His father, Arthane, was the son of the baron of a long-standing line of Breizh lordlings proclaiming a lineage spanning from before the founding of the Empire, however coming to influence and nobility in the years following it's founding. Their originator was recorded to have been a great warrior of the Varallas Garda in the early days of the Empire, leading a mercenary band in the early conflicts between the Skagger Horde and the Wirtemcaller Kingdom, and the first holy wars waged by the Empire itself. The sole child of his father and his foreign wife, a middling aristocrat from Agennes-sur-Livres, he was raised in the solitude of his family's fortress. His father was largely absent due to his entry into seminary soon after the birth of his son, thus leaving him to the care of his mother who coddled him for much of his childhood, later to be blamed for certain habits he would pick up. ✻ Early - Late Adolescence | Growing into his youth, Robard inherited the vim and vigor of his father, large as a boy and often made fun of for being on the heftier side. He was obsessed with the idea of knightly virtue as a child, and looked up to them as true heroes of the Empire. This coincided with the beginnings of martial tutelage dictated by his grandfather, who had intended for him to take up the mercenary tradition of his family where his father had not. He was the black sheep of the household as a result of some less than orthodox tendencies which only further the ire of his grandfather. Under pressure because of that, aged seventeen, Robard ended up following in the same footsteps of his father, holding true to the theme of familial defiance. Leaving to Ithania, he took up board beneath the patronage of his maternal aunt. Not long after which he was sponsored by a cousin in the Order of d'Homme who ensured his entry into into the Château Suvlière de Prixois, where he would realize that childhood yearning to walk in the steps of the famed knights of yore. After moving beyond the initial culture shock, he quickly found himself at home among the order and excelled throughout his training. ✻ Early - Late Adulthood | Robard would complete his knightly tutelage early into the year 297, earning his spurs, however green by all standards and with a lack of experience altogether. Choosing to remain in Ithania, he swore his sword to a local countess and served for better half of the following decade. He earned some renown for himself in local jousting lists where he remained undefeated on horseback, and earned the nickname 'de l'Ours' among his fellow knights, namely for his sometimes ornery temperament, imposing build and impressive height which had him standing near a head over his largely Ithanian brethren. In the winter of the year 305, however, his liege lady took ill and died. He chose not to renew his oaths to her daughter, and instead returned home to distant Kintyr. He was not met with a warm welcome that would have been befitting of a noble heir, and instead with the scorn of his father. Nevertheless, he subjected himself to the ridicule and ire of his father in serving him to uphold his knightly vows and did so until the family's titles and holdings fell into the hands of his aunt. Coming to the Regalian capital at the behest of his father wishing for him to reconnect with his extended family-by-law through his cousin's marriage, he subsequently entered the service of the Duke of the Veer as his Palest, an alternative to the destitution wrought upon his family by less capable kin.
