With the upcoming 1.16.4 update of the server, we will soon have access to exciting new nether-related blocks and other goodies. Also, soon, we will be coming up on the 10 year anniversary of the opening of MassiveCraft.
What better way to celebrate these things, than to create an homage to the past - A return to Ceardia, one of the great old worlds of early MassiveCraft.
What was Ceardia?:
Ceardia was the third survival world on MassiveCraft (preceeded by Aloria and Binral). It was the last world to use vanilla Minecraft seed-generation. It was later replaced by Daendroc and Ellador, which were the first worlds to use custom world generation.
Ceardia had two major cities: Silveredge and Lukkerdam.
Silveredge:
Silveredge was the main city in Ceardia, as well as a major hub for commerce, factions, and roleplay. It's power and position was surpassed only by Regalia. The city was built where a river (the Silver river) emptied into the sea. The city was split into 6 districts: the Central District, the Golden District, Downtown, the Docks, the Farmlands, and the Outskirts.
The Central District was the heart of the city, housing city hall, and an info center. Only very influential and wealthy people were able to acquire land in the Central District.
Downtown was a more mixed area, and served as the home for artisans and workers of all types. This was also the home of the Silveredge Bank.
The Golden District served as a noble district, and also contained the Silveredge Keep.
True to their name, the Docks were the center of maritime trade in Silveredge. Featuring extensive docks and shipbuilding facilities, this district was also filled with warehouses and housing for sailors and dockworkers.
The Farmlands were situated on the north-west edge of town, and served as the primary food source for the city.
Outside the city was the area known as the Outskirts. This area was filled by seedy ne'er-do-wells, and criminals. It also housed the city cemetery, in which the dead wife of the mayor, Ninjabaver, was said to be buried.
Players could claim land for their factions in Silveredge. Most factions used these as shops and embassies. Silveredge was destroyed by the tendrils and then was later rendered inaccessible with the deletion of Ceardia.
Lukkerdam:
Lukkerdam was a faction and city led by Luukwullink, who was an admin at the time. It appears to have served as a trading hub, and was also known for building ships. On or nearly before May 30, 2012, Luuk had his staff removed for reasons not immediately known. (See here.) As a result, Lukkerdam was disbanded, and the land denied to other factions (as the city was built in creative.) It was later used as the site for a number of events centered around the character "MrsBaver" who unleashed the "tendrils" on Ceardia that later destroyed it. This was later changed to have been the doing of the void.
Not much remains on what Lukkerdam was, and the photo linked is the only one I could find.
What Happened to Ceardia?:

As a result of the aforementioned MrsBaver events, and the need to delete Ceardia to make room for Regalia, Ellador, and Daendroc, there was a gradual destruction of the various cities and towns in Ceardia. This progress is documented in the "Daily Creeper" releases at that time.
Revisiting Ceardia:
With Ceardia becoming accessible against to Regalia, and restoration efforts being underway for many years, it can be surmised that a good deal of Ceardia has been cleared of void growth. As such, it's likely that some, if not most, of the coastal areas have likely been cleared of this Void Growth, including the ruins of Silveredge and remains of Lukkerdam.
Silveredge was a major port along a major river (the Silver river) and would make a smart place to clear void growth and set up a permanent, albeit small, settlement. Think a small village with a docks, surrounded by tall and dense ruins and shipwrecks. Silveredge's sewer, long known to have been filled with monsters, have become a dense, twisted refuge of void growth and fauna, hard to clear due to their deterioration and labyrinthine design.
Lukkerdam is completely destroyed, with only the smallest traces of it's existence remaining.
The Rionnag Plains are starting to be cleared of void growth themselves. The cleared lands are covered in mostly new growth, not unlike that which comes after a bad wildfire. Scattered across the plains are small, intermittent ruins.
The center of the island, particularly the mountains and forests, are still densely covered with corrupted void growth and inhabited by vile void monsters.
The void forests are made mostly of darker "regular" wood e.g. spruce and dark oak, and nether wood and materials. They are a dense, twisted forest, with dangerous flora everywhere (e.g. wither roses). Occasionally, throughout the forests, remnants of the dark tendrils that initiated the destruction remain, snaking across the land. The mountains are also covered in these void trees, and are thoroughly savaged by the tendrils, and otherwise corrupted.
Rebuilding Ceardia:
Ceardia will have a number of niche environments not well suited for a full survival world. Considering this, and the historical nature of the world, it would be best to manage Ceardia as a quest world. The world would be redesigned from the ground up, loosely inspired by the original world. The ruins of Silveredge would be laid out similar to (if not larger than) the original Silveredge - the docks, the keep, the central square with statue - it'll all be there, albeit utterly devastated.
The spawn town will be the aforementioned village in Silveredge. There'll be quests to do all manner of things taking you all over the map, ranging from killing troublesome monsters in the forests (new mobs, such as the mentioned Elds, Canters, and Flasmann) and Silveredge sewers, to helping build new settlements further outside Silveredge.
This could be a progressive quest world, where, as enough people complete the various quests, which could be daily, the settlements are "rebuilt" (not unlike how the spawn worlds in Essalonia/Essa were/plan to be upgraded over time). Ceardia would be a developing project, and we would be rebuilding Ceardia in "real time", with progress being actually visible.
This will make this quest world significantly more engaging than Silverwind has been - it's not a one and done world, where most of the world is left unused.
This should be tied with RP events and quest lines! Have Regalia send archaeology expeditions to Ceardia. It's mentioned on the wiki that Ceardia had some fairly extensive Seraph ruins, thought to possibly have been destroyed, hidden in the mountains. On top of that, Ceardia is the historical homeland of the Ailor race - it only makes sense they'd want to continue studying their history, and the origins of their race.
Have survival-geared events, where mercenary bands go to Ceardia to help clear monsters, defend towns, etc...
With all that rebuilding would entail, the content you can create with this is virtually endless.
We could turn an abandoned continent, arguably one of the historically most important, consigned to memories and the wiki, into an actual living, breathing part of MassiveCraft, engaging for both communities. What better way to honor the history of the server, and also create new content?

