliminate the threat, Among them was Garrick, armed and primed with demishot. Their arrival to the tomb had borne no fruit, but they had confirmed through investigations that something was there not long before their arrival. Among the investigation, was the documenting of missing individuals. Garrick recognised one of the many bodies impaled on spikes - it was that of his former squire Fritz.

Upon returning to the castle, a bitter melancholy befell Garrick, and he cried for the first time in years. The death and hubris of his student would for him, serve as a reminder for the importance of discipline, and his right to intervene for the sake of doing his duty correctly. He made a special order through the smithy, and merged the pins together of himself and the one he planned to give to his Squire, so that he could forever keep Fritz to his heart.
    • Act 18, the Trials Ahead
      • By early 309, Garrick had felt he was ready to move on to his new era in life. Scarred by the loss of Fritz, he couldn't dedicate himself to the squires any longer beyond vague support and care. He signed off on his last reports and paperwork, and began his journey towards the heart of the Regalian Empire - the Crown Isle, where aberrancy had been reported to be at record highs. Perhaps, he might be able to protect them, like he wish he could have his own mother - and his squire.

    • Garrick is born in a Hinterkarnte town in 277 as a third (and youngest) child to Wulfgang Tomas Wernher and his Leutz-Ithanian spouse, Theophania Ailaise-Illumin Prairie Coeur Duranné-Wernher.
    • He learns from his family, and is expected to find his own career path. He shadowed his other family members, until his mother was killed by a presumed vampire attack in her tincture shop.
    • His father cannot financially support him, and takes him to Castle Virgadulvlas. Wulfgang hands him a knife and tells him to make his mother proud.
    • Garrick gets mauled by a badger, turned around, and eventually makes it to the castle and passes out from blood loss.
    • He grows up as a page, and is taught core Unionism tenets. Sometimes he sees things in the corner of his eye. Weird visions, and symptoms of underlying issues. He keeps quiet about it.
    • He's a social kid, and his elders were never really able to discipline that out of him. He did his best to remain relatively positive, but that was more for his own peace of mind than anything else.
    • Becomes a Squire to Ser Gottfried Pendalhard, and his mentor imparts him a more lukewarm and positive take on what it means to be a Knight of Darkwald. Garrick learns that he must support others just as much as he slays monsters; to not think of himself as a hero, but a man simply doing the right thing in the name of the Spirit and humanity. Spends his time learning swordplay, and becomes a great sharpshooter with a crossbow.
    • His final mission before graduation was a search and rescue into a swamp. They killed werebeasts, but in the process their light was destroyed, and it was pitch black. Garrick's Archan blessing became firmly awoken here. Afterwards, he became a fully fledged Knight of Darkwald, and stayed at the castle the master his blessings.
    • Other than local missions, he eventually took in a orphan from Calemburg named Fritz as his squire. He trains him for nearly the boy's full squiredom until his student passionately tries to find and kill a reported vampire on his own, and goes missing.
    • His hallucinations get worse, and he tries to keep himself calmed and busy. He's deemed a good candidate for testing the recently invented Puretek, and is assigned to practice with and use it. Garrick is placed on higher priority and dangerous missions to use the demishot to its fullest capabilities. On one mission, he finds the corpse of his fallen squire. It haunts him still, and he melds their pins together in penance.
    • He knows he cannot stay at the castle any longer, and feels he must follow his heart and help those suffering elsewhere, as he finds himself unable to harden his heart to take on a new squire.
    • Garrick leaves for Regalia.

Hello kind app reviewer. I ended up writing a storm, but I don't want to torture you with a 3k word backstory, so I'm giving you this legend so you know where to selectively read:
    • ★ Golden Stars in the backstory represent the most important lore development for the sake of app approval.
    • ✪ Red Stars in the backstory represent information that isn't integral to the backstory, but just important for you to skim over briefly because it details either something about his core identity, or just lore connections to proficiencies.

Please put a summarized life story outside of a spoiler in the application, please. It should be under 900 words in length. This is approximately 2,700 words in length. It is well written, and while I enjoyed reading it, it isn't doing staff any favors when they have need to look over your application in the future. Just to be clear, I am not asking you to delete it, but rather, add another section of lifestory that is more summarized for ease of reading, and put it outside of spoilers. Mark edits in VIOLET and tag me when finished.

I really, really tried. I even made a post above you to try to snip out as much detail as I humanly could. I was only able to lower it to 1200 words, and it would just not make any sense without the rest of context. Just for you, I'll make a heavily paraphrased backstory.
