Ever since the new model government came into being, there was a strange dichotomy between IC made positions, for example the Mark Generals and the Mark Admirals, and the Permission assigned positions such as Field Marshals and Grand Generals. This was strange because somehow despite not actually commanding an army (or including the risk with that) these artificially Character App made leaders could outrank people who actually held a rank that did something.

What has essentially changed now is that all "solid" government positions have been scrubbed from the permission registry system. This means that:
  • All people who previously had such a registry permission should default to their Intellect School. For example, if you were a Marshal, you needed Expert skill in Field Command. This is the overruling Intellect Expert Skill.
  • Those that previously had their government positions are not suddenly without skill. They still have their schooling, but they will be considered "Off Commission", meaning they are in temporary retirement until they are re-hired.
  • To be re-hired, simply get hired by the Undercrown as General or Admiral. Only those who have an active "On Commission" assigned by the Undercrown are considered such military leaders without the need for a special permission registry, to keep things entirely IC.
For players who previously had such a permission, ensure your Expert Intellect Skill is registered as a perm in case you had one. Also ensure to moderate your job usage in Roleplay:
  • Only claim to be an Army or Naval Leader if you are hired by the Undercrown on active duty.
  • Only claim to be a Battlefield Commander if an Army or Naval Leader has assigned you to their Mark.
  • Off Commission Leaders have no authority or claim to prestige in Roleplay. They are in quasi retirement.
  • On Commission Leaders can only claim authority and prestige if they are recorded on the Regalian Government Page.

  • Off Commission Leaders have no authority or claim to prestige in Roleplay. They are in quasi retirement.

So, for Officers veteran's like my own character (a field officer and veteran of the Elven War) does this mean I have to void the fact that he was an officer in the war, or do I just say he's a retired officer?

Claiming to be a commander in previous IC wars is always a bit sketchy since we've always maintained that IC claims to honor are based on participation, a benefit of having been on the server "at that time". It's fine to claim command during history wars like the Chrysant War, but if people who join late claim to have been a commander in wars that were fought within the player period of history, then it devalues the value of people who /were/ there. At most, you could claim to have been a soldier.

Aside from that, no history is voided. Your character could have been a commander in the Chrysant War and any war before 301 AC.