What was Ceardia?:

Ceardia was the murderous, bloody cradle of the Ailor for centuries. After its discovery by the Allorn Empire, the continent and its population endured centuries of raids and abductions back to Daen, which is one of the factors that spread the Ailor across Aloria. The continent of Ceardia itself was diverse, covered in a variety of terrains supporting a variety of different lifestyles. Unfortunately, the continent was lost to the world by the Destruction of Ceardia, a cataclysmic event that saw giant Tendrils erupt up from the earth and gradually engulf the entire continent. Today, the Regalian Empire operates from a series of offshore islands to support their efforts in cutting back the corruption that has plagued the region and the homeland of Ailorkind. They hope that if they do so, their advances in scholarship and the sciences will give them far more knowledge about the past than the war-torn Ceardians were ever able to make.

Silveredge:

Silveredge was once said to be the jewel of Ceardia and could be found in the northeast of the continent on the Hlys Penninsula. The settlement was founded by a clan ravaged by Allorn Empire slavers soon after the Empire turned away from the island. Venturing forth from their original forest dwelling, the clan discovered Silver River and so settled at its mouth. Silveredge grew to a key point of trade and, soon, a hotly contested region between the various nearby warlords. Despite this competition, many bridges and local statutes remained intact, providing a beautifully aged appearance to the city's water infrastructure. When Regalia arrived, they practically took over the city from the clan with many of them immediately moving to the Regalian Archipelago. The city became the Empire's main focus point on the continent as they worked to unsuccessful broken peace talks between several of the warring kingdoms. It eventually served as one of the main evacuation points as the Tendrils grew across the mainland and now lies abandoned like all population centers.

Lukkerdam:
While Lukkerdam has unclear origins, it can easily be considered an enriched region. It was founded on the shores of the Abhainn Mór River, a large, strong body of water with a reliable current found near the center of the continent. Despite the wars fought in the region over the decades of the settlements existence, the only casualty was the fortress that once gave the region its name. Founded by a family who was said to vanish one night and never return, many other warlords eagerly took over the structure and ignored the ghost stories. It was ultimately destroyed in 189 AC by two warring parties, leaving the fortress in ruins. By 250 AC, the wider town had developed into a thriving market center, but it was also one of the first to be hit by the Tendrils. Rumors persist from survivors of the event that the first Tendrils to emerge came from Lukkerdam and that in the days leading up to the event, lights had been seen inside of the fortress.

What Happened to Ceardia?:
With a massive shaking of the ground, great and hideous black Tendrils exploded from the ground near the center of the continent. They arched high into the sky before they slowly started to arc their bodies, laying flat, then began to slither outward and grow in size. Everywhere they went, Void Essence poured, warping the sky, plants, animals, and all it touched and darkening the sky as a Void Storm gripped the continent and only grew in size. The Tendrils appeared somewhat like plant vines, but they were also clearly alive, made of a substance like flesh that bled purple ooze whenever damage was done to them. However, their thick layer of black skin largely prevented this, and so they spread for weeks, eventually stopping short of the coastline across the whole of Ceardia.
Pure chaos gripped Ceardia in the hours following the emergence of the Tendrils. They were so tall when they had burst from the earth that people from across nearly the entire continent had been able to see them, and especially as they gradually wilted downward. The central areas of Ceardia were quick to flee, with thousands heading for the coastline. When the scope of the Tendrils became known to the various petty kingdoms of Ceardia, their conflicts came to an end. The simple states that formed the kingdoms couldn't stand up to the desperate will of the people to live, and several of the monarchs died trying to selfishly escape through private means. Instead, a call went out across the sea, messengers reaching out to every nearby friendly landmass for assistance. In the Regalian Empire, even though the Regalian Pessimism was gripping the nation, the state still acted with extreme speed. All southern flotillas of the Regalian Navy were immediately diverted to helping in the evacuation effort, while commercial and personal vessels from several nearby Ailor nations such as the Kingdom of Yervonth and the Kingdom of Arlora also streamed toward the continent. As the summer wore on, more and more people were safe, even as the chaos in the port cities resulted in riots and deaths as the Tendrils continued their growth, slowly seeking out the edges of the continent. Though as September came to Aloria, the last of the rescue vessels left Ceardia, leaving behind barren and empty ports to crumble soon after their departure. The ancient homeland of Ailorkind was now lost to a threat unforeseen by any.

Revisiting Ceardia:
The death of the Archdemon's physical form in Aloria in 302 AC weakened if not dispelled Void Storms across the world. The massive purple and black nightmare vortex above Ceardia vanished as a result, and in the wake of this, the Regalian Empire has started to slowly peel back the layers of corrupted nature. Aided by brave Velheim, returning Ceardians and with an outpost on nearby Zemlith, these efforts have continued quietly for years, and while permanent colonists have not yet been called to brave the hostile land, the men and women involved in the project have made excellent progress. It may be that, within a few decades, Ceardia will be habitable again, and this grand Destruction can be reversed, though the deep interior of the continent is still hostile and filled with vile dangers.

The Reclamation Project had documented a number of exotic and mutant creatures lurking in the darkness of the corrupted forests that now litter Ceardia. Most have compared the creatures to the sorts of horrors that exist on distant Drowda, another land saturated with magical energies. Some of the most notable creatures seen include Elds, a form of monstrous mutant deer; Canters, a species of dark mutant songbird; and Flasmann, a hideous horse-like creature with a humanoid cry.
